I'm at 900 ft and the school is about 1100ft. I figured this would never happen. Just received the call from school.
Here are some preliminary pictures.

Woot!
I cannot describe just how much I love Snow. My girlfriend is Russian and she just can't understand why I like walking around outside in Russian winter. I just enjoy the *crunch, crunch, crunch*, how clean everything looks...although it's better when it's around -5C as opposed to the -35C it was last winter in Izhevsk (and expecting colder this winter :( )

We are expecting snow at our house today at ~500'. Good timing too since it started raining about 1/2 hour after I got my new windows installed on the kitchen remodel. This morning I had to drive through the snow to get to work and that is ~1500'. While I love playing in the snow, I left Colorado because I was tired of commuting and living in it. I am excited about this weather since I am planning on trying out my new boots and bindings on Sunday.

Where do you board/ski at?
And don't you live semi-close? Like on the coast of Cali?

The past few years we've had pretty much 2-3 months of 2-3 feet of snow, sometimes even more than that. It's not unusual I'd say, but this year, it's only been lightly dusting, which is very unusual. There's usually dusting by November, yet it's already December. Ahhh I hate Idaho, this state can't make up its mind about weather. I swear, its the most inconsistent weather state ever. It's always different. I could have sworn it almost hailed in July one time! lol
I'm looking forward to more snow though. I can't wait for it. Its a blessing for some I guess, but dammit, I like that crunch crunch sound too! lol
Edit: By the way, there hasn't been a snow day here in many years. I've only had.. I think 2 in my entire life. We are nuts about that kind of stuff. Buses in ditches left and right? Nah, most of them will still make it! No snow day! Pfff.

I board mostly at Kirkwood due to the terrain and proximity (gotta love The Wall and Wagon Wheel!). This weekend though we may hit up Mt. Rose since I have a free pass and my friend is going to be in Reno for a long weekend.
Let's see, here are my favoites and why:
Kirkwood Ski Resort (http://www.kirkwood.com/): Great powder after a snow (and usually one of the deepest snowpacks in North America), challenging terrain and technical runs with lots of hits.
Sierra at Tahoe (http://www.sierraattahoe.com/): Fantastic terrain park with a superpipe (20' walls).
Mt. Rose (http://mtrose.com/): Small but great fun. Some really fast and loooong Green runs that dump into a modest terrain park. Nice black runs on both sides of the mountain that will challenge anyone. I have not been in the new Chutes area, but have long drooled over dropping in. They just opened that area recently.
Heavenly (http://www.skiheavenly.com/Default.aspx): One foot in Nevada, one foot in California. Fantastic view of the desert on one side and Lake Tahoe on the other. A must see for anyone visiting! (hate the crowds (moving slalom poles)).
Yes Trace I am close to the coast. 15 minutes to the ocean in the Santa Cruz Mountains in a little town called Boulder Creek.

Yeah, I can't help but laugh, because most of the time it takes quite a bit to call school off here (New Hampshire), too. Anything you can comfortably walk through without boots just ain't gonna cut it.
We had a couple inches on Saturday, and we had a slushy inch or so at the end of October, so we're about on par for this time of year. We'll usually rack up a few feet by the end of March. Time to get my better snow tires put on and fill the trunk with bags of something gritty...

Meh. You want snow, come to Montana. I'll get some pics this spring from the Continental Divide after they get it built up to about 15 or 20 feet. Yes, feet.

Here's what the email said
Dear Ponderosa Families and Staff,
This is Principal Moore. I am calling to inform you that school will be closed on Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Due to the freezing temperatures and poor road conditions, District busses will be unable to operate. This combined with continued power outages and falling trees has led to the decision to close school for a second day.
Once again, Ponderosa will be closed on Tuesday, December 8, 2009. We appreciate your cooperation. More information will be sent regarding when and if we will make up the two snow days.
To view pictures of the Ponderosa in the snow click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rctJP_HVpKg
All four schools in the El Dorado Union High School District will be closed on Tuesday, December 8.
Thank you for your time. Goodbye

We've been getting a little dusting here. After 2 days we're at probably about 6". Little tiny snow pellets really instead of flakes. Temps are dropping too, checked weather.com today while I had to run the Drive Thru today and it said outside felt like 8 below. Really did feel like it.

They call off school, shut down roads, and close businesses here even if we get flurries. Last time we had any snow that stuck was when I was in the 10th grade. (10 years ago) It snowed for 4 days straight then and we had about 10" on the ground when it was over.

About 10 years ago my family was vacationing in Florida for 2 weeks and it freakin snowed there. Some vacation...
Anyway, the cops had blocked off the freeways in Georgia after a light dusting and said it was too dangerous to use them. My dad told the cop we were from Michigan and said we drove through much worse than that to get this far. The cop let us through but kept blocking everyone else. We had our own private highway! The snow hadn't even covered the grass in the median yet...sissies...
The pink in this map (http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/1043/snowi.jpg) over Lake Michigan is freezing rain because the water warms the air and adds tons of moisture to it...once it gets towards one of the shores it dumps snow that is measured in feet...not inches. It's really bad in the UP. So go there if you guys want to see some snow...at least get as close as you can since the roads will likely be snowed in.:D

there's a running joke that Idahoans say that always rings true. if you dont like the weather in Idaho, wait 5 minutes.
Idaho's weather is seriously bipolar. one minute you have 70 degree F temps, the next minute its snowing (seriously happened one week, we had a day that was 70 degrees, and the next day we woke up to 4 inches of snow and ~30 degree temps! this was June of 07 if I remember right)
we got about 4" today of snow. beautiful. I love it.

Ditto Montana. Here's a story that'll make you cringe: -30F below on Monday. I had the Durango plugged in, went out started it, got it warmed up, got the family in, and proceeded to head into town. We made it roughly 100 yards before the tranny decided to crap out. I still had reverse, and it was 6:30 in the morning so I just backed her up and parked her. Dug out the Ford Focus (snow had blown up to the hood line, which is about 2 feet) started it (it protested since it wasn't plugged in) and will be taking that ****ing piece of **** Durango back to the shop and then to the dealership up the road a ways to trade it off.

That makes two of us. I figured since it was the same frame/engine/drivetrain as the Dakota (which I owned previously) it wouldn't be all that much different. Boy was I wrong.

My family had a brand new dodge caravan (i think it was a 2001, could have been a 2000) that UNDER warranty had to have the transmission replaced twice within 30,000. the motor also went out right around the same time. thank god it was under warranty. My parents got rid of that van really quick after that. Since then, Dodges scare me. :S
sorry bout the bum luck DT, that sucks. btw, whats your elevation there in MT? what area of MT you in again?
