f you are one of those few folks who want the best of the best, no matter the cost, then the upcoming W555 motherboard from EVGA certainly looks worthy of your consideration. For the rest of us, we can only imagine what it would be like to have such a beast powering our desktop.

For starters, the W555 is a dual-socket LGA1366. The versatile X58 motherboard can support a mix-and-match of different types of processors even, just as long as they are from the same family (Westmere, Nehalem, etc) and will scale performance accordingly. You can change many CPU settings independent of the CPU, such as to use turbo boost or not.

Would something like this require 2 loops? :D

You could run 16 threads on to core i7's. And 4 gpu's imagine running fold or seti on that bad boy.

True, but take it from someone who's working with a dual CPU dual GPU setup, it's not cheap AT ALL.

MSRP for a single one of my processors for my renderer is 985 USD. I've 300+ in RAM, double the coolers, and a power supply that can swing it (Mine is yet unreleased, so I'm not at liberty to say except for expensive.) That setup requires pretty much dual PSUs, as well as just as expensive processors, etc. Then, that board will be 500+. You see where this is going.

Yes, it wins fastest. At what price?

Neg rep me if you want, but will it play Crysis at max settings? :P

i7's will not run in a dual cpu setup. Only xeons have the ability to run in multiple cpu setups.

Actually not that tough a job anymore. ;)

For absolute ridiculousness though, I'd like to see them make a dual-CPU version of this 7 PCIex16 board.

I read that this is good for setting world records, which it has, but that performance in games isn't necessarily better than what's out there. For some reason I couldn't find this video link on EVGA's site and had to go through my history: http://www.evga.com/articles/00501/

Yes, in gaming all that extra hardware is largely wasted. I think Crossfire is a little ahead of SLI atm, with around a 40-50% scaling rate. Where those 7 x16 slots (and 64 PCIe lanes) come in really handy is doing GPGPU calculations. Since you run each card individually (ie, not in SLI/CFX), the full power of each card is used, and if the application is written properly, it will scale at 100%. However, not everything can be adapted well to take advantage of GPGPU processing power, thus the desire for a dual-CPU 7x PCIex16 board. Granted, the thing would be huge, but hey, that's the price we pay for ridiculous performance. :P

You're telling me.

Of course, who else here has an octal core setup, I ask?
