My mother has a space in her cabinet that she wants to place a Flat Screen TV in and the measurements are 27"L x 18.5"W x 4"D. What's the maximum sized TV that can be placed in there?

Thanks in advanced! +reps to be handed out accordingly. :)

If it's LED == Ultra thin

I would guess about a 30"

18.5^2+27^2=SQUAREROOT(1071.25)=32.7299"

Depends on size of border, TVs are measure Diagonally, hence Pythagorean therom

I hope your L is <-----> and your W is ^

Just to clarify, the space is 27 inches from side to side and 18.5 inches from top to bottom.

Edit: It's probably best to just say 26 inches from side to side and 17 inches from top to bottom. I forgot about these arm things that get in the way.

Why would you even need to ask that question? Pretty much all the websites that sell TV's will have a specifications section that will give you with Height, Width, and Depth. So you can easily look this information up. Just hit up something like BestBuys site, and start looking for TV's that will fit within your Width, and then out of those find the ones that will fit within your height.. etc etc. This information also varies between different makes and models so there is not a single answer.

That said.. from the dimensions that you stated.. it appears that you should look in the 26" diagonal range. Also with 4" of depth.. you will need to get some sort of wall mount since most bases are going to be around 10" to 12" of depth.

Good luck in your search.

when they sell tv's they give all the measurements on the whole thing, stand, and frame etc.

this will fit, but leave space around.

That's a good point actually. lol I didn't even think about that. Sort of a "duh" moment on my part.

Also, I've noticed that the diagonal measurement they give you tends to be almost exactly the same as the width of the whole TV, with frame.

*Edit: That's with my TVs at least, I know it's not like that for monitors at least.
