I had vodka and Earl Grey the other night. it ended very poorly. I don't remember half the night. Was my first time with hard liquor and i think I drank way to much (I'm a light weight, four-five beers and I'm good for the night.) I looked the next day and apparently i drank 3/4 of the bottle. I woke that morning sleeping on a pile of clean laundry with very little memory of the previous night. I do not think I'll be doing the vodka thing again anytime soon. And trust me this is just keeping the story pretty, what i do remember wasn't good.
I haven't been in the mood for alcohol at all since even though i have some Sierra Nevada Porter on hand.

vodka and tea? I think I'll keep my 7up thank you. ugh. lol no wonder why you ended up in the dryer with your clothes! ;)
Earl Grey is much better with rum, imo. ;)
Lately though, I found a new favorite...I forget the name exactly, I think it's Sam Adams California Wheat (it's Sam Adams something wheat). Great full-bodied flavor without too much bitterness.

Sam Adams Coastal wheat, tastes very similar to a bavarian beer "Hernnbrau" made while I was living there. It's a normal wheat beer with a splash of lemon.
VERY crisp tasting beer.

yes, vodka stopped being my friend about 6 months ago. the last time i had some was at a wedding, when i was doing a little bit of bartending. it seems i served myself a drink everytime someone asked for one.
i got severe alcohol posing from memory loss, hypothermia, puking (which i don't normally do), slurred speech.
normally when i drink vodka, i get a bit of depression the next morning which lasts for about 8-12 hours. that time at the wedding it lasted 3 days.

When we go camping in NH we go to this little BBQ place and they've got a brown ale called Pig's Ear on tap. Quite good, and goes great with the BBQ. I can't find it anywhere else except random places in NH though.
As for what's in the house now:
-A random grab bag 6-pack from Trader Joe's. Some interesting beers in there. A lot of them have a lot of different spices and such, which some I like, others not so much.
-If I am given a choice for beer I usually grab Michelob Ultra. Coors Light when at Friday's (2.50 beers). Picked up some Pomegranate Raspberry Michelob Ultra, which was tasty. Not much of a beer flavor, but decent when its cold. I prefer the regular Ultra, but the fiance liked the PomRas so it won't go to waste, and will probably make a couple appearances in the fridge randomly.
-A couple bottles of vodka (one from my 21st almost 2 years ago, lol).
-Half handle left of Captain.
-Almost finished bottle of Disaronno
-Bottle of Goldschlager from hanging out with my cousin.
I don't drink much at all so it takes forever for anything to get drank (drunk? Have no clue, lol).

If one were to choose between two things more or less equally harmful, one would say: "Pick your poison."
"I do not know Whether to smoke myself to death or drink myself to death."
"Pick your poison!"
In your example, the speaker expresses an ironic way that the rooms of journalists are as dangerous as the fields of war.

Hmm...where do I start?
Summer and fall: Sam Adams Summer Ale, Bud Light Lime, Wild Blue, Patrone or Sauza Tequila
Winter and Spring: Bud Light Wheat, Bud Light, Sam Adams Boston Lager, Makers Mark on the rocks or Crown and Coke
Year round: Kendal Jackson Chardonnay, Barefoot Merlot, Jim Beam or Jack Daniels, and the occasional mimosa at a tailgate.

There is a grocery store here that does the mixed 6 packs for $8.95. I buy one every time I am in there. There are some pretty good stuff out there. My favorite find so far is Wild Blue. Its a fermented blueberry beer. Not a girly beer either. It actually taste like beer mixed with blueberry wine.
I used to love Mich. Ultra but it became hard to find a "fresh" pack around here. Most had born on dates at least 2-3 weeks old and I like very fresh beer.

When I am out what ever is cheap and on tap.
At home Heinken.
I also have a Jack and Coke every now and again at the start of the night.
Once a month a get myself a nice bottle of single malt, spend about $60 on it and really enjoy it

My poison of choice is always vodka. At one time I had roughly 30 different kinds. (Now I just have a lot of different empty bottles)
What I have in my liquor cabinet;
Gentleman Jack,
Jack Daniels,
Jager,
Wild Turkey,
Peach Schnapps,
3 different kinds of Absinthe,
Seagrams NO 7,
Ameretto,
Jose Cuervo gold,
Alize,
Triple sec,
Kahlua, (gotta have my white Russians)
and a handful of vodkas, including Crystal Head (looooove that!), Stoli, Chopin, Belvedere, Grey Goose, Blavod, VOX, UV cherry.... I think thats about it
Ameretto....

