cutting a PATA cable?

can it be done? I've got one that I'm going to use in my rockin case project but I only need it to run a HDD. I've got an external USB DVD drive for it, and I dont want the other end of the cable just hangin out. Can I cut it off at the first connector and use it like that? :think: :?

Yes.
Use a very sharp exacto knife and make sure that all the wire strands are cut and not touching. I trim the cable as close to the connector as I can and it is easy to tell if you have errant wires.

I use scissors for that.. good sharp ones. :) But yes, I've done it as well.
