Yes, another ASUS Mod.
Bought the DFI Intel and AMD Mobo's. Haven't decided which yet, but leaning towards the new AMD 60. And the AMD is SLI ready, which I want to do again. So ... we'll see.

Original Case:
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb25.jpg

Intel Mobo:
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb14.jpg

Or on the top the DFI AMD:
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb22.jpg

I'm going to mod this by putting a hood scoop blow hole on the top.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb29.jpg

Using a SilenX 120mm fan. This will also have an amber LED shinning through the hood scoop (which will have a mesh cover - bought from MNPCTech.com).

This will be hard because of the curve of the top piece. But doable.
Unlike the great work from Tech-Daddy. This will be a small scoop because of the flip top. But I think will fit just right to this case.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb18.jpg
Going to use Lite glass for this.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb30.jpg
Back of top with fan temp mounted with rubber screws. And top and front partially sanded.

Front and bottom closeup.

Left Side panel:
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb1.jpg

Here will be a Lamborghini window put in. Temp tape to see if it looks right.
I will bondo the side blower since this will be water cooled. And the top blow hole will be added. The 3 prong case opener will be replaced with a brushed aluminum 3.2" bike spinner.

The other side of the case will be a little surprise I've never seen before. And will wait to tell you about it when it's ready.

Case Stripped:

Paints that will be used.

Going for Pearl white interior and blond leather trim.
And a Cherry Red topped with a Pearl Red exterior. Going for a two tone red.

Trusty Compressor. Waiting for new super-duper airbrush gun to come in.

Some parts already here:

AquaBay Res

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb11.jpg
AquaBay Rad - I may not use this. But go for the DD rad and place on back 120mm fan hole. OR ... if I can fit it to top blow hole between plastic and case. Will order DD rad anyway to see if I can.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb23.jpg
Vortec 600w PSU. Decided on this because it fits my theme of red and white. And already sleeved with quick release molex plugs in RED (yeah :D )

I may paint pearl red. But hate to mess up beautiful black case.

That's it for now. Waiting for new Dremel 400. Already have the jig attachment. But may use a regular jig for this. With this case you have to cut twice. Once in plastic shell, then the metal case. I'll fill between the two for sound proofing. And have an extension covered with blond leather between the plastic and case for each sides window to give it a beautiful trimmed look.

Also waiting for amber LEDs for top. And front intakes. Next step will be installing amber LEDs and fiber-glassing the hood scoop, side blow hole, and over the ASUS imprinted logos. Then ... the cutting:eek:

Yeah, I thought it was time to do an ugly beast and make it cool. Inspired by mnpctech Stingray and Tech-Daddy Boss 57, I thought why not start with an auto case but go luxury instead of muscle? Lets see how it turns out ... ;)

Well ... look what came a knocking just after I uploaded the last shots.

The Dremel 400, & Cutter.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb36.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb35.jpg

And ... the smoked Plexi (see-thru) I'm going to use for the windows.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb41.jpg

It even came with a CD.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb32.jpg

To show you the double cut involved. Plastic shell and case door plastic snaps to.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb37.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb38.jpg

And the SilenX fans I'm going to use.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb39.jpg
You won't see this fan, so I'll leave it stock. But will be adding amber LEDs under scoop to shine out (I'll add a PCI switch to turn on-off LEDs)
Scoop hole will have mesh.

Some sound proofing. I may not use this. The thicker stuff from mncptech might work better?
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb40.jpg

And to top it off. The Musketeer with round gauges to give it an auto look.
BUT ... only the gauges will be used. The gauge case will be chopped and custom made with black leather face, or blond ... not decided yet.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb33.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb34.jpg

Lots of other goodies coming soon. Still waiting on amber LEDs so I can start on hood scoop.

Now both holes are almost finished for the hood scoop.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb45.jpg

Guess which one did the hole?

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb46.jpg

Yup, Chicago did. Tip ... don't forget to put the auger in the hole cutter first.
See the skip marks. Glad I remembered with the plastic top cover:D
But since the plastic covers the case, we cool8)

The PSU is right under the scoop, so I'm going to cut out where I have it taped, so it functions a little:rolleyes: And the hood scoop will still cover it all.

Tried the new Dremel jig attachment, and if I didn't already have the Chicago, it would work pretty well. I can see it happening for other cuts needed later on though. Like the two windows.

Here is the cut RC truck wheel for a rear fan grill. BUT ... too much of this is being taken from others, so ... I think I'll use something else instead. And ... use the cut wheel rim for a chrome blow hole duct instead.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb48.jpg

Some billet fan grills and a billet intake plate from mncptech.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb47.jpg

Again ... not to sure I'm going to use them on this one. Maybe on top inside of the case with the intake billet to trim it off.

