It's either hairless do to a genetic mutation, or it's evolved into the manifestation of "things that go bump in the night" combined with the nightmares from children. lol
It's pretty cool though. It definitely gives you a whole new perspective on what a Bear actually looks like and how they're built and what-not. Just think, all bears look as scary as this guy does. We have creatures of nightmares in our own backyard and we didn't even know it. I mean really, that IS one scary ass looking animal. Who would have thought that fur could change the way something looks by so much.
This guy is great material for some horror/fantasy flicks!

No...no...I think the hairless bear has the bearsharktopus beat. I mean, have you ever seen a bearsharktopus try to run? It's just laughable :P
Seriously though; that hairless bear is pretty freaky. Who would have thought a bit of hair would make such a big difference...

I swear I have a cousin who looks just like that when he wakes up in the morning...

I still think seeing Bearsharktopus would freak me out way more. And if it came down to a face to face encounter/fight, Bearsharktopus would be WAY more dangerous.
That's just me though.. that weird naked bear looks like an elephant body with claws, and the head of a camel crossed with a poodle. Freaky in a completely (but less scary than Bearsharktopus) way.
