Was playing GTA IV and the game froze, and I had to do a hard power down by holding the button. When I went to boot it back up it just hung with the sys fan and the card fan on high, so I powered down and tried again. same thing. I took the card out and pluged into the onboard and it booted fine, put the card back in and same thing, fans on high no monitor activity. So I put in an old 7300gs to check the PCIE slot and its fine. So its the card. Luckly this card has a lifetime warranty on it so hopefully I can get it RMA.
Maybe this is a sign from god to go Dual GTX295's....:D......Just need everyone to chip in $30 a piece and I will have them by christmas.:p

I just turned on my PC again and its working now. I am thinking it was an over heating issue and it shut it down until it cooled back off. I am going to turn the fan speed up from the stock idle settings and see if it happens again.

I have played through hGTA4 twice and never had any problems with it. Not sure what is broke since I have great performance too. I am running a 8800gts 640. I was running 2 of the in SLI, but took pity on my friend and sold him one of them. I actually had more issues with SLI than not so it was no loss.

How much capacity does your PSU in you computer have?
But it does sound like the card has bitten the dust.

He said it seemed to be working again and thought it was just a heat issue.

Glad to hear it was just heat after all - I'll be subjecting my new (gently used) pair of 8800GT/512s to GTA4 before long... still peeved about that SecuROM crap, but I'll probably (work around) that after I buy the game, if possible.
Suppose I should hang a 120mm over 'em just to be safe. My Foxconn only has one slot in between, so the top card gets a bit warm, even in the 1200.

I am running a Thermaltake Evo-Blue 750 Watt which should be 80 plus certified but its not. Its more power than my rig will ever need.
I bumped the fan speed up from the stock 30% to 90% when gaming using Riva Tuner. Logged several hours with GTA IV on max and it has yet to hickup.

GTA IV is a lot more CPU intensive than most other games, I'm betting that it's heat wash from the CPU fan interfering with the card's cooling.

Here is a diagram of my case airflow for those who are interested. Key is below the photo.
http://thebestcasescenario.com/oneslowz28/personal/cablemanagement/airflowdiag.jpg
200mm front intake fan in the front of the case
200mm exhaust fan on top of case
120mm intake on bottom of case directly under vid card intake
140mm exhaust fan via PSU
120mm exhaust fan directly behind CPU cooler
120mm intake fan on CPU cooler
Air flows in from front bay mesh
Air flows in from front bay mesh
Not pictured: Whole side window is made from mesh.
Conclusion there is no lack of air flow in this case. I can turn all the fans on high and you can feel it pulling air into all the mesh areas and feel the exhaust in all the exhausting areas.