Both sizes of filters (4" & 6"). Once again. Decided not to use them on this.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb44.jpg

I've decided to go with an aluminum sheet cover over the whole mobo that looks like a Lamborghini engine. Raised a few inches for cooling. That will be some work to get it to look like the engine. But I think worth it.

That's it for today ... still waiting for the amber LEDs. And I want to make sure everything will fit right before I do the scoop.

I Loooove a good car mod... and you got the great basics! I cannot wait to see how this all comes together!

Considering it looks like you and I use the same vendors for almost everything!
AutoAir for the paint, and airbrush depot for the compressor and brush equip, then I saw Delvie's plastics on your supplier...

hehehe, great minds think alike!

If you want, I can send you some pics and such of the lambo door hinges on my car so that you can try and put them on a case, if not, I'm going to do that someday.

Oh yeah... Lambo doors on a computer case 8)

hehe, yeah. I actually checked out your photo to see which filter you used. Decided against using it on this mod though (it does belong on a muscle car only). I'll save the filter for a 71 Cuda I want to do ;) The one muscle car I did own. It was 24 yrs old when my brother gave it to me. But it was in great shape and I miss it. I'm going with an aluminum mobo cover on this one. Hopefully, I can make it look like an engine. And make it workable for air-flow. I have a few ideas on other things I think may even surprise you:).

I watch everything you, Defyant, and mnpctech do religiously :D And a few other up and comers:)

Sure, just post them here. I may not use them, but I might.:) Anything to give ideas helps too. I was thinking of doing the air-foil on the Countach (haven't seen that yet), but the scoop and the foil may be too much.

I am flattered to be listed among such esteemed company! Kinda funny, those two guys are people that I follow and learn from extensively! Love their work.
;)

A 'Cuda scoop would look sick... fat an low profile... did it have a split down the middle of it? Am I remembering correctly? If it is the one that I remember... might have to make one for a desktop case (ones that lay flat instead of standing up tall like regular cases...)

Looking forward to the work! I can't wait to see how you pull this off!

I have some unfinished bitsies to get done on BOSS, but they are less important than some of the server building I am doing for the home right now.

Ok... enough of the feel good... nose to the grindstone! Get to work!

You do some fantastic work yourself!

Yes, it had two low profile scoops. It had a line between them if that's what you mean by a split. Sort of a small bump that ran down the length of the hood between the scoops. My brother could answer most of the tough questions. I know it was a 383 and had three carburetors ... he told me enough times:) It was in perfect shape, and I sold it for 14,000 (I asked him first if he minded since he gave it to me for free). I thought that was a lot of money then ... but he keeps telling me how much more it's worth today ... opps! I do miss sometimes. But it was toooooo fast and ate toooo much gas for me.:D

Okay, it's 2:30am and I'm up doing leather:D Since I have tomorrow off, and just checked UPS tracking (amber LEDs come in today - Friday ... great, I'll have all weekend to do the hood scoop) So ... I decided to jump to the Musketeer leather work tonight.

What kind of Lamborghini would it be if it didn't have a leather interior? A cheap one I guess.

First, you'll need something for the leather to cover. I'm starting with this. A Musketeer Component.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb34.jpg
I decided to keep the face plate and just cover it.

Then, you'll need some leather of course. I just so happen to have a 1/4 of a cow laying around. I use the expensive fine purse leather. It's easy to work with, cut, and glue.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip8.jpg

I'll start by taking the Musketeer apart.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip2.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip4.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip3.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip5.jpg

And end up with this.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip6.jpg

A habit I got into a long time ago was to catalog everything so you can put it back together again the right way. It helps!
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip1.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip7.jpg
I always put a post-it in the bag telling me which screws go where.

Next, cut a piece of leather a little bigger then you'll need.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip9.jpg
You can use scissors or a razor for this. For purse leather, scissors work great for big pieces.

Once you have your component piece cut, you'll need to make the fine cuts.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip10.jpg

Place your component on top of the leather. Use whatever you can to outline the fine cuts. I found not to much works on leather. So I just use a fine point pen for the outlines (they make enough of an impression to see). Before you do that, flip the leather over and work on the back side of the leather.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip11.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip12.jpg

See the impressions.

Now is the time for a good sharp razor.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip13.jpg

Cut about a 1/2" (12-13mm) from the edge of the component so you can overlap it around the component.

For my component I ended up with this.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip14.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip17.jpg
Bottom piece.

Now, you'll need to do the fine cuts. I'll need 3 circles and 2 vertical slits.
The slits only, are so I can fold over the excess leather into the component, and the same for the circles.

