I HATE cell phone, but my wife makes me have one. So, go figure when I finally got one a year ago, it turned out to be total and utter garbage. I got the Kyocera Tempo and it's junk. The battery lasts a day tops whether I use it or not. I got a new battery 6 months ago and all is the same. I could just open it and press one button and it'll just shut off! In the middle of calls it reboots!

I really hate this phone. Go figure, everyone else (http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/kyocera-tempo-e2000/4852-6454_7-33283317.html?tag=psum) hates it too.

Luckily I can get a new one in a few months, but which brand to buy?

What have you had the best of luck with?

Samsungs are bulletproof, and LG are good as well, although ive had bad experiences with them in the past. (I currently own an LG Voyager on Verizon and love it though, its a beast. high build quality.)

Every motorola phone i've owned has been a piece of ****. fallen apart within months of me getting them. thank god for insurance! my cousin went through razors in a space of 5 or 6 months. pretty horrendous. lol

I have an HTC touch pro, and like it. Had a couple of problems but sprint straightened everything out.

I'm leaning toward the LG Bliss as my next phone

Personally, I love Nokias. They're built like freakin bricks and will never ever die. There's a very good reason why there are more Nokia cell phones in use around the world than any other company (38% of the world market in Q3 09). Unfortunately, if you want a smartphone they don't have a very large lineup right now...idk about the 'smart dumb phones' (like the LG Bliss) though; I haven't really looked at them much.

If you want a phone that will never die and will surive get a nokia handset. They will last to the dawn of the new century.

I presonally ignore my own advice and use an iPhone which I have to go and get fixed next week.

I had an iphone and loved it until I stepped on it and the screen cracked. seeing how I couldnt afford another and the wife had verizon, I switched and now have the LG Dare. its pretty sweet. I can put music on it and stuff, but no apps, so if you get bored its listen to music or watch movies or whatever. takes a micro SD card too, which would be sweet if the iphone did

Toughest phone ever: Audiovox 9000. Several trips out the car window at speed (oops), dunked a few times, thrown in rage more than twice, and into a toilet once. Worked great until the day it was stolen, so it probably would still be in service for me today.

Most suprising phone: LG something or other.. some POS flip phone that I got as a work phone. Suprisingly good battery life/signal/durability.. crap screen, crap buttons, crap ringtones.

I also had a nokia at one time, that was a good solid phone. Dependable and durable. Super simple, but never let me down. Once I figured out how to unlock it, it was WAY more fun.

My last 3 have been HTC's though. Apache 3700, P4000 (aka Titan), and now a Diamond. Diamond is the coolest I think, but it's expensive, tempermental, and fragile. Once the contract is up, I'll probably go back to something simpler. Smart phones are cool, but I need dependable and long lasting.. not cool looking and powerful.

Ditto for Nokia's shelf-life. I still have my Nokia which was my first phone and it was very reliable. I switched to a 3G iPhone because it handled much of the software I needed in the hospital and honestly I have grown to love it. It can do just about anything and thus far is extremely reliable and smooth as silk in terms of common-sense function. It is however much more susceptible to damage and expensive as already mentioned but I think the function justifies the cost. Many disagree, but there it is.

I have had only LG's so I can't speak to other manufacturers myself.

My first LG was a piece of crap. (not sure of the model but it is not made anymore). My second LG is the LG The V (VX9800). I am on my 4th one since the other 3 had keyboard lockups after charging in the car. It was something to do with the power regulator circuit. This one locked up once, but has been fine for at least a year.

I've had a Samsung Gleam for over a year and a half now and it's still going strong. I haven't exactly been gentle with it either...all corners have chips gouged out. It fell out of my pocket onto a tile floor 3 times today alone, which is pretty typical.:whistler:
Battery life isn't very good though. If I talk on it for a couple hours a day it needs to be charged each night in order to make it through the next day. If I don't use it though, it lasts several days.
It's a slim, shiny little flip-phone that's web- and gps-enabled. It gets a signal everywhere I've ever been with it so far. And it looks nice still, despite the roughened corners and micro-scratches covering it.
And as for Nokia, I did have a Nokia brick that outlasted whatever signal technology was replaced 5 or 6 years ago. It didn't even have a dent or scratch in it either. One day I was told through the mail that it wasn't going to be compatible after the tower broadcast systems were upgraded. I used it until that day and a single tear may or may not have rolled down my cheek when the phone told me it lost signal for the last time. That thing was mostly battery and held a charge for weeks. I miss it a little, but I don't miss its bulk. It was also just a phone...it didn't do ANYTHING but make calls.

I recently got a HTC Touch Pro (after my father upgraded to a Touch Pro 2). Only complaint... not enough buttons.

I called our provider and they said I can get a new phone in 10 days!! I can't get an LG Bliss because I would HAVE to pay $20 per month for their internet plan as well. Internet access is why I have computers. I still really want a touch screen and the only one that is without the internet is the Motorola Crush.

Here (http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/Motorola-Crush-US-EN)

I already went to the store and played with it. It's really nice, but has too many functions that I would never use, but then again, they all do.

This is the only reason I have not upgraded top a Droid (except it is $29.95).

I don't want email on my phone and I could use the wireless connection to surf the web (not that I would want to on those tiny screens). Why would I need their data plan?...

Are you forced to get a internet plan with your phone if it supports it?

It depends on the plan, the phone, and if the carrier is subsidizing the phone. A lot of the time they do require a data plan for subsidized smartphones. Think about it; they're knocking usually ~$300-700 off the cost of the phone; they don't want you to only be paying $20/mo for the 2 year contract for a cheap voice-only plan. If you already own the phone though, you can often write your own way through, especially with plans like TMobile's "Even More Plus" plans (one of the few things I actually like about TMobile).

In Australia, if you want a smart phone, you can pretty much pick any plan, but on a cheap plan, you have to also pay partly for the phone, while you don't on the higher plans. And also most data plans are optional.
