picked up one of these (in 1.5TB) (http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/desktops/barracuda_hard_drives/barracuda_lp/), one of these (for the WD 400GB I replaced) (http://www.rocketfishproducts.com/pc-117-3-rocketfish-hard-drive-enclosure-kit-for-35-sata-hard-drives.aspx) and one of these (for 6GB total now) (http://www3.pny.com/4GB-Kit-2x2GB-PC2-6400-800-MHz-DDR2-Desktop-DIMMs-P2678C31.aspx) today, and did a fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate, but with 64-bit this time. Its like a new computer!!!
dang!
and BTW, that Rocketfish enclosure is FREAKING AWESOME!

my buddy just got one of those..
hahah how long did it take to format? and i was concerned at the 5,400rpm speeds. But it seems rather fine...well besides load times for games.
i was already speeding down the track on Dirt2, while he was still on the loading screen.
but i've got some Hi'speed 160's
That being said i am hella jealous of his 4.0TB's

nice! It's amazing the difference that a hard drive and more RAM can make for increased performance. Too many people base their entire assessment of a computer's speed on the processor - more often than not, a slow system is slow because the hard drive can't keep up and/or there's not enough RAM. Smart move on your part! What'd your Win7 Experience Index go up to?

its still stuck @ 3.9 due to my pentium D 820 (even OC'ed from 2.8 to 3.4), I've got a D930 waiting to go in. Until I can pop a quad-core in it I dont think it will move much. my 3870x2 has a 7.1 rating, and the HDD has a 5.6 (didnt change), although someone here with a SSD still got a 5.6 as well, so who knows whats up with that. I'll get a screenshot of it for ya later tonight
Congrats! Welcome to the 1TB+ club! (getting less and less exclusive by the day...I'll have to start a 5TB+ club now ;) )

I was worried about that too when I got my first 1.5TB WD Green (5900 RPM in that case, not 5400, but same difference really). However, because of the massive 500GB platters, the data density is so high that it impacts the performance a lot less; especially when you're coming from an older drive. I personally wouldn't want to run my OS off one, but for storage they're freakin awesome!

Heh. I should start a sub-500GB club. For those of us minimalists who prefer not to hang on to stuff :P although I actually have 620GB total...but I think I'm using...let's see...~60GB on my SSD and maybe ~180GB on my external. If I ever get the $$ to set up a movies-only PC, then we'll see about creating a 10TB+ club. :)

lol well at least the 820 has been replaced with a 930, stock 3.0, running @ 3.75 now :D
and that bumped my EI from 4.9 w/the 820 to 5.1 w/the 930 lol

Hah! 4400+ for me - it was free, very indirectly, so I can't complain! I don't do much gaming anymore, so I don't see myself upgrading for a while (well, maybe another two gigs of RAM).
Got a 1TB Green months ago. Love it. It's plenty quick as a storage drive and it's great not having to worry about downloads.

yeah, same here. my x2 and 8600gts plays all the games I want to play (pretty much). I have noticed it slowing down a lot lately though, (esp. compared to my laptop lol) and you cant be a self-respecting geek and have a laptop thats more powerful than your desktop! (ok, you can, I am just trying to justify shelling out money for a new computer when I have a perfectly good one sitting at home)

if y'all with the X2's have a OC motherboard, I oc'd my 4400+ to 3.0Ghz without problem, I'd guess it'd put it around a 6000+ X2 with less cache.
Hell actual 6000+ X2's go for 50$ now, or about that price.

yeah, I was stupid and let my ex-wife talk me into buying an HP instead of just doing what I wanted and building my own compy. so no overclocking here. Although my HP has done what it was supposed to do quite well :)

yea, them women can be pretty firm on some issues LOL
i'd say mobo swap on the cheap, but hell might as well just start on a new stack if your gonna do that.
i know for a fact, you can use Speedfan to manually overclock a vendor computer regaurdless of the provided hardware your using.
I've got a Dell dem 3000 that's oc'd to 3.1Ghz (P4 2.8Ghz HT) using speedfan.
Only downside is, its a soft clock, and not a hardware clock, so it'll jump frequencies every time it boots to windows, And you can't really pull super high OC's off that type w/o risking some damage.
But im sure you could jump that 4200/44 to 5800/6000+ speeds, I mean its the same core processor pretty much.
Just a thought though. :P
oh heres a link to the speedfan

I am soooo lucky I married a geek lover...
I tell her what computer and electronics devices we need and she fits them in the budget. Since I am upgrading my gaming system, she gets a new laptop first... (bribery much?)