I constantly have Blackthorn Cider on tap. It will cure what ails you. It is my alcoholic drink of choice for most occasions.
My favorite hard alcohol is Single Malt Scotch. All kinds. I love just about every one I have ever tasted.
Beer of choice is my own home brew (the best thing Jimmy Carter did for the US), but when I am not brewing, I will drink just about anything besides American lagers (coors, bud, miller, etc). i like my beer to have color and flavor. Funny thing is that before my operation to fix a deviated septum, I LOVED hoppy beers. Now I can't stand them.
I also love a GOOD port. My Mother-in-law buys me a decent bottle of port for my birthday every year. I love her for it.

make sure you use a bubbler... lol when i was 16 or so i got the bright idea to make my own if i can't buy it. so i get an old juice bottle, some sugar, water and some baking yeast. perfect! i let it sit for a day and when i looked at it the bottled was bulged like crazy. so i opened and and BOOM! yeast, water and sugar on the ceiling lol. but for some reason my parents did hear it or say anything. i guess there used to me playing with stuff like that by now lol.

Well it was about the time that Absolut Mandarin was introduced so I got a 5th or half gallon I don't remember and a 2 liter of sunkist. Well at the time I had another vice and my zippo was out of fluid. So ran to the store to stock up on smokey treats and lighter fluid. In my haste to light said smokey treat and the fact that I was slightly inebriated I did not smell the lighter fluid that had leaked and covered my entire hand. The series of events that followed went like this: flick spark spark OH SH** a;jdfaovi akjsdf;kasdn !!@#)(#$&@). followed by soaking my hand in whole milk for the next four hours in complete misery.

I must admit im a huge fan of Gin. Gin, lemonade and possibly a dash of orange juice. Gives me the worse hangovers ever though!
All the talk of beer is really making me fancy a few pints (big lager fan!), but i have kinda quit drinking since new years eve. The reason being is i desperately needed to quit smoking, and i would do it and be fine up until i went out drinking, after about half a pint, i would literally kill someone for a cigarette!

I'm a cocktails and beer kind of guy. If there's no good beer, then I tend to stick with my cocktail standard: vodka/cranberry.
After doing too much heavy drinking and shots in college (and before), I tend to stay away from straight shots now. Every now and then you'll catch me doing a shot of jaeger (or a bomb), but it's few and far between.

