had they had all the good thq games, like supreme commander etc, then i would have jumped on it, but since supreme commander runs on gpgnet i dont think thats gonna happen:P (plus i already have supreme commander & supreme commander forged alliance xD)

edit:

Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is now available for $2.50. I got it today. I love that game and can't wait to play it again. It's now #1 under $5 in their leaderboard. Hopefully they will make enough dough to cover the cost of redoing the second one as well.

I love steam for stuff like this, I picked up Dead Space ($15) Ghostbusters ($10) Chronicles of Riddick ($10) Wolrd of Goo ($5) and Mirrors Edge ($5). 5 games for under $50 that's a hell of a deal.

Even with a decent connection (3mb down) mirrors edge is taking forever for some reason. Everything else has completed within an hour or two at the most, but this has been downloading for over almost a full day and is only at 70%. And its not just me my buddy on the other side of town (about 30+ miles away) is having the same problem. So even with a decent connection your gona have to wait for this game.

I got Mirrors Edge for $5, can't wait for the download to finish. I've heard its real good but maybe not worth the full price. From what I heard though its worth the $5.

I played it for a bit on 360 and it was cool. I liked it a lot, different flavor for the FPS genre.

geeze only two hours you have barely scratched the surface lol. I'm about 9 hours in now and just over 3/4 of the way through. Definitely one of the scariest games I've played since Doom 3 (with the exception of the first fear, which is a different kind of scary anyway) I would recomend you give it another go

From what i read (and now have played) i would agree that its not worth the $50 at release but $5 most definitely. So far its been quite entertaining a very different type of fps experience for sure.

Dead Space was not as scary as Doom3 (for me at least). I finished Dead Space, but one night while playing Doom3, I kept hearing things creep up on me and at one point I could SWEAR something touched me on the shoulder. Scared the living begeebies out of me and I stopped playing (couldn't sleep that night). Now I can't find my Doom3 disks anymore to finish the game.

I have Mirrors Edge and am glad I got it for less than full price. I like the game, but got stuck at one point and tried for many hours to get past it (have to do a wall run and jump in some hallway with a 90 degree turn and jump). I am going to pick it back up soon to finish.

Judging from the 'early-holiday' in the url, I think it was the Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday part of their holiday sales, and then they're gonna have another sale around Christmas/New Years. That's just my guess though.

The sale was for 5 days only, hence the "5 day 24 hour sale". Each sale price only lasted for 24 hours and they rotated the games, so different games for sale each day.

you know what I love about sales on Steam....they never run out of stock. :D

I don't suppose anyone has any idea if the Steam version of the original Dark Forces supports level mods? I have the original DOS version of the game, runs on my vista x64 system via dosbox, but it'd be nice to have it through steam instead so I can eventually dispense with dosbox. But I've saved a lot of the level mods I downloaded back in the day, and don't want to find myself unable to play them. Same goes for some of the other older games in that series (for instance, I've got the currently-6-level Dark Forces mod that a group made for Jedi Academy, but I don't know if that mod would run under the Steam version of JK Academy...)

my experience with modding games in steam that are not steam games (i.e. basically anything not made by valve or made to work with steam specifically for drm) has been pretty straight forward. all the games have a normal directory structure in you steam folder (typically they can be found under steam/steamapps/common) Just place the mods in their correct location as you would if they weren't installed via steam. I had to mod stalker shadows of Chernobyl so that i could attach the m203 to the gp37. i just followed the instructions for modding it as if it wasn't a steam game and it worked perfectly i assume the same would be true for jka but i dont know about dark forces since they will have had to modify the game to run outside of a dos environment.

I know there isn't a sale on right now, but I thought I would recommend a few games to you guys if you haven't played some of these.

Plants vs Zombies (Easy but fun and funny)
Defense Grid (Another tower defense game, but the best I've ever played)
Hammerfight (2D sidescrolling action. You fight with your mouse. My mouse has never felt so heavy!)
Braid (Good time puzzle action. You will love it)

hmm....k. Maybe I'll just buy the games on steam, and if they work with the mods great, and if not I can always hang onto the older standalone versions. I have Far Cry, and at least one mod I tried downloading for it didn't work. but I may not have stuck it inside the steam directory structure, I don't remember. Thanks for the tips though, here's hopin' it works!

FAWW - (For Anyone Who's Wondering... I just made up my own acronym! :P )

I gave in to temptation and bought the Jedi Knight set on Steam, $20 for Dark Forces, JK, JK II, Mysteries of the Sith, and Jedi Academy. The user-made mods that I have for JKII and Jedi Academy all work, but not for Dark Forces. I never tried them under my old standalone DosBox install, so I'm not sure they even worked before.
