He is pretty damn good. He's got the talent to support himself, so I have to wonder, why doesn't he? Is a habit really more important than a home?

Does anyone else think its weird that this guy is somehow much cooler for being homeless? I don't get that. It's like.. they're not quite human or something, like for some reason its shocking that this human being can sing and play guitar pretty well. He's just homeless! It's not like he's any different than any other human being, so why is this surprising/shocking or any cooler than the next person who can sing/play guitar pretty well. Hmm.

Great voice though. It's a bit rough, but I like that. It's like his singing style or something. The produced/refined version doesn't sound anywhere as good imo. (can be found under related videos)

It's probably more shocking because they are living on the street, so one might assume that they have no marketable talent or skills. (Although, it's usually the case that some sort of addiction or mental illness landed them there instead.) Homeless people aren't usually born homeless; they become so at some point in their life. They were relatively normal at some point and had social skills, hobbies, a place to bathe, perhaps a job, and a home of sorts.
This guy could have been in a band long ago and lost everything for some reason. Which is why I asked my question: why doesn't he support himself [with his talent]?
Maybe he's crazy and randomly attacks people...or that's the only song he knows, and doesn't even speak English...or maybe he has to be 1 drink from falling over in order to perform...
There are a lot of homeless wandering the streets here...mostly drunks and meth addicts...and if they aren't willing to work for money, then I am not willing to give a s*** about them. I will not work to support myself and their habits. It's really not all that hard to get a McJob...at least when the economy is OK.

I went to Portland and Denver a few years back and talked to a lot of the homeless there. Most of them just hit rough points in their lives and pretty much lost everything. I didn't meet too many who had some kind of mental illness or addiction, although they were definitely there. But in my experience, I'd actually say they're the minority in the homeless demographic. Lot of kids too, surprisingly. I met some from late teens to mid twenties. Pretty crazy.

I don't know if this one guy was homeless or not, but he was hanging around the area where a lot of them stayed around and he just sat down by himself and started playing the guitar really well. I didn't remember that until just now.

I can't begin to guess what has led him to his current situation but I am saddened to think that he is very aware but unable to find a way back out. Especially when he sings this.

What the hell am I doin' here? I don't belong here, I don't belong here...

Every artist writes songs with a meaning, a moment, or message in mind; sometimes a song is re-made by a different artist that purposes it with another, possibly greater, meaning. Much like this homeless man has done.

Most of them just hit rough points in their lives and pretty much lost everything. There really aren't a whole lot of things that can cause someone to just 'lose' everything. Addictions such as alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc are probably the number 1, 2, and 3 reasons a lot of people are homeless. And from my experience, believe about 10% of what they tell you...they want money from you and I. I see the same guys all the time and their life stories change every week.
I'm not saying that all homeless are worthless cretins that survive only to purge others' wallets, but many are...and they don't care to better themselves. Some, such as the guy in this video, have talent. If he put it to use, chances are he wouldn't be stuck on the street.

Man, its a shame that so much potential goes to waste like this.