OK, Well I guess the statute of limitations has run out...
Many many years ago, while I was in the Navy, some friends and I took a trip to Tijuana Mexico for some food and drinks. Basically we wanted to get hammered and had never partied in Mexico before. The 3 of us took the trolley to the border and headed into Mexico. For the sake of anonymity, my friends names are: Cull and Bel. We all stop at an indiscreet taco stand where all the locals are standing in line. It gets to be our turn and we order up a dozen taco's of various fillings. Hot sauce? "Yes Please!" That was the first mistake and started the early deterioration into Tequila madness.
Now I am no wimp when it comes to hot food, but that sheet was downright toxic. To top it off, it was some creeper hot sauce. The kind that waits until you are completely finished eating and comes out of no where to kick you in the gut, and sends molten fire rushing back up from your stomach to burn everything in it's path including your nose hairs, lips, gum's and teeth. I remember feeling like my whole head was just going to burst into flames. I look over and both my bud's are having the same issue and all 3 of us are doubled over with tears pouring down our face. We RUN to the nearest cantina (which also happens to serve up favors from the girls...) and order a Carona. Nothing. Fire still there, barely able to talk. Bartender sees our plight and says "Try these" as he pours 3 shots of some now forgotten brand of Agave. That helped a little so we ask for another round. Cool, another Carona and another shot. Not bad. The fire is out, but the burning is still lingering. I know! Another round!
Well, Cull has been eying what has been going on in the back of the bar and decides he wants to get some action. He downs his shot and grabs his beer and heads off to get the hitch polished. From where we were sitting we could hear everything going on in the room where Cull was. "NO TEETH!" was the first thing that I heard then some other noises and then a slap and a window breaking! Turns out the girl bit him! Cull came running from out of the back, while still zipping his pants and kept heading for the door. I threw some cash at the bartender and we took off after him. He tells us what happened ( which we already knew) and assures us he did not hurt the girl, she knocked a lamp through the window as he pushed her off of him. Apparently that is not the story she told the cops.
We take off running and fade into the crowd. Next stop? Dinner. We found a restaurant that looked good and head inside. We order drinks, what else? Tequila! and then some dinner. Took about an hour and we finished dinner and a couple more beers and shots. When we step outside, there are several Mexican Police wandering around and they turn and point at us (OK so we do stand out a little since my friend Bel and I are 6'2" and Cull is 6' and built like Hulk Hogan), so we do what any normal person would do and RUN! Not sure why we ran since I didn't do anything wrong, but we got caught up in the excitement. We turned a couple of corners and slip into another bar. More Tequila! Several more shots and beers later we once again head outside. The Sun is not down yet, but the light is starting to fade. We head into another bar (trying to stay off the street just in case), and order more tequila.
I started noticing that the better the tequila, the better the taste so by now we are ordering the good stuff. We must have been in that bar a couple hours because when we left the sun was down and it was mostly dark. Plus we were really starting to get a good buzz on. More so than we understood apparently since we walked right into a group of police and they realized they were looking for us before we realized they were cops. Busted! My heart sank due to all the stories I have heard about sailors going to Mexican prison and never being heard from again. We tried to run, but between all the alcohol (mostly tequila) and the cops being right there, we got nowhere and were promptly cuffed and thrown into the back of a police cruiser. Bel and I were in one car and Cull was in another. There was only one cop in each car when we finally headed out to the police station. That is where we thought we were going but we were wrong. I had never been to Mexico so I had no idea where we were headed, but apparently Cull did. He kept looking out the back window at our car shaking his head and trying to mouth something. Never found out for sure what it was, but he was obviously worried.
About half an hour later we ended up in some field close to the border. We could see the lights from the freeway, but I had no idea where we were. The cars pulled to a stop and Cull was freaking out in the car in front of us. The driver of our car did not seem to notice or care so he turned to us and said something abusive about being gringo's and we'll pay. He got out and started to open Bel's door about the time that we saw the other cop let Cull out of the car and Cull kicked him square between the legs. HARD. I saw the cop go down and Bel kicked his door open, knocking the other cop down. Bel jumped out and kicked the cop in the crotch and as I was trying to shuffle out of the car I saw Cull take off running. Down he went. When he got back up he was covered in mud and had his hands in front of him. Bel and I were running fast now, but running with your hands cuffed behind your back is not easy. I too went down and struggled to get my hands in front of me. I managed to step through my cuffed hands, got up and took off again towards the freeway lights. Wrong way. I saw Cull headed in another direction and started following him. It took us a couple of minutes and we made the fence. That sucker seemed 20 stories high but I leapt at the fence and climbed for my life. I made it through the barbed wire (still have the scars) and got as far from the fence as I could before looking back to see Bel stuck in the barbed wire. Cull was helping him out and then they caught up with me. HOME FREE!
Not quite. Border patrol. Turns out they had been sitting up on a small hill watching everything. They saw the cop cars pull up, saw Cull immobilize the first cop and saw all of us climbing the fence. They put us in the back of the SUV and headed out. Great, we managed to avoid being sent to Mexican prison and/or being robbed by the Mexican police only to end up in trouble with the Fed's for illegally crossing the border. To top it off our ship was heading out the next day for WestPac and if we were not on the ship we would be charged with being AWOL and sent to military prison after we finished serving time for crossing the border illegally. Great.
To our surprise the Border Patrol drove straight to the bus park and ride close to the border. They were having a good time at our expense telling us how long we would be in prison for crossing illegally and how they were required to notify the Navy about our little "incident". Well it turns out they were having fun with us and when we got to the bus station, they proceeded to tell us how they had seen the whole thing and we were fortunate that no one got shot and that the cops were only going to rob us and leave us in the field without any ID so we had to fend for ourselves to get back into the US. They laughed for a bit, then took off one side of the handcuff's (I was amazed they had a key to fit. Are they all that similar?), telling us they wanted us to have to explain to our Master at Arms how we ended up with cuffs on in the first place. Cull was able to pick the other cuff while we were on the bus and we made the trip back to the ship without any incidents. The next morning after we had gotten underway, my Master Chief came to me and told me that the ship had gotten a call from Border Patrol asking if we had made it back to the ship on time. We ended up having to explain the call, but "neglected" to tell them the whole story. I got sheet for my Tequila binge for the next 6 months while we were underway and did not drink any more tequila for many years after that. I have NEVER got drunk on tequila since.
I know, long story. Thanks for reading...

