"Sony Pictures announced in January 2010 that plans for the film had been cancelled due to Raimi's withdrawal from the project. Raimi reportedly ended his participation due to doubt that he could meet the planned May 2011 release date while upholding the film creatively.[43]

Reboot

On January 11, 2010, simultaneous with the cancellation of Spider-Man 4, Sony announced that the franchise would be rebooted with a new director and new cast. The reboot film is scheduled to be released in summer 2012"

Wow, seems as though only a few people are trying to make something new and original these days...

Maybe now Raimi can go ahead with the remake of Evil Dead.

But yeah, there is nothing original anymore.

But, to their credit, it has to be hard as hell to come up with anything new. Everything has been done, and anything you can make up will be compared to something else. So hats off to anyone that's trying to be creative, I can't imagine the pressure they are under.
Back on topic, does Sony really think the people want to see another series of Spiderman movies? And don't they think the only thing people will do is compare it to the ones that Raimi did? I think it's silly. But hey that's Sony. Look at the fit they are throwing over Redbox.

Meh, doesn't really bother me that much; I probably wouldn't have seen it anyways, so whatever. Personally I don't really like the new Spiderman movies much; I felt like they strayed too far from the original character...and didn't create nearly as good a one to replace it.

Supposedly its going to be a "Nitty gritty" version.

The director who was originally doing spiderman 4 is now working on WoW the movie.

I always thought the current spiderman was too much of a self absorbed wuss. I hope they toughen his character up a bit.

The main problem I see with a WoW movie, is trying to get all those WoW fans to step away from the keyboard long enough to visit the theatres...

"reboot the franchise" translates to "Luke will not pay to see this movie, so forget about it.

How many remakes have I seen in my lifetime? Too many.

How many remakes have I seen in the past.. say, 5 years? Punisher and Hulk spring directly to mind.
