A friends friend's laptop isn't showing results for any search engine. It just says "ooops, this link appears to be broken."
I thought maybe a virus but had her scan and nothing came up. (although the scan wasn't in safe mode).
Any thoughts?

Sounds like she's using chrome. Has she tried a different browser?

Just google doesn't work?
Maybe a virus gave her a loopback? You know like in the routing tables (IDR what it's called, you can set it through CMD)

Try to install Spybot: Search and Destroy and run it. After that, try to run a free online virus scan. If those don't work, let us know. There are other ways to go about fixing this.

In command prompt, try pinging google.com or any other site for that matter.
e.g. ping google.com
This will at least tell you if TCP/IP is working properly...should have 0% loss. If it does work, then it's a problem with the browsers' configuration or virus/spyware/etc.
Another thought: is she connecting with wireless or Ethernet? Try the other.
