 wow that's better then mine my can only play it on medium
*note i only have 256 mbs gddr3 of gpu ram
now to answer your dieing question i would say it's high end expect for the graphics card as the gtx 295 is high end that's just my 2 cents

no... thats not high end. high end is i7 920 + 2 GTX295's :)

yours is close though.

i guess the GTX250 is better then i thought, it's on the medium low end of cards from nvidia (of there new cards).

hey pcclan, i think i asked you before, but have you tried overclocking your 8600GT?

with voltmods and an aftermarket heatsink i was able to get a 300+MHz on the core and 250MHz on memory.

your rig doesnt meet those specs, im asking for unbaised answers please

i never said that was my rig..... i'm saying that that's a HIGH END gaming rig.

every answer will be biased as everyones opinion is different on the topic of high end, but most will agree the best stuff out is high end.

what does it matter if you pc is considered high end?

because as a custom pc bulder i strive for the best

then there are several improvements that could be done.

newer video card, newer cpu, SSD's, faster ram, water cooling or even phase change....

i'm not trying to bash you or your rig i was just saying that IMO the video card side of things your not in high end territory. otherwise you have a high end gaming rig.

if it plays the games you play on the settings you want then your good to go.

As a custom PC builder you should already know whats high end. ;)

Cmon guys - there IS a difference between high-end and top of the range lol
My PC is a Q6700, 8GB RAM and a HD4870 - and I consider that high-end and I've been a system builder for a decade and a half - I'm well aware it isn't the ultimate in top-end but it's still high end - it'll play anything on the shelf so from a gaming point of view....

SoC, wanna race my OCed PII rig in Kerkythea GPU rendering?

Yes, there is a difference in a high-end and extreme. 4GHz booting on water with a 720 with 2 4870x2s at 977/1100 and SSD boot is more like extreme.

The GTS, as well as the motherboard choice keep it from being high end. That board maker has never gotten into midrange in their entire career.

i have a good asus board sitting on one of my shelves but im having issues with the boot sequence of it the gpu doesn't really stop it from being high end seeing as we all know that the cpu alone wont help me get all my games and all the games on the shelf at max settings

I don't see a point in asking if it is high end gaming, if it plays every game at max. The question just comes across as e-peen stroking, especially when you disregard someone's comments just because they don't have a rig that is faster than yours, or as fast as what they state a high end rig would be.

Your rig is decent. I'm not sure what more you want to hear. It's decent, not phenomenal. It's a good couple weeks worth of work; something obtainable, not outlandish, or spendy.

NightrainSrt4 Hit the nail on the head.
It's a good PC, better then mine, but not super-crazy-amazing

Yeah, but correct me if im wrong, but other then the fsb speeds and having the slots for what ever cards/drives you want, the higher end boards mainly just offer serious overclocking options.
I have never gone for any overclocking on my rig, as im pretty poor, and cant really risk the warranties on my components, and therefor the mainboards i would go buy for my gaming rig wouldnt be considered high end.

But your right on the gts 250, i would probably call that a low end card, as i would call my gtx 260 lower midrange.

Well actually, yes it does. you are asking us to look at your specs and tell us if your machine is high end.
Going on the specs, no, it isnt. You have a low end graphics card in there, for not much extra (depending on when you built the machine) you could have got a phenom 965, and i have already mentioned the mainboard, but if it was bragging rights you were looking for, then you could have gone a lot higher spec.

But if it plays all the games you want it to play, surely that makes you happy enough? I wouldnt consider my machine to be high spec at all, unfortunatly i had a tight budget when i built it, but it plays everything i want to play at the highest settings (with just a little stuttering on dragon ages cutscenes..) and thats all that matters to me!

hell look @ my system. its by no means a high end gaming pc, but it plays all the games I play @ max. I run COD:MW2 @ max settings all day long with not so much as a hiccup. I hear the fan on the card cranking up once in a while but thats it.

like the others said, if its for bragging rights its not high end. but if it plays what you want to play with no issues who cares?

There's the thing to take from this thread.

Enjoy your system OP.

I'd say its high end, just not on the bleeding edge. So long as it can play the most graphical processing demanding games on high settings then I'd say its high end for a gaming rig. But I guess what I consider to be high end is a bit broader than others. Some people only consider high end to be basically the bleeding edge or in other words all the new hardware. But that's near impossible to do since technology updates so frequently, so I measure by whether it can play most if not all games on high or not. If it can, then it is. If it can't, then it isn't.

I'm confused.. June 6th, 2009 (New Members Introductory Thread)

hello everyone, im a rookie modder, but i hope to become very good at it. my goal is to become a PC builder/repairer i learned how to build my first rig ( the one i own now ) purely for watching youtube videos for three weeks. it was pure luck that i was able to build it but i did, and im very proud of it. dont know much else to say, other than that id love to be able to learn more, i know a lot before going into college for this type of work, i can build systems and i know how to do modern stuff, ie watercooling ect...though i feel theres much more i can learn. thats why i came here ^_^ im happy to learn from you

This makes me think that you are NOT a custom pc bulder ;) nor is your sig quote accurate... According to that, 10 years ago you were looking forward to Puberty.

Just my 2 cents.

If he can build a system, is he not a system builder?

Now please, i must tend to my bonsai tree and wash my robes.

An SSD, or better yet, 2 SSDs in RAID0 will increase game performance by increasing the speed that models, textures, etc. are loaded into memory. And speaking of memory, 800mhz is a little bland. Games don't need more than 4gigs of RAM, but they benefit from faster RAM. A newer graphics card or two will help bring the frame-rate up in Crysis...it may run on the maximum settings but I'll bet it's barely playable (below 20fps).
Overall, and without knowing more, I'd say your system is in the mid-range as far as gaming goes. As long as it does what you want, it's fine.
