The only GPS I've had the pleasure of using was a Tom Tom when I was delivering furniture. was really nice, we named her Sheila.

Garmins are good I've owned several.

The 255 is the only one that you've linked that speaks the street names but all three do voice prompts.

You can compare models here.

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=134&compareProduct=13429&compareProduct=13432&compareProduct=13428

I'd go after the 205W for the screen size.

I will live by Garmin forever.

For me, it doesnt feel like a toy like the tom tom does when I use it.

I'd shoot for purchasing through newegg moreso than walmart....however I bought mine on Ebay and it worked just fine.

i did get the garmin 250 today i rode around all day just messing around was fun lol . I took all kinds of turns and twist was surprised how fast it rerouted .

I didn't think it would recognize all the pig trails they call roads around here but it does .
It does have a female voice i was kidding about the wife she doesn't care about the voices .
The only problem with it is its too good my wife is going to use it some.
her and a girl we go to church with that she also works with are going to start working with the youth group .
well it has a suction cup to put on the windshield and a stick on bottom to put it on the dash .
We thought this would be perfect my wife wants it on the dash and i want it on the windshield lol well that suction cup really "Sucks" .
It wont come off the windshield i know i can get it loose just thought that was funny as could be usually those thing never work for me .

The suction cup literally sucks. Mine broke after about a year which is why I bought the friction mount.

I did the delivery business when GPS systems were unavailable and cell phones were super expensive. I think you will probably use it for about six months before you learn the delivery area. Once you learn the area, you probably won't want to waste the time putting addresses into the GPS. But, a GPS would have been really nice at night, especially in those areas where the houses aren't labeled that well.

A cell phone would have been nice because some apartments have security gates and the phone operators wouldn't always get the customer's full name to pick from the list. If you're lucky you won't have any apartments where the gate is set up like that.

They've got GPS "cups"

its a plastic cup you mount your GPS to, and well.. it sits in your cup holder.

pretty convenient, easy to use n' transfer. and won't block off part of your windshield (illegal in oklahoma)

Can't even have stuff hanging from your rear view mirror here.

Some teenage girl had a bunch of them flowers and crap hanging from her rear view, and smashed some toddler down on a residential street. and she claimed that "her view was obscured"

well legislation solved that conundrum quick. now its 285$ if your pulled over with a obstructed windshield.

anyways, they've got clip style ones that mount under your rear view mirror as well. but thats more of a "i'm never going to move this again" style of attachment.

work super bowl sunday

If you live in Indianapolis or in New Orleans, the streets will be very clear. I live close enough to Dallas to be effected by a Cowboys super bowl.

They won the super bowl that year against the Bills, but at first they were a few points behind. Many customers ate me out like I had something to do with the scoreboard. The tip money improved and the verbal abuse lightened up when they started winning.

The streets aren't that crowded during the game anyway, but when the local team was in it, there were no other cars on the road.

there is one thing i have a question about sometimes it puts me in there driveway sometimes it misses a couple of houses some time it off quiet a few it still helps more than you can know .
Would a map pack update help with it getting closer to the houses ?
I know i have one free one i checked it was 2.1 gig for the update or is it normal for a gps tp be off a house or two ? thanks iin advance

I really doubt it. GPS maps usually don't have the exact house accuracy you really need.

Normal GPS has an accuracy of around +/- 10m. You can blame the Military for that.

Normal GPS has an accuracy of around +/- 10m. You can blame the Military for that.

That is not the case anymore. Lack of accuracy is usually due to a weak signal.

From Wikipedia:
Initially, the highest quality signal was reserved for military use, and the signal available for civilian use intentionally degraded ("Selective Availability", SA). This changed in 2000, with U.S. President Bill Clinton ordering Selective Availability (SA) turned off at midnight May 1 2000, improving the precision of civilian GPS from about 1000 feet to about 65 feet.

65 feet = 19.81200 meters

I haven't got my free map update downloaded yet it is 2.1 gig which might not be much for a GPS .
Only to be fair the area that i work in is considered a city area but still is very small and probably not done right nothing else is most of the time my gps is with in 100ft sometimes it put me at the door sometimes it will tell me turn right 200ft and it will be left about 400ft the other way.
There are lots of trees and thing that would block the signal in this area but it always shows full bars it is still a great asset either way

I wonder how they got the accuracy down to that level...

The US has improved GPS since May 1 2000 when they turned off Selective Availablity by adding improved signals.

http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/gps/modernization/default.htm

But, to really get within a few inches is to use a differential GPS. That is what surveyors use.

GPS can be very accurate if you can spend the money on one of those. But that accuracy isn't going to help Liquid with the map inaccuracies. The maps in those GPS devices are usually not precise enough to put you right on the front doorstep of a delivery.

+rep Liquid because I didn't know that Garmin had free map updates. It took all day to get it though. 8 hours to download the 2 GB executable, then running it took about two hours. The new streets around my house show up now.

The website tells you that you are only eligible if you register your device within 60 days of turning it on, but I've had much longer than that.

Good deal Man i just wish i could get mine too work i tried all the fixes and no luck that i found googleing it anyway.
I have gotten it sorta off working again i got he alabama and a few other states back in how did you get the exe tot he map installer or did you just run it ? i will really really rerep ya if you can help me with this its working again but with the old maps . i think

Xpirate

I just ran the exe and the dang thing took over two hours to run even with a super powered quad core.

The new "free" map update has made my GPS off by about 200 feet. With the original map I would see the car right on an intersection. Now it shows the intersection to be several hundred feet in front of me.

I will try to "fix" it with the help of Google. There may be a way to switch to the old map by using the settings.

I have never had or used a GPS of any kind but would like to get one to use in mt car. There are 3 on sale locally this weekend. They are Garmin Nuvi 255W for $128 (reg.$228), Garmin Nuvi 265T for $190 (reg. $300), and Magellan 1424 for $130 (reg. $250). Which would be best (easiest to use, newest maps, etc.) to buy or is there much difference in them? Would I be just as well off buying the cheapest?..

Thanks.

this the one i have its off about as much as everyone else is .
i tried a map update i probably messed that up myself but its all good now .
I had this one for a couple of days .

while i was working on updating the screen being bigger was nice had a couple more option but, the GPS part seemed about the same it was off pretty bad once . that was it

One thing i would recommend one with spoken street names .
That is so nice instead of just turn right i can listen and watch for the street .
I will say also one other thing for Garmin it is plug and play right out of the box very very easy to use user interface too me. Just make sure your kinda in the open when you first put it in you vehicle and its ready .

the Garmin Nuvi 265T has bluetooth... depending on local laws... it would help with hands free...
