Ive done a tiny bit of modding before but never anything major. Paint.. paint... and uhm, a few dents..

Ive always wanted to do my own case and now the time has come. My question is whether or not renta-bond is alright to use for framing a case... I have a friend that works in a sign shop and I get it pretty cheap.

If you dont know what rentabond is it is a thin sheet of plexiglass with an even thinner sheet of aluminum on either side. Alot of the newer road signs are being made from this stuff.. I see no reason that it wouldn't be alright to use, but it never hurts to check..

Thanks guys...

I have never heard of that stuff, how much is it normally just out of curiosity?

Not sure, I had 8 pieces cut because I was going to do an octagon shaped case. They were something like 4 @ 14x6.5 and 4 @ 14x8.25 or something and I believe I paid around $15 for it all. I dont feel like doing the math but I am going to guess that was about $1 - $1.50 / square foot. Its really thin and light. I have used it before working with cars and making other stuff around the house and usualyl it comes with a protective sheet on it like plexi does, but for some reason this latest stuff was coated. I think renta-bond might just be a name brand of the stuff, much like Bondo. But I will try to find out more about it.

I will try to get some pics up of it, but it is so thin it might be hard to tell.. for the broad side it looks just like a piece of aluminum. you ahve to look at the ends... think of it like plywood wehre mulitple pieces are pressed together.. only with plexi and aluminum.. but i will work on getting some pics up

this stuff sounds sweet, wish I had some, you could get some killer lighting effects with that stuff I bet.
