Well, in their defense, escalators are pretty fun to ride. At least, more so than stairs. Have you guys ever tried riding normal stairs? They take FOREVER!

I still walk up (or down) them.

Same. I walk along those movable walkways at airports, too - double your speed without doubling your effort; I like that.
Unlike some, I'm perfectly willing to put in that effort in the first place.

I have had run-ins with security at 3 airports now for riding my skateboard on the moving beltways. You can really get some speed up on those puppies. Just be ready for the transition to non-moving floor. They tried to confiscate my board, but I argued and won (mainly because of how much my board cost, no one wanted that responsibility). They made the flight attendant stow it in the crew locker so I couldn't kick flip at 30,000 feet. No sense of humor.

You can mess the rollers up on those walk ways doing something like that.
Rollers for those don't come cheap either. New ferrari F430 modenas come cheaper then a whole set of rollers for a 40 foot walk way :P.... and there are only two companies that make escalators. ones in Europe and other is in Missouri.
I'd also probably be mad if you went skateboarding across my 640,000$ escalator.
