Dunno what the heck the rest stands for, but nm.

Back again, the long dark evenings are upon us, and I had to find something to keep me annoyed, my mind racing, and my nights sleepless... (You guessed it, I have no current girlfriend! :D )

I've been looking around, and for some weired reason, noone has watercooled a Nintendo Wii before... And since I want it wall-mounted, I had to figure out something at the same time.

My first thought was to do a Wii5, a 1:2 scaled version of the Mac G5 case, that I've come to love badly! But that's gonna come later on, when I get a larger appartment, and the kitchenpc is a must. :)

This time I actually have a PLAN of how this should come out! Believe it or not. Minor changes will come, this is why I will not reveal the immense scale of this project as of now.
Those who will follow my thread, will (hopefully) see the result as it gets completed. :thumb:

A fews hints: Yes, it will ofcourse be watercooled.
Yes, the front will be see-through.
Yes, I will mess up from time to time.
And last but not least, as of this moment, it still works!

Now, on with the show:

The Wii as we all know it:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00307.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

The drive with some marking, for cutting:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00348.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

The drive after cnc:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00371.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Painted black:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00372.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Enough of the drive!

On to Le Pump, that I had lying around from my first mod:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00393.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Now, this has to fit into a tube with a core diameter of 59mm, therefore a bit of modding is required:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00396.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

It still needs a trip to the lathe, pics will come later! :)

Ye olde Waterblock! Made in the same idea as the block I made for my GFX on the G5, channels inside to make the water run through!

Bottom milled:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00358.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

The top done:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00360.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00361.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

This is then my FIRST idea, which has been scrapped:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00363.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00362.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

The inlet/outlet will go in the sides now, to make it more "Wii compatible" :)
This can be seen in the first assembly, on the backplate:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00406.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

No case without sides! Left and right are somewhat similar, but I only have a pic of the left one:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00401.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Very, VERY crude idea of part of the setup:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00404.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//ReDSC00405.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

That should actually do it for now, I hope to amaze you guys a bit, as this project goes forth. If not, I just hope I like it myself! :)

Looking through the preview, I found error number 1... But you guys will never know! :lol

Seems like overkill for a Wii, guess that's why I like it so much already!

That waterblock is quite amazing. Excellent work!! How did you machine the holes between the letters? Oohhh, you should add an led or two to the acrylic to make that block glow.

lol sweet! a watercooled wii. never would have thought of that. :P

Thx for the nice replys.

Remy <-- I just drilled holes in the depths needed, plugged them again, and milled the whole thing. That leaves the wanted holes as they are supposed to be! :)
I actually thought about it when I did the waterblock for my 8800 gfx on my G5 mod

Nothing for the naked eye to see:

Well, very small update, kinda boring, but felt like writing something! :geek:

Didn't have much time today, so I only got to make the inner tops and bottoms of the reservoirs...
The resses have been cut, but not machined yet, wednesday should bring more to update about! :thumb:

you must be mentally insane to watercool a wii, but on the other hand, i know you are;) welcome to TBCS man and enjoy your stay (and your bench when we get that far;))

It's TWINS! YAY! :D

So far so good! The reservoirs as of now:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00420.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

They are 220 mm's high and the aluminum is 70 mm outside diameter! :)

Still have a couple of thoughts about these, I might polish the aluminum for a bling-effect!

I need to install the pump in 1 of the res'es, 7 fittings in each res, and a fillport and outlet. My economy is a bit like the state of California this month though, so this will be in the start of january!
Got a couple of ideas about the pump also, I will look into those during the next cpl of days.

That's it for now boys and girls!

The word of today is .... YAY! :thumb:

Since wrecking the pump, I wanted to torture myself and see what could be wrong, as the blue LED inside was still working!

A very wise man asked me if I had cut some of the print away, and maybe removed something I shouldn't have...
Low and behold, I had!

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00427x.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Taken with my cellphone through a magnifying glass:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00426x.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

A lesson in electricity - Angel style!

Danish electricity is apparently waaaaay to high class and way to lazy to do any work.
Despite my very convincing shouting, it completely denied to jump the small gap between A & B.... Lousy goodfornothing ¤%#&¤"!#¤ :wallbash:

Hence, I had to bridge it.
I milled away the plastic beneath, to reveal the copper on the print:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00431.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

A little piece of wire, some soldering, and VOILA! :

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00432.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Ye Olde Pump had sprung back to life! :thumb:

I'm going out to eat tonight, but I'll make a sketch of the plan for the new housing later.
Actually, it's not gonna be a complete housing, more of a semi housing/pumptop.

I hope it works out, guess we'll see laters! :)

I promised drawings, and here they are. Somehow they never turn out the way I want others to see them, but the finished product should, so nm. :thumb:

Water flows down into the rotor, gets spun around, and leaves out the side, thru a piece of pipe, and onwards to the waterblock.

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//assem-pumpe-jpg.jpg (http://www.uploadit.org)

Assembled with the aluminum and such...

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//assem-pumpe-jpg2.jpg (http://www.uploadit.org)

Hopefully I'll get it machined either sunday or monday, C ya guys then for a new update! :)

Well. I decided to call off X-mas, and spent some hours in the workshop today getting the pump/reservoir back on track.

I didn't quite finish, but tomorrows another day! :thumb:

Aluminum top-base for the pump. Adds distance from the original pump, to the bottom of the propeller:

In the making:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00436Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Aluminum top and base of reservoir:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00438Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Voila, almost done. I still need to make the outlet on the pump, but that should come tomorrow!

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00439Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Whadoyamean "tight fit"?

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00440Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

I call this one "Pieces"!

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00444Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Somewhat assembled:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00445Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

The aluminum cover wrapped around:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00446Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Bottom of the res/top of the pump in all it's glory. Still need the outlet, but you get the idea! :

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00447Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Well, that's it for now, more shall come tomorrow!

Merry X-mas to all!
I hope santa brings you those great hard(ware) gifts! :)

Yet another small update. Got up early this morning and took a couple of hours in the workshop.

Except for figuring out exactly how the exit from the pump/res will be, this should be done now. :)

Hole drilled:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00448Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Hose for outlet mounted (not glued yet)

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00450Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00451Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

I milled a fast pice of the center of the bottom part, just to see if I got all the meassurements right. I didn't, glad I just made this of a piece of scrap aluminum!
Something works well though!

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00452Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

Just to get and idea of the final setup:

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00449Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

http://premium1.uploadit.org/uheldigengel//DSC00453Medium.JPG (http://www.uploadit.org)

As you see, it doesn't quite fit, I'll do some meassuring from this, and then I'm off to Ye Olde Workshop again tomorrow to do the final version of the bottom.

I mailed a guy in Germany today about the fittings I need, just to make sure he has the 24 I need. Hope he does, then they should arrive soon, and be ready to fit if I get all the other stuff ready by then! :)

Well... Even though the workshop is only 13 degrees celsius at the time, I had to do something. I got the top and bottom on the way. But they are far from done still.
Only stayed for 5 hours, so I didn't get very far, but I'll get further tomorrow.

Todays update:
