Hello fellow musicians of TBCS.

Post what you play, specs, etc, pics even if you want. I wanna know what other musicians are here.

I'm a bassist and I have two instruments...

The Destroyer of Worlds:
Squier Precision Bass II. Back when Squier was still pretty good quality. It's a Standard model, purchased in '82 by my dad. It's black with a white pickguard and rosewood fretboard, and is all stock except for custom knobs. It's getting a complete electronic overhaul soon, I plan on getting Seymour Duncan Basslines-3 pickups for it soon as well as new pots (250k ohm audio taper, duh) and soldering everything up before the weekend. Four-string of course.

Captain Quint:
Ibanez Acoustic-Electric four string. I don't know a whole lot about it other than I got it for $160 and it's a $400 bass. Consignment rules. The guys at the music shop told me I scored pretty hard. It was on the display for three hours before I bought it.

Pics forthcoming

also, all of it's piped through my mom's old Fender BXR25 practice amp. =/

I currently only make stuff on the computer, and I whistle. I am going to start guitar lessons shortly and am going to start piano later on, too.

We had a very similar thread about a year ago...I remember SgtM being asked how many of the instruments he could play at once. (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14377)

EDIT: ok, so it wasn't quite a year ago--last April.

I play precussion stuff at school. Maybe I can get a pic of everything later. At home, all that I currently have is 2 bell kits and a practice pad:(.

All brass instruments (Trumpet, Baritone, Euphonium, Trombone, French Horn, Tuba)
Percussion
Guitar

I play Rockband. :D

I havent tried this yet, but apparently the rockband drum kit can be used with Garageband on the Mac quite easily.. as soon as I get some time to try it...

Also, guitar, bass, some (minimal) keyboards and percussion.

Guitar 1: Ibanez Iceman ICX220, black
Guitar 2: Fender F-65 Acoustic, 1975
Bass: Fender Precision Bass, mid 80's?
Keyboard: some Casio thing.. midi outs plus a pretty decent percussion set

I also have an Alesis HR16 drum machine, assorted mics and such, and little 15watt epiphone practice amp that I play through.

My roomate has goldtop Les Paul reissue, and a Marshall S80 Valvestate amp. niiiiiiiiiiiice

TIP FOR HOME RECORDING OF GUITARS:

Use a cabinet emulator/simulator. Most home recordings I hear are harsh and tinny/buzzy. Use the cabinet simulator option if you have it! It'll add a fat, rich fullness to the sound and knock out that harsh buzziness of a DI.

Percussionist here.

I play just about any percussion instrument I can get my hands on. When friends and relatives go traveling, I only ask for a simple percussion instrument from the country they visit. I have started quite collection of noise makers!

I currently play:
LP Congas
Small bongos
Hand Drums (One from Africa, one from Costa Rica, One from Australia)
Simple Yamaha Keyboard
Yamaha Digital Drum pads
One of my favorite hand drums (from Africa if I remember right) has a string attached to the drum head and the other end is attached to a tunable peg which is attached to flexible wooden slats. When playing the drum, you can squeeze the slats together to change the sound of the drum. Unfortunately the string is broken from the drum head because I play the hell out of it.

I play guitar. I have...

Paul Reed Smith SE Singlecut (Black)
Dean 79 Flying V (Sunburst)
Line 6 Spider III 120W Amp

In the future, possibly an Ibanez S Prestige. Who knows.

Songs I have been playing...

Crazy Train
Bark at the Moon (started a couple weeks ago)
Peruvian Skies
Random others.

Got my new pickups today. Seymour Duncan SPB-2 Hot Basslines. Tomorrow I'm getting the pots and cap, as well as audio jack and wires. Can't wait.

the new pickups

The old ones.

The magnets on the new ones are a little larger, definately denser, the coils are better on the new ones and they're not rusting. Now just to get a .05 microfarad cap and some 250k ohm pots and we'll be set.

Guitar player who's much better at fixing them than playing.

