Besides my Eee Netbook, does anyone know of any regular laptops with a matte screen? Shiny screens are the worst idea ever! I'm tempted to buy an older laptop that still has the matte screen and upgrade it as much as possible for gaming.

I don't know any off hand but I feel your pain.
I have a MSI Gaming Laptop, my friend has an Acer Gaming Laptop and my other friend has a Gateway Gaming Laptop; all glossy screens.

It looks nice and all but it's more hassle than its worth some times.

I think my Dell Inspiron isn't to shiny, its the 8500 and it was able to handle WoW on full graphics.

Are there any older Alienware's maybe with GeForce 6600's with matte screens? I know my old IBM Thinkpad had a matte screen and could go to 2GB of RAM. If it only had graphics that could support Oblivion

Dude get you an Dell inspiron xps first gen, i have pretty much the same thing in a 17 inch inspiron 9300 and it has played every game I have ever thrown at it. Best part is they are going on ebay for around 300 dollars last time I looked.

Pretty much any business laptops will have a matte screen. Dell Latitudes, Lenovo Thinkpads, Panasonic Toughbooks. I think the 17" MacBook Pro lets you choose a matte finish (for more $$). And I think a lot of Asus' stuff have matte screens. Basically though, stick with a business line and you'll almost definitely be good.

Well with no high speed internet and such I have a limited set of games that I play. Crysis never really piqued my interest but i have played alot of modern games on that dell without any issues. To be perfectly honest if I hadnt of grown out of the 17 inch monitor(battery killer and a PITA to carry around) and the battery being shot i would still carry it, but for all I do on a laptop I carry a 1005ha Asus which serves my purposes in a laptop.

My primary laptop is my Asus 1000HE. I just want something for decent gaming on the rare times I take trips

Actually, funny story...that would almost work. Since most glossy laptop screen are actually matte screens with a glossy layer stuck on top, you could take it off and have a matte screen. I've seen it done with 7" netbooks, but nothing bigger.

Lol that sounds so risky. I personally love glossy screens though. Matte screens aren't THAT much better in the sun anyway so whats with all the hate? Maybe im missing something (or I just need to step out of my dungeon and in to the light once in a while.)

I was facing the same dilemma as that of yours. Since I hate glossy screens, just can't stand the reflection. The two models I was deciding between were the Inspiron 1520 (they have one matte model) and the Sager NP2090.You can opt either if them. Both of them have good features.

now that i look..

Asus Eeepc = Semi satin
HP G60 = Semi satin
HP dv6000m = Gloss
Dell D410 = Semi satin

looks like i lucked out.

i think the whole idea behind the gloss finish... it's easier to clean (finger prints, gunk, sneeze blasts) then the semi-satin finishes?

I don't think so. That stuff is much less noticeable on matte screens, and they're not really much harder to clean. I think the original idea was that it would make video viewing better..or something.
