I just bought a mobo for my brother in-law for christmas. Nothing special just an cheap $40 AM2+ AM3 board. Well I wanted 2 packs of those black thumb screws and added them to my cart. The shipping on the motherboard was free. The shipping on the 2 packs of $1.50 thumbscrews was $13.90... I love new eggs prices but hate their shipping fees on small stuff.

Last year I ordered 4 fans, a molex-sata adapter and a 18" sata cable and the product total was like $14 and the shipping was $18. I bought it because I needed it and could write it off but their shipping on small stuff is ridiculous.

When I bought the components for Biohazard shipping was not but $15 and that was because of the apevia case. They charged me $15 to ship a 21lb case and wanted to charge me $14 to ship 4oz worth of thumb screws.

Not unusual unfortunately. I use ebuyer.co.uk for most of my supplies over here in the UK and often piggyback parts I want for myself onto orders I place for customers to save on shipping (or postage) - it's often down to profit on the item and single cost shipping - they may well be able to ship anything up to a certain weight at the lowest shipping band and it doesn't matter if the item you're buying is 1/100th of that weight, it's still in that lowest band. Where there's more profit in an item, they may well ship it "free" but really that just means there's enough room in the price to cover the shipping too - nothing is ever really free unless you steal it or find it lol

Amazon has pretty good shipping prices all around, which is why I've been using them religiously lately. The only downside is you can't get free shipping unless your order specifies it AND only if it totals $25. Newegg is much better for free shipping, Amazon is much better for shipping in general.

For example, my Skull Candy Headphones that I just ordered were $8ish + $2ish shipping.

I just surf around for the best price + shipping ratio though. I'll usually go with Amazon if the order is $25 or more since you'll usually get free shipping, or if not, then I'll just compare with newegg.

I keep forgetting about Xoxide and ZipZoomFly though. I think ZZZ has free shipping on everything? or at least I think they used to or something.

If you want to add two small things to a separate order, shipping will be $2.99 with their "egg saver" shipping (through DHL, delivered by USPS)

Yes, they still have free shipping (FedEx Ground) on everything, and their prices are fairly competitive now.

TigerDirect also gives free shipping on orders $100 or more (gift cards included). Don't forget to use Bing cashback whenever possible, for any retailers that use it.

I tend to get cables and such from 3B Tech (http://3btech.net/) - free ground shipping on everything, so you pay $3 for a cable instead of $1 for a cable and $5 to ship it.
