I am tired of signing into 5 different webmail accounts daily. I have all of them set up in outlook but I have never gotten outlook to work right 100% of the time. So what would the advantages of Gmail be for me?

Gmail is web based, so you can check it from anywhere.

POP and IMAP support so you can have it download to your Outlook, or have it sync to multiple computers with different clients (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc).

I think you get 5gb of storage as well, so that you could use it to archive documents and such for retrieval from different places (contract forms, model releases, etc). You can also use it for a contacts list.

Oh, and it's free. Oh, and they also have a pretty good spam filter/junk mail system in place.

Overall, it's a pretty nice solution.

Why not get all your accounts forwarded to one?

i have 3 or 4 email accounts forwarded to my hotmail one. keeps everything nice and tidy. gmail works pretty good, but hotmail seems to be a little easier to use IMO. gmail has bigger (i think, maybe not anymore) inbox space though.

Space, ability to automatically pull stuff from other email accounts (idk how many other services do this, I've been using Gmail pretty exclusively for about 5 years now), awesome spam filter, online integration with AIM. If it's communicating with multiple accounts that outlook is having troubles with, you could have everything forwarded to your gmail (or other) account, and just have outlook pull that one account. Or switch to thunderbird :P (disclaimer: I use neither outlook nor thunderbird. I use exclusively web interaces for all my email accounts.)

My inbox is at 7389MB atm :D

My personal / business email has a 40gb quota :D lol. I have the largest TBCS inbox quota of all the staff @ 128mb. and my other inboxes have small quotas line 25mb each. I am looking into GMail now.

The only real thing I hate about gmail/hotmail/yahoomail is the stupid advertisement they attach to everyone of your outgoing emails.

They should be paying you to use their email service so they can advertise to your recipients...

Gmail doesn't add advertisements to your outgoing emails. If yours is doing that, then something's wrong.

Hmm, I don't have a gmail account, but every email I get from someone with a gmail account has a Gmail advert at the bottom. (could be changed since none of my friends use gmail anymore) Granted it is innocuous, but annoying at the same time.

yes I know it is minor. I also think that when you buy clothes with the companies name on it, you should get a discount, not be charged more. After all you are a walking billboard paying to advertise their product for them.

BTW: If I were to use one of the free email accounts, Gmail would be the one. I do have a yahoo account and a hotmail account (setup the day after they opened for service) but have not checked either for several years. I only keep the yahoo one for the messenger login (using Trillian though).

Hmm, that's odd. Make sure that's not something your friends added, because I just tested with three gmail accounts, one about 6.5 years old, one about 3.5 years old, and one about 3 months old, and none of them did that. I also can't find anything in the account settings anywhere to allow that. Unless it was something that they did for a while, and gave up on, but I don't remember ever seeing that.

what do you have in there? i've thought about storing files in there but it would take way to long to upload and download.

The big deal with Gmail is the fact that they scan every email you get and then post relevant ads in the right sidebar. Conspiracy theorists still have a heyday with that.

I've had Gmail since it was in Beta, and have never had ads attached to the bottoms of my emails. Sure it wasn't a sig? Or using some other email client, or maybe even using the address with a different service?

Meh, they say it's completely automated, and I just tune them out now... (both the ads and the conspiracy theorists :P )
