Hello, its been a year since I been on the site, but I have come to ask a question.

So, I have Two 9800gx2s in my computer but one actually works fully, the other one, one of its cores doesn't work and so I got it working in sli with that one core with the other card. Well I still want a full set up and was looking at getting another 9800gx2,
I have a Evga 790i board
6gigs ddr3
QX6850 Quad
So here is the questions,
I have the plain Evga 9800, will it work with a SSC edition or any other editions In SLI?
OR should I just start looking at getting an GTX card? Tho, as of right now I have money for another 9800 off of ebay than a new card. But just a thought...
Also Does anyone know the real reason why they pulled the 9800gx2 off the shelves?

A good 295 should be able to give your setup a run for its money. Incidentally, it's why the 9800GX2 is gone.

What OS are you running? I think two 9800GX2s in SLI are actually configured as 4-way SLI. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

so an ssc version will work with a non ssc version?
is that the question you are answering?

I believe that it will work best with a standard gx2, so that each node is identical. It also might be worth looking into a GTX275 or 5770 or such, since that would probably actually give you better performance, what with the scaling of SLI. I forget what exactly the scaling rate is atm, but last I checked it was only around 50%.

yes it will work. i ran a plain 8600GT with a SSC 8600GT. the 8600GT was in the first slot so the SSC card ran at the plain 8600GT's speeds.

i don't see an issue with SC or SSC with the stock one.

the reason they don't sell them anymore is because there is the GTX295.

yeah, they just have to run at the same speed.
