I got a Portable DVD plyer for xmas I was thinking of riping out the screen and using it in my PC, anyway you wanted suggestions maybe make a perspex(Plexi Glass to you americans) disk drive cover thing so you can see the disk spinning. Also you could light it up with some LEDs and small cathodes!

yeah i dont want to put a plexi glas top on the disc drive because then i will have all this extra light on the screen and i dont want that crap.

So the LED and cathodes are out.

Any other ideas?
