Okay, so that's not so true, but it is $8000 a gallon, which is $62.5 an ounce, but . . . I mean $8000 a gallon!

A year ago I embarked upon a sheet music printing project - ended up being around 45,000 pages. I did 28,000 of that on a Samsung ML-2851nd (duplex capability AND built-in ethernet). That samsung has been an incredible little printer. I initially bought a couple toners @ ~$70 each, then discovered how easy they are to refill. I ended up printing those 28,000 pages for about $1000. Total. that includes the cost of the printer, which I bought specifically for that task, and the cost of those first couple toners.
I discovered that if used as directed, I could get about 1,200 pages out of a toner. For retail of $130. So that's 10.8 cents per page. Using the refills, the toner cartridge would last about 12,000 pages before its parts started to wear out. With each refill bottle yielding about 9,000 pages, and costing a mere $35 per bottle, that's only 3.8 cents per page. Total cost difference for 28,000 pages is nearly $2,000 (~$1,000 vs. ~$3,000)!!

I also have an Epson 2200, and unlike many cheapie Epsons that get such a bad rap, this one's amazing. gorgeous photo quality, and the ink has never clogged in the printhead. Dried up a bit and taken several cleaning cycles to clear it, which is to be expected when you let an inkjet sit unused for 2 years, but after thorough cleaning it prints just like the day I bought it. course, it was also orignally a $700 machine, so it's better quality than the cheapie ones. :D

So yeah...my printer experience was positive. til I went to Staples to buy one cartridge (single color) for my Epson. And it was $18. Stupid retail ink prices...