Here we go, lots of stuff, each links to a picture
1965ish Harmony Rocket III (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/65rocket0908.jpg) - need to get a repro pickguard but otherwise original and very good condition
1985 Japanese Squier "Contemporary" Stratocaster (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/85japanstrat0908.jpg) - Bought a neck, found the right body, threw in some spare humbuckers and made my own mounting rings. Now I need to finish wiring. It also had an aftermarket bridge at one point, but has had an original Japan Fender put back on
1986 Japanese Squier Stratocaster (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/86japanstrat0908.jpg) - Mint, mint, mint. Was owned by someone that played casinos in Vegas. I bought it from a pawn shop, still has the previous owners backstage pass in the case.
1987 Japanese Squier Stratocaster (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/87japanstrat0908.jpg) - "50's" style, was modded with a Kahler bridge and locking nut when I bought it. Put a vintage bridge back on, sold the bridge on ebay for more than I paid for the guitar.
~2000 Chinese Squier Affinity Strat (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/chinastrat0908.jpg) - Ongoing project, needs electronics. Actually plays very well and the "Rosewood" fretboard looks just like Pao Ferro.
~2000 Chinese Squier Affinity Tele (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/chinatele0908.jpg) - Another one with the orangey streaked Rosweood neck. Bought on a lark, then I played it and was amazed. It's beat to hell and had the cheap chinese electronics replaced with Seymour Duncan Broadcaster pickups.
Frankenstrat (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/frankenstrat0908.jpg) - Mexican neck and body, japanese electronics. Sounds great, plays good but not great. It's my "loaner" when people are over and want to play. Having something spilled on it would only make it look better.
1965 Harmony Bobkat (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/harbobkat0908.jpg) - Work in progress, making a new pickguard to hold NOS Harmony Electronics. Original pickups sound like a cross between a Fender Jaguar and a Telecaster, great for surf and garage rock.
1985ish Japanese Squier Katana (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/katana0908.jpg) - So ugly I had to have one. All of the "charm" of a Flying V, but with a shape that makes it even harder to play.
Mexican Fender Standard Jazz Bass (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/mexijazz0908.jpg) - Newer addition, I started playing bass but it's been over 10 years since I last owned one. This one came cheap, and best of all wasn't black. I have too many black guitars.
Stella (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/nylonstella0908.jpg), STELLA (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/steelstella0908.jpg), STELLAAAA!!! (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/stellaone0908.jpg) - Old Harmony Stella acoustics, one nylon, one steel, one with electric strings that used to have a tele pickup mounted at the end of the neck. Used to be great values on ebay, now people have realized they're something special. I used to have NINE of these, parted the bad ones out and gave three others to friends as presents.
Squier Esprit (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/squieresprit0908.jpg) - Squier Master Series, basically a copy of the old Fender Flame/Esprit. Got it on closeout from Overstock.com for $200. A bit wider than a Les Paul, but lighter since it has a chambered body.
Squier Mini Strat (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/squiermini0908.jpg) - Bought for a niece, then realized she had no intention of actually learning to play so kept it for myself. Not bad little guitars, but the electronics are meh at best and they really need a good setup.
Silvertone Bobkat (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/stonebobkat0908.jpg) - Another project with the Harmony version above. Original bridge and tuners replaced, but will be getting original style electronics.
Squier Telecaster Custom (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/telecustom0908.jpg) - Good alternative to a Les Paul, but I wish I had bought the P90 version instead of humbuckers. Eh, one of these days I'll have to buy another.
Line 6 Variax 300 (http://www.widefault.com/guitars/Variax0908.jpg) - "Modeling" guitar, and does a pretty decent job through a solid state amp or straight into the PC. Models are all pretty good, but it becomes pretty obvious the biggest difference between different guitar tones is in your playing style.

Amps, no god pics taken of these right now.
1965 Fender Bandmaster in a 2x10" combo cabinet - Tooobs!!!
1970 Fender Bassman head - needs complete rebuilding
1993ish Fender SKX-15R solid state keyboard amp - Red Knob age, makes a very good "clean" amp for acoustic
2007 Fender Vibrochamp XD - tube power amp with a digital modeling preamp, highly recommend these for practice amps. The blackface Fender amp models are about as close as you can get without having a real one.
Fender mini-Tonemaster - 2x1" speakers, not bad as a headphone amp
Amp-U-Plug-n-Play - plugs direct into the jack, no volume or tone controls. It was cheap, about all I can say.

Effects and Miscellaneous
Boss CE-2 Chorus
Boss DS-1 Distortion
Boss PH-1r Phaser
Danelectro French Toast Fuzz Octave
Russian EH Big Muff Pi
Arion Tubulator - $5 and just a terrible ugly sound, I love it
Line 6 Guitar port, makes for a decent recording interface and the Variax sounds great when paired with it

Yeah, with all that stuff I should really play much better than I do.

I got my own band now; "The Sires" (Check us out on Facebook). In the group I play bass and sing back up vocals.

With the help of two of my friends and my dad, I learned how to play bass. I've been playing for half a year now.

At home I use my Dad's Kalamazoo (With new strings, pickups and tuners) from 1970 something. When at band practice I switch off between a newer Squire Precision bass and some Yamaha bass.

I remember this old post (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16256)

Didn't make it past 2 pages with only a few responses. With a bunch of new members around, I thought it would be time to find out: What instruments do you play?

I personally play (currently) Tenor Saxophone (I can play any of them).

Feel free to post pics and have fun!

Also, if you can't figure out what I play, you need to Learn2Read. :P

I play electric guitar. My dad went "el kabong" with mine so I haven't played in a couple months. Getting it back soon though, hooray local music stores with guitar repair.

My French Horn is a Conn 8D double horn in F and Bb, and is soooooooooo nice. My trumpet is a pocket trumpet by Jupiter. I'm actually looking to sell both of them and maybe get a Lawler flugel and trumpet.

I play piano, mostly classical, but with occasional ragtime thrown in. If any of you haven't heard of it, check out IMSLP.org, they're an incredible source of free public domain sheet music. Scan quality does vary though.
I have access to a comb binder at work, and after buying a Samsung laser printer that can duplex, and buying bottles of toner and refilling the cartridge myself...I'm the proud owner of 35,000 printed pages of piano music. :P Total cost (aside from a LOT of time) was about $1,000. :D totally worth it though.

oh yeah, I can also sing. usually baritone/bass.

You want to SELL an 8D?

Are you insane?

My baby was a custom Yamaha 867, but it was stolen along with my car the day after I got married. I'm considering building my own now.

d_stilgar
11-13-2009, 01:37 AM
If you build a French horn make sure to post a worklog here. I would love to see that. I really don't play anymore, and I'm into jazz and well . . . French horn isn't a jazz instrument. This is why I want to sell. Plus, if I'm going to get a couple new horns I need to sell my current ones.

Kayin
11-13-2009, 07:27 AM
You could buy a few horns on that 8D alone...

d_stilgar

Used prices seem to be around 1500-2000, so I could get a Lawler and a half. I'm looking for $1700.

What vintage, if it's older it'll easily fetch 5+.

If I had the money it'd be off your hands in a second, even though I played a MUCH different style horn. Pre-changeover horns (the true Elkharts) are worth their weight in gold.

(Yes, I'm a student of horn history too. You guys saw the one I'm restoring, right?)

I got mine in . . . 2003 I believe. Either then or 2004. I got it new from a local shop.
