Fans use only a tiny amount of power. a 120mm fan uses around 1.8 Watts of power. (12V * 0.15 amps) Here is a chart (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d140/Forvak/powerchart.jpg) that shows approximate power usage of other components. You can actually go a long ways on a small power supply. What this chart doesnt cover is all of the biggest and best CPUs and GPUs. Athlon 64 x2 and similar can suck up to 110 Watts. Here is a chart (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d140/Forvak/cc3c68cb.gif) that shows the latest grapics cards and their power consumption. Its scary that these GPUs can draw up to 120Watts. Fortunatly they arn't going to be used that much all of the time!

Useful information, helping to put a cap on this "We need power" hype that'sgoing about at the moment-but that chart is pretty dated, where did you get that? It's pretty far off by today's standards i'd say. Well...not by too much.

I would think so, I was able to power an 80mm case fan by splicing into a USB plug which only supplies +5V and I forget how many amps, but it's not many. I used it to move air through a laptop stand I'm working on so I wouldn't have to add an additional power source. They actually use a very small amount of energy.
