Those are still used by a lot of people for Secure uploads for things like credit card authorizations.
Hotels use them a lot, so do fastfood places.

Lol. Why? I've never seen anything like that still in use. A lot of places, if not most, just encrypt the data they're sending and shoot it out through a DSL or other internet connection.
U.S. Robotics has been building the world’s best modems for over 25 years, and now we're bringing you the latest in modem technology. V.92 lets you send e-mail and attachments faster, get online quicker, and even take incoming phone calls without losing your Internet connection. Getting a better connection is as easy as the three-step installation procedure.
That thing looks like it IS the model they were making 25 years ago.

Because those programs need those specific pieces of hardware to run. You could stick some sort of bad ass lighting modem on there, but you'll need to code the program to accept that new hardware and make it work with the rest of the crap. A might task.
But don't ask me, i dont handle the software end of things, You call me when your crap needs installation, break down repair or maintenance. :P

We do the same thing. Ask me why I have a box of Pentium II Xeons. Go on, ask.

slap in some IBM Netfinity 5000 Root servers?
Ask me why we've got a pallet of SIMM ram lol.
I'll have to take pictures of our warehouse one day, you guys would s@#t a brick at the sheer amount of computers.
6-8' tall wood pallets each with 50+ computers, printers, LCD monitors, Servers network junk. Big old fridge sized boxes full of cables of any possible kind you could EVER think of.
haha im like a kid in a candy store.
I made a IBM Raven (Dual 1.2Ghz Pentium III processors w/ 3072MB RIMM 600) slapped ScSI Narrow cards in there and filled it up with 12 80GB drives.
lol i needed to jumper another IBM power supply to run all the ****. I've used so much power, if i try and install a PCI add-on card (i wanted another PCI video card) the computer won't boot....thats what im talking 'bout!!11
hahah i've got 1 AGP and 2 PCI 3dFX voodoo Banshee 32MB cards in there.
Man my bosses get pissed anytime they see that thing ("Chris thats like 3,500$ in inventory in that computer there.....")
hahaha...good times, good times

What companies are using 20+ year old software/hardware?..and why? I could understand the old 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' being applied here, but that excuse has an expiration date...and 20 years is well past it.
our place use some really old hardware and printers (Using serial) to do labels for food packaging, but to replace them with new upto date stuff costs almost 3 times the repair costs atm

them kind that support V-CD's?
I can look around but i doubt it, most everything we have has to deal with resteraunts and hotel work.
You see if theres any Super multi drives that support what you need? one of my old bosses had that same problem awhile back (like some years ago)

Well not really. Often enough programs like softPOS, NetPOS and HTM+R, are specifically designed to work with certain pieces of hardware. and changing ANYTHING can require hours of fiddlin with settings to get something as simple as a thermal printer to work.
plus you know, at least them computers are getting used, don't need a dual core with 4.0GB of ram to run a 1990's DOS based program hahaha.
Amazingly enough, people overseas buy these old 400-800mhz computers...
And use them for the overseas tech support centers y'all love so much.
we had some guy buy a whole shipping container (1,300~1,500) worth of CRT monitors. i guess he was going to turn them into televisions?!!?

you prob won't have one,
But i used to have one meny years ago, basicly it looked like a standard optical drive with a flap covering a slot loading system, but you could insert upto 5 cd's and it would hold them all internally but swap them round to read the disc you wanted, i just wanted another one again, i loved it
