The other day I was in my local puter shop, Falcon Computers and one of the guys there who I deal with pretty exclusively now said "Oh, I have something to show you.....!"

2 minutes later I'm standing in front of a 100hz LCD wearing a really silly looking pair of glasses and utterly lost for words.

Now I'm trying to find a way to justify replacing my monitor (which is perfectly adequate - but this only works with certain specific monitors at the time of writing) and graphics card (I have a Radeon 4870 which is more than enough for my uses and you have to have certain Nvidia cards to make this work) - if you get the chance to try this stuff, you have to do it!!!

The 3D is truly amazing, it doesn't come out of the screen at you - it makes the screen seem to be a window into a deep 3D monitor - nothing is closer than the glass, but the stuff on display really does look like full-on geniune 3D. It's just a shame that there isn't a way to share it with people who can't actually access the equipment - taking a photo of it would do nothing because it's the combination of the glasses and the screen which makes it work.

Yeah now with movies in 3D it won't be to long till there will be 3D tv's in the home.

Apparently they are selling desinger 3D glasses now to.

I can't wait till games really use 3d so in COD8 or something there are RPG's coming out of the screen at you.

Wow! I bet if I tried to play Mirror's Edge on that setup I'd barf on my keyboard! Looks pretty cool though, I'd like to try it out.

It was weird - the 3D was depth as opposed to something coming out of the screen - it was like the surface of the monitor was a sheet of glass and everything was happening behind it - was more about depth than standing out if that makes any sense

I've been looking at these systems for a while. I would get one if I had the money, but upgrades come a little bit at a time. I would like if they had some bigger computer monitors that supported it, something 27"+, 1920x1200 or higher resolution. It seems I can choose that or go with something in the 60"+ range. The technology is a few years old. I was looking into maybe going that route when I did my last build but decided I wanted a 28" monitor instead. In a few years almost all the monitors and TVs will support the technology and they will all be less than an inch thick. I'm pretty sure I'll wait til then.

My recommendation, wait another year, if that makes your eyes pop out.... then you're going to love what the future holds. btw, I hear it's nothing like RealD in the movies ;P

The only problem with that idea is that, in a year, there'll be something else newer and more exciting just around the corner and we'll be having the same discussion again lol

i have the glasses and the GFX card, my monitor dosen't support it though :(

Although i was thinking of replacing my monitor soon, and was thinking of getting one that supported the nvidia 3d vision thing

This is no doubt, but remember, the current hardware is only the first generation.

My dad has a 3D ready TV, so won't be long is in the past.

I've got the older MSI STEREO-2 set up. (geforce 4 era)

(theres a mention of my glasses in this article)

same deal, same technology, same implemention.

Right so technically you don't need the special LCD panel, Older CRT monitors do the same exact thing, even with the new ones, they'll still work on CRTs. it just needs the ability to function at at least 80Mhz, but if you look at them on a 60hz monitor, the screen just appears to be off. oddly enough you should try looking at your cell phone or alarm clock with them on, looks crazy. you can see the individual digits refresh on alarm clocks... sorta like a pulsing.

There should of been a hotkey to increase or decrease the distance between shutters, (more or less 3D)

I can say though...and this is scary.

If you use those glasses for a extended period of time, when you remove them, your eyes involuntary cross themselves for a second, lol i can't control it either.

I'm curious as to if they work on the new 240Hz 120Hz LED panels.

55" 3D monitor would be the s@#$

My dad's DLP is 120Hz, 73" and 3D ready. I should encourage him to invest in the rest of the tech as it becomes a little cheaper and more widespread in the next few years.

I am in the same situation. I have the glasses (wired) and card (quadro FX4600), but no monitor (Got rid of my 24" superwide CRT due to it's size).

I have used the shutter glasses for years and they have only gotten better. When I ran the Engineering Reality Center that was part of my VR labs at SGI, we would get to try out many vendors products on a 10'h x 26'w parabolic screen. It was AMAZING!

I can only imagine that the new generation of glasses have only gotten better (at least they don't look as funky anymore...)

the GTS250 I just got for Rockin Case has a 3D demo thing on it, but I need to look into it more to figure out how to use it

oh man i can personally say there is a huge difference between this generation of glassses, and the ones i have currently

The ones i have leave the image over all still pretty dark, and you can see some Vertical tearing every so often when the glasses dont sync perfect.

The new ones though, crystal clear for the most part, defiantly wider viewing angle the Hz is faster so i guess that has to do with the clarity

Best 3D game i've used so far is the new Turok

You'll sh@# your pants the first time a raptor comes creeping out of the 3d grass.
