I cleaned out my desktop the other day, and was amazed at the amount of dust that had accumulated in it in the last few months, not to mention the front dust filter that was caked in dust. So I decided to take action against the dust, and whipped this up out of a high power 12 volt fan and a very old and stretchy soccer sock. :P I used a couple thin steel poles that used to be RC car axles to spread out the sock a bit.

this picture is just to show that it actually works. The filter has only been running for about a day total.

all that grey is dust sticking to the inside of the sock. The fan is powered by a 9 volt DC wall adapter that used to belong to a wireless router, so it is not too noisy. At a full 12 volts it, according to the manufacturer's specs, pushes 145 cfm at 45 dB, which is a little loud for my taste- it sounds like a low flying jet plane :D
