Choppy Video Playback

I'm watching videos on my Motorola Q9m and the video playback is a bit choppy. I'm 90% sure it has something to do with the bit rate as its trying to play back 1465Kbps. So, how can I get smoother playback? Is there a way to lower the bit rate or something? I was thinking about using some kind of video editor, but I'm not even sure what to use.

I'd say try to reencode it at half that bitrate, and see what it's like. Also, you can re-encode stuff at the native resolution for that device, and that will help lesson the CPU load (and make the filesize smaller too).

handbrake is good, virtualdub is a bit more simple though.