Awesome!
My tequila story, while not quite as entertaining, was pretty good too.
16 years old, heading to a party. I've always looked older than I am, so I've never had trouble in the liquor stores. Even at 16. ;) I had a 26 (umm.. a fifth I think you Americans would call it) of Sauza Tequila, and a bottle of orange juice. We walked to a friends place for a house party, and since his parents were out of town, it turned into a really out of control bash. A "wrecker" as we call it up here.
Well, I'm almost done my bottle of tequila, and his parents drive up the driveway. 90 people scatter out of this small mobile home, and it's chaos. A few friends and I sprint down the road and head back towards town (house party was just on the outskirts), when the police roll up to us. I look at my nearly empty bottle of tequila, and say goodbye, then toss it as hard as I can over my back into an empty field before the police get too close and see it. With a tear in my eye, I expect to hear a CRASH when the bottle lands and shatters... but instead I heard BONK! It landed without breaking! Score... I'll retrieve it later.
Imagine if you will, 5 kids, ages 15-16, all VERY wasted, and speaking to a police office who is sitting in his car. I can barely stand at this point, so I'm leaning against the cars rear quarter panel, and I start picking at a decal... riiiiiiiiip... off it comes. Whoops!
The office doesnt even notice, he's busy asking one of my friends where his shirt went to. :)
Tequila did bad things to all of us that night.. I drank the most, but didnt get sick. :) I went back to retrieve that bottle later that evening.. but couldnt find it until a few days later. Tried to drink it (was mixed with OJ in the bottle), and got HELLA sick.

Terry that story made my day!!!! Lukes was pretty good also.
Tequila has always been my spirit of choice and I handle it pretty well. I do have one story though and its not much to tell other than a friend (Jason) and I were at a bar right after graduation. We ordered a bottle of Patron to celebrate and after an hour or so we had finished it. So we start on shots of Jose and by now we are so lit that I am randomly humming the tune of some song. These 2 girls we know walk in the bar and when they see us they come over. A little background on them. Jessica was about 5'5" 110lbs and pretty damn good looking. Erin her friend was about the same height but had to be pushing 180-200lbs as she was about as wide as she was tall. Jessica and I had hung out before and had a few classes together so we kinda paired up we we moved to a booth. So since I am not yet drunk enough I begin ordering rounds of tequila shots for all of us and we were at the bar for another hour or so so I estimate we had 5-6 more shots each. I remembering the bartender taking my keys and calling us a cab and some how we all ended up back at my place. I remember snuggling up to Jessica on the couch and that's it. My apartment was on the bottom floor and faced the parking lot. So I wake up the next morning and I am as naked as the day I was born with Erin beside me on the couch fully clothed but she is wearing my shirt. On my coffee table is a bottle of Absolute that is 3/4 empty and several empty beer bottles. Oh and did I mention that the blinds to all 4 windows are wide open and anyone walking in the parking lot can see me in all my fat naked...er I mean chiseled body of the gods glory..... So I get up and Jason is no where to be found, Jessica is in my bed almost naked and Erin is still on the couch.
When Jessica woke up she said that we came back and drank vodka shots for a while and Jason had drank some beer and wound up getting sick and having a friend pick him up. So some time in the night I had suggested playing strip poker and was not doing very well. Apparently I was showing them my cards. I lost every hand. Jessica went to bed in my bed after I passed out on the couch. Erin must have passed out beside me or at least I hope thats what she did.
That night was the only time I have not remembered the entire chain of events from the drunken night before. That was also the last time I drank heavily.
Moral of Terry's, Luke's, and My story? Some of the best times are had while intoxicated on tequila.

hahaha awesome stories guys!
I don't have too many good stories on tequila, as it usually makes me sick if I drink it with anything else (beer or liquor)... So I tend to shy away from the vile liquid. lol

I can't have anything to drink until I get another set of blood tests. My last set for when I was pretty sick came back as showing me as a raging alcoholic on my liver tests. I'm lucky if I have one beer every week or two. . .
So, no drinks until I get another blood test, that way the doctor can't blame it on me drinking. She seems to think I'm an alcoholic as that's what the blood tests suggest, even though I keep telling her I hardly drink.
Maybe it's just a lab mistake, or maybe it is something bad . . . we shall see. Until then the few bottles of Guinness and couple other beers in the fridge have been driving me nuts, especially during certain meals where it would just be tasty.

And oh god, every time I touch honey bourbon liqueur, crazy **** happens. The obvious reason is that you can drink it like lemonade.... but it's almost whiskey strength....

only lose 5% to give it an even smoother taste... my favorite description is DANGEROUSLY good. My wife couldn't even smell it on my breath she thought I had a peanut butter and honey sandwich before I came to bed.

I will find pictures of what happened on my birthday once, I drank quite a lot of it, was frying some steaks in butter and rather a lot of Evan Williams... enough to create a 4 foot flame and do some interesting melting damage to my friend's extractor hood...
I've had the Evan Williams and Wild Turkey versions, but never the JD, didn't even know they made one. This may interest you:
The Bumhole:
1. Mix 1 part amaretto, 2 parts honey bourbon liquer, 2 parts baileys, 3 parts chocolate milkshake in a glass
2. Enjoy your glass of liquid ecstacy
