planning on using an lcd on the next mod. first one costs half of the USB one but i take it there's more work to be done to get it to work right? would you rather spend a little bit more to get the usb one or get the cheaper one and connect it?

never worked with an lcd module before so either one is gonna provide a learning experience

Having some experience with the HD44780 LCD's and interfacing them via the parallel port, let me just say... GET THE USB!!! :D It is a royal PIA, and well worth 10 bucks to get one ready to run.

Ditto, worked on one for a friend through parallel and wanted to shoot it with 12 gauge when done. I use this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811996004&cm_re=PRO-LCD-_-11-996-004-_-Product) in 3xNES and the USB, much easier to get up and running.
