My wife uses a Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7815 laptop, or at least she did up until yesterday. First the keyboard stopped responding, so she shut it off. Now the screen won't even light up. The power, battery and wireless lights light up, there's power to the (inoperative) DVD drive, the hard drive spins but no display, not even a POST.

This was our first laptop and I am frankly lost. If it won't even light up I'm at a loss as to how to troubleshoot it, or honestly if it's even worth it. I'm thinking I may be time ahead to rip the hard drive out of it and build her a nice small desktop.

Anyone have any laptop repair/troubleshooting/voodoo/sacrifice experience?

(Further specs on he machine can be found here (http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satellite-L355D-S7815-Athlon-Premium/dp/B001J1UCUC) if needed.)

Thanks!

did you try it without the battery? I had a laptop battery die on me and it did some wonky things with the laptop.

I have not tried that, I'll check that when I get home, thanks very much! I also realized that it has a VGA port on it, so I assume I can connect an external monitor to it to see if I get any display there.

Disconnect all power and hold in the power button for 30 seconds to clear everything. I fixed up a laptop by doing that. good luck

+1 on removing the battery. I've also had luck with completely stripping all the devices from the laptop (ram, hdd, odd, wifi, even reseating the CPU if possible) then starting with just memory to see if it posts. :)
