I am sitting here at work thinking about my military service and what it means to me. I was never involved in any "official" wars, but have been shot at (still have the scar where I was grazed). I have lost friends that were killed when our then allies, the Iraqi's, "accidentally" shot a missile at one of our Frigates in the Persian Gulf on May 17th 1987. It was the USS Stark. I went to school with 2 of the men killed on the Stark (military training school). Their names are EW3 Charles T. Moller and EW3 Joseph P. Watson. RIP my friends and peace to your family.

Without my military service I feel I would be sitting somewhere between jail and the street. It was a dramatic change to my life and an experience that has shaped who I am and opened up many opportunities. I have my current job mainly because I am ex Navy. The GM of our company at the time I was hired, was a retired Marine by the name of Otto Lehrack who has written a couple of books on his time with the Marines. I had just interviewed with my now manager and several of the sales guys and was sitting outside of the conference room while Otto and several of the employees discussed my potential hiring. The last words I remember Otto saying was: "He knows his SGI stuff and is ex Navy! What more do you need to know?"
They hired me on the spot.
BTW: Yes I am at WORK! I am a veteran and have NEVER had Veterans day off.
My thoughts are with the servicemen and their families today. No matter what branch, we are all the same. We serve in the military to strengthen the freedoms of our families and neighbors.
Salute my brothers and sisters... You are not forgotten.
