Hi! I hope that Im not being a pain asking for so much advice but I need to make sure that what I am buying is right for me as I am from the uk and plan to buy in the states when I go to SD to see my brother at easter! (the price difference is HUGE)

So heres what Im planning to get

Evga 7800GTX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130254

ABIT GD8 intel mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127204

Now, at the moment I only have an old 350w psu, and the system requirements of the 7800gtx say a minimum of a 450w psu is needed. I need the mobo as I am currently agp.
My question is, what do I need to look for in a power supply to ensure that it will work with my existing components? Could anyone reccomend one from www.newegg.com ? My budget is basicly mid-range. I want to get a reliable psu which isnt too loud and will last me a long time. It would also be preferable if all of the cables came sleeved! but that isnt absolutely neccesary! PLEASE help me with this as I dont want to make the wrong decision and waste my money on something which wont work!
Cheers!

like bartvandenberg said antec make some solid psus.

theres an even cheaper one that ive had good experience with that i think might suit ur needs and has an even better price! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103937
or if uve had a bad experience with antec and want something else (ive never heard of anyone disliking antec by the way) u could go with this enermax its a little more, but is also sli compatible, and dishes out a little more power(another company i like and trust)

This seems perfect for me! I had not seen this kind of modular system before, but it seems perfect for me as I only have one hard drive and no cd drive so I don't need hundreds of molexes and a big tangle of wires coming out of my psu like I do at the moment! Thanks for the suggestion! :)
One question though; what is the 3pin power thingy for? It is like a fan power plug.. I cant work out what it could be for! :S
Cheers again!

Other side notes .. Since today they released the 7900 Brand of cards you might want to see if you want to switch from the 7800 to that. Prices are close to the same..

The 3 pin plug is for fans that is if its the one I think your talking about.

eek! I just checked out the prices on the 7900s and theyre too high for me! I dont think that the extra price will realy be worth it in the end anyways as the 7800gtx plays all of my games exceptionaly well according to the reviews that I have read! :) The 3pin plug is the permanent one coming out of the psu with the main mobo connectors. It cant be for a fan because it's a female plug!

Well I come bearing great news (for me anyway!) I waited until my mum had been to dinner at a friends house, and as i suspected she was pretty tipsy although she denied it! This put me in the perfect situation as she was tipsy enough to agree to order my hardware tomorrow (even though I only have 1/3 of the cash!!!) and she cant blame it on being drunk when she realises what shes done tomorrow morning, as she denied having drunk any alcohol! :D
This means that I am definately going to be getting the psu, mobo and gfx card! I just need somebody to check over and confirm that they are compatible and im not missing something!
So heres what im getting:

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813127204

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817103937

Graphics card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130254

As soon as somebody can confirm that they are compatible with each other and with my system (see sig) I will place the order! :)

Thanks for your help! :)

no no no the 7900gt is 300 dollars and is better than a 7800gtx thats 150 off what you are planning to get for that vid card

otherwise id say your good to go, but i would suggest a 550 watt as opposed to 500. I like to have a little bit of breathing room(with the money you save from what ive said above, you could easily afford one)

Ok, so me being me I have decided that I want the best. So I have decided to go for a 7900GTX. Here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150143

Although I saw something which might be a problem. It says in system requirements that it needs a

A 400W PCI Express complaint system power supply (with 12V current rating of 26A or more)
The psu that I am planning to get has:

+12V1@17A, +12V2@19A,
Does the system requirement for the gfx card mean overall? or per rail? Do I have to choose a different psu? :( Because as I have said before I cant afford to get something only to have it not work! :D
Cheers

Yeah I did consider it, but after a lot of careful consideration I decided that due to my experience with NVIDIA products being far more pleasing than that with ATI products, I decided to stay true to NVIDIA and go with the 7900GTX

I also decided that as I have become a great fan of gigabyte's products, It would be a safe bet to go with the gigabyte card rather than the MSI.
I also decided to get some extra bits and peices for my new case which I am now going to begin work on! :)
I have ordered the hardware and a new camera for my mum! (That made her exited about the order also which gave me some room to expand on my budget haha!
Thanks for the help!
It gives me great confidence to know that there are people out there willing to help me if I run into any problems! You lot better prepare yourself for when I start building this thing at the end of easter because Im sure I'll run into a few problems haha! :)
Peace

DO. NOT. BUY. BFG. GRAPHICS. CARDS.

for the cost, you could either get a better eVGA card (still nV) or the same one for cheaper. =/

and eVGA = quality, man.

hahah yeah I realise that after reading some reviews. To be honest, I just realy liked the graphic on the heatsink of the BFG card hahaha! But Im going to make a custom design for it myself and print it on vinyl sticker paper to go with the colour scheme of my case (black, red, and blue).

i would always go with evga. Their products are identical, normally lower in price, and the have the best warrenty.
