Hello all, thought id throw my few pics in of a machine i built last year to take down to the I36 event. Not so much a mod as a bit of tidying with a few drill holes.

This was the mess i started with:

A couple of holes through the back plate of the Cosmos 1000 and i could hide most of my shame:

Replaced the crappy Triton? cpu fan i had got in desperation when non standard 1366 fans were thin on the ground with a noctua heatsink and a nifty little programmable 120mm fan i found on the nets:

Another shot of the slightly tidier internals:

Then fitted a couple of UV lights:

Rediculously expensive and hard to find CM side panel on and ready to go geek it up at the iseries:

And after all my hard work i was able to take a machine down to the LAN that i could be proud of and be hailed king of the geeks. And as you can see it was all totally worth it as i really got to show the machine off:

lol looking at the title I thought you had modded your computer into a chair or your computer desk into a standing desk or some such nonsense. lol good work on the cable management looks good and I lol'd at your description of your computer.

Thanks for the comments guys, thinking about it the soundcard was an Auzen X-Meridian 7.1. Which has since croaked.

I have since shifted case to a Sileo 500 and changed a few bits of the hardware.

I might have some sort of disease or something but after cramming all this stuff into the Sileo (windowless case, no cable management short of stuffing wires into the bays) i am getting increasingly annoyed knowing that theres a rats nest in there.

Im contemplating busting out some power tools and trying to create some sort of harmony in there and would like to add a window at some point. I have searched this site and others, is there a step for step quide on fitting a sidepanel window?

im assuming you mean a custom window. There are a few things to think about, how will you be mounting it, (some people like using locking automotive window mounting, some just mount the window material by securing it behind the cut).

1) figure out how you want your window to look, keep in mind that it might look better to have a smaller window than a huge honker that leaves nothing to the imagination

2) when you have designed the window check how it will work (a big piece of paper and an exacto blade are my normal tools :) ) make sure it only shows you what you want to see on the inside

3)mask the living crap out of the panel to be cut.. i mean it, it saves you from having to repaint the case if you slip a little, and makes it easier to see the lines on the tape.

4) take your trusty dremel tool with cut off wheels ( or laser/water/cnc cutter) and go to work. Cut slightly inside of your lines, because its always easier to take a file to it than it is to have to re design on the fly. Always cut on the back of the panel, (the side that dosnt show) so if you do slip you avoid the fun of repainting.

5) file the jagged edges on the metal, and finish off with a good smoothing down with some sandpaper. i usually start with 80, then 120, then 240, then finish off with a little 400.

6) there are a few things to think about here, if you want to paint the interior of the case, if you want to leave the silver of the cut metal showing. There are a few tricks to cover it up, like a black sharpie.

7) start fitting the acryllic, if you want to use window molding you have some tougher work cut out for you because you have to make it roughly the same size as the hole in your case and be very precise. If you use the mount behind method you just cut the acryllic and use some bolts, silicone sealant, or other strong adhesive that can bond to metal and plastics.

8) look at the inside of your computer

9) dismantle computer because of the sudden realization that you can now see your cables looking like spaghetti noodles all over

10) think about adding some lighting, or other things to show off your hard work inside and out

Note
Windows do not always have to be square! some of the coolest windows i've ever seen aren't. Look at other mods on the site to get some ideas. My 2 favorites are the refleXion (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21443) mod by xion x2, and the apeture science (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19237) mod by ultraflip.

happy modding!

ps, should i post this in the tutorial section? is there anything i forgot?

You can find some basic kits such as this Hellfire Red Windows+Mod kit (http://www.directron.com/winkitred.html). It includes what you need to make a basic window. Of course you can design fancier shapes or designs if you don't find something that fits your mod.

Hello again, heres a quick update on my machine and what turned out to be a rebuild. I decided to scrap the sileo altogether and get a case that gives a few more options

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4021/4402422160_12813cfc39.jpg

Enter the pure black CM 690

Here is the old sileo which was making me twitch

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2697/4402553308_2efebd7b6e.jpg

i wont bore you with the details of a case change but heres how it turned out

So, liking the new case i decided to go for something i have never really taken seriously before

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4046/4405523683_816e9638ce.jpg

This is the result of my first shot at watercooling without spending silly money, i found it to be a lot of fun.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4034/4406697137_2147f2af89.jpg

The radiator was the only significant hurdle in all this, i really wanted a stealth look and did not want to mod the case that much. Using a black ice stealth GT 240 and some slim line 120mm fans i was able to get it in there. just.

Nifty little pump / res combo

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4038/4406699239_a7c5a09039.jpg

The Uv reactive coolant seems to be working, i have more cathodes to fit but ran out of time and patience, will revisit that soon.

So this year i have something new (to me anyway) to take to tha lans!

Looks nice. Thats kinda funny because I had a friend with a Cosmos that decided to replace it with a 690.
