Well I have pretty much abandoned my old Alienware case for this project. It was just a bit too restrictive for some of the things I wanted to do. I am going to try my hand at making a custom case from scratch.

I am a big fan of the Lian Li cases and plan on using some of the features from the V1200 as inspiration. This will be the first time I have built a case so it may be a trial and error process.

If anyone has any tips or pics on how the case is constructed I would really appreciate it. I have been checking out alot of the close up shots on many of the work logs and am starting to formulate a plan of attack.

Thanks everyone.

I would start by drawing a sketch of what you want it to look like and gather all of the parts you plan to install. Then just start measuring and building. Crimson_sky had a real good idea by cutting out models of each part (i.e. power supply and visoe cards, etc..) and using them to see if things were fitting together. Wish I had thought to do that because it is much easier on the equipment rather than using the real stuff and risking static and the likes.

Jd's right, the best way to start is with a good design plan.
Just remeber that some times the things that look good on paper don't work so well in the real world so be a bit flexable too (while building).

Check Tribal's work logs, Maltory's Flame case is a good one too!

I think he is trying to get some what the same design as a standard Rectangle case not an upside down top with legs :P

The R2Serv one gives out good examples of working with Metal and designing a case from the ground up.

Having a idea / Plan ahead of time makes things easier as the two above me said.

I used old HDD when I was testing for space and a Cooldrive 6 to get the idea of the size I was wanting.

I have use the 1/4" thick foam board to make a rough design of projects before as well to.
