It's a westinghouse, and it's a refurb, but this should be great for some of you that are in the market.

Quick edit. Apparently these have had some big issues. Hopefully it is resolved with the refurb, but buyer beware on this.

Actually, 300 cd/m^2 is fairly typical.

Related question - does anyone make a screen that's at least 3200 wide? I'd love to replace both my screens with a single screen, but I'd want at least 3200x1600 (my current combined res). Not that I have the $$ for it...

I'll second this - about 3 years ago I bought 2 20" 1600x1200 Samsungs for $210 apiece, refurb. Brand new at the time they were more than twice that, so I figured I was getting an incredible deal. When they arrived they were practically brand new, and the image quality was GORGEOUS (still is).

What I discovered though, was that if running them at full res on (at the time) a newer card like my Geforce 7950GT, the primary screen would slowly develop a persistent flicker. Made the computer totally unuseable after an hour or two. After a LOT of troubleshooting, I finally discovered that it wasn't the computer or card, it was the screen itself. There'd been a bad batch of them, some issue with timing, which is why they were refurbs. I'm sure the Samsung refurb testers pulled them out of the box, turned them on for a minute, saw they worked, no dead pixels, and pronounced them fit for resale. grr....
I bought a copy of Powerstrip, which I can use to make slight adjustments to the timing, and that pretty much clears up the issue, making my screens useable. But it took a LOT of time and effort to get there, and as it is, everytime I change cards or OS (now using Windows 7 and a 285GT and adjusted timings don't work at ALL, they make it bluescreen, but it seems to be the secondary now that flickers...weird), the prior powerstrip settings no longer work and I have to start experimenting again. So. On a refurb, do your research BEFORE you buy. :D

Without stepping into the $5,000+ (primarily medical imaging) market, you're not gonna find anything over 2560x1600 (WQUXGA). And that res you're only gonna find in 30" panels, and I've never seen one below $1,000.

The 1080 screens are getting cheaper and cheaper, but I really like the 1200 screens. It really stinks though because 1080 has gained a lot of momentum.

I haven't compared the 2 side by side. Is there a big difference or is it more of a "my stick is bigger then yours" kinda thing. lol

Kinda both, imo. ;) With 1920x1080, you obviously lose 120 pixels off the bottom, so there is legitimately less screen real estate. That being said, I think the reason a lot of people want 1920x1200 screens is just because they like the 16:10 ratio better (for any number of reasons). Personally I rather like the 16:9 ratio because 16:9 video looks better on it (no black bars), and if you get one of the weird 2048x1152 panels, you actually get a bit more screen real estate than 1920x1200.

Makes sense with the resolution. Just didn't know how visible that slight difference would make for a full screen image other then slightly stretching it one way or the other. I think I will stick with the monitor I am hopefully getting. 23" 1080p Samsung for $200

Unless you're specifically going for the 1080p resolution, if you can find one, I would highly recommend the Samsung SyncMaster 2343 instead. It's a 2048x1152 panel, so you get a fair bit more screen real estate, but it's still only ~$200.

Tough call. Other then the higher Res. The refresh is 3ms faster and the Dynamic contrast is "30,000" more... for what that is actually worth. I do like the 2343 better especially how it looks and the stand looks more solid. I wish I had seen it sooner. Sam's 1yr after manufacturer warranty is only 15bucks and I don't have to wait for shipping. If i didn't already sell my current one. I would have went with that. Nice find. It is still avail on Tigerdirect. I do have a bluray player installed, so the 1080p will still be nice.

No. The whole point of the thread is to find some monitor deals. +1 from me.

A Westinghouse oven maybe, but an LCD? I wouldn't trust anything like that from them.

I had a CRT tv that was pretty swell from westinghouse. I wouldn't not get an lcd from them. :P
