I am trying to set up a sata hd... I have no clue what i am doing...

My rig-

pentium 4 3.0g chip
Abit AL8-v Mobo 775 socket
X800 ati radeon PCIe
SATA hd
cd burnern
dvd player
Floppy drive

okay so here is what i did.
I started the computer up looked at my BIOS settings all of it looked normal to me. so i put in the windows XP Pro disk and started everything up i hit F6 and tryed to set up the SATA RAID its starts to work and then nothing for like an hour.... and i have to restart my computer and jump the BIOS and start over!

So does anyone know what i am doing wrong? I REALLY REALLY WANT THIS TO WORK SO any help would be great!

Are you trying to set up the drive on a RAID configuration, or just as a second hard drive?

I don't think your hardware as it is can do it.

I may be wrong but I went to ABIT's webpage to look up your Motherboard and it doesn't list RAID capabilities as one of its featuires.

Is this your motherboard?

If it is I think you need to get a raid controller. Did you find anything in the BIOS for configuring RAID settings?

My machine (really old) has a server motherboard with a regular IDE controller and a separate Promise RAID controller built in. I have the optical drives on the regular controller and the HHDs set up as RAID 1.

I'm unfamiliar with SATA drives so please correct me if i'm wrong.