Simple slit.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip16.jpg

And smaller cuts for the circles. You need some extra for folding into the component. About a 1/4" (5-6mm). You don't want to cut it exact because it will have edges you'll be able to see. And that sucks.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip18.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip19.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip20.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip21.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip22.jpg

Once you have your fine cuts made, you'll need to prep the leather.
Iron it first. Flip it over and place a clean towel over it. Now iron it to get out all the wrinkles. Works great.

Once you have it prepped. You need to get some leather glue. OR ... you can use any of these.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/Clip15.jpg
Cheapo glue gun you can pick up for $4.95. Super Glue, Vinyl Glue, and best of all ... leather glue. I have used them all and they do work.

Notice the fine paint brushes. I use these to apply the glue on small pieces like this. You can use anything you have. Paint brush, Q-tips, tip of anything pointed, or your finger if you want. Not for super glue though, if that's what you end up using. You'll end up going to work with a piece of leather on your finger.

It just so happens, after all of this, I found out I ran out of leather glue.
So, I'll run down to the depot tomorrow (need other stuff anyway) and finish off the part of the mod before I start on the hood scoop. I'll post pics of this before I do the scoop.

Also, tomorrow when I finish off this leather piece. I'll show you some trick cuts you'll need to make for the leather to fold just right without bunching up and leaving bumps in the leather folds. And you have to be quick, before the glue dries.

See ya!

Had a roof leak during the last rain storm, spent most of the weekend getting that taken care of. And Monday & Tuesday getting estimates for a new roof. But did manage to get some things done on the case.

While doing the hood scoop, half way through I decided I hated it. I think like the Boss 57, it must be the whole length, or most of it. This half version (because of the flip top) just doesn't look right. And it just doesn't fit the Lamborghini style. So I did a quick sand, and primer just to get a better idea. And yup, I hate it!!! So, the hood scoop is out. I'm going to start again. But this time go with the low profile air-foil, and Lamborghini style side scoops instead.

Shots of ugly, short hood scoop.

dunno what you dont like about it, but I think it is a fine scoop! Dont scrap all of that work, try a bit longer to make it work....

Extend the leading "legs" out a bit more, making the scoop more dagger like, giving the leading edge the appearance of cutting the air.

Just a thought.

but I *know* right where you are... that whole "How the F**K am I going to make this scoop sit right and look good??!?" thought process... all I can say is caffeene can make you irritated and irrational. If you are tired, and hitting a wall on the scoop, step away for a night, and hit it again tomorrow... after a shower and some quality time with the Mrs.!!! ;) (Tell her it is therapy and it will help the mod progress...)

Hmm I can see what you mean about it not being very lamborghini but i do like it! I think that I know why it doesnt look lamborghini enough! The lamborghinis tend to have the opposite of scoops. Instead of sticking out, all of the features like that on a lamborghini kind of go into the body. Let me find some pics to show you what i mean!

http://www.carpicsplus.com/sempower/imagesb/lamborghini/54.jpg
http://www.carpicsplus.com/sempower/imagesb/lamborghini/cala.jpg
Now, you see what I mean? The scoops are not like muscle cars where they come out of the car, they are imbedded into the bodywork as if the body dips in. You should also notice that lamborghinis also have lots of scoops facing the other way.
Maybe look at pics of their bodywork and actualy take specific features and use them in the mod in the same place as in the car, for example, the trademark side scoop behind the door on the bottom of the sides. You could use that either side of your case at the bottom and mount two small fans in them! :)
Just an idea!
Good work btw, I could never get something to look as pro as that! :D

Maybe instead of building up, you could build in. If you have the space I think that cutting the top panel along three sides and bending a portion down could really help you get the lambo style. I whipped up a couple freehand pics to show what I mean, cause I am one of those "I-can't-explain-without-doodling-people".

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/7890/lamboscoop19gw.th.jpg (http://img140.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lamboscoop19gw.jpg)

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/5221/lamboscoop23rl.th.jpg (http://img140.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lamboscoop23rl.jpg)

Maybe with a little bit of build up along the intake edge and some smoothing with bondo, you could get the look you are after. Maybe some black screening could hide some fans mounted on the vertical for airflow. Just a quick idea for you to think on.

Which ever way you go, this is looking really good so far and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Great work so far and good luck to you.

I'm not sure I have the space available to sink the scoop. I like your drawings though. And may try it. I'm going to try cutting the scoop in half (only problem will be the intake, not sure it will be large enough to be functional) and see if I like that better or not. Anyhoo ... I just ordered another case (I paid $139 from NewEgg, and found it for $89 at Page computers ... so much for NewEgg always having the best deals - Still love them though :) ) And if I don't like the half scoop, I'll try the sunken version. There may be enough room between the plastic outer case and the metal inner case. BUT ... not much room for the fan then. I'll have to make some measurements and see what I can figure out. The PSU doesn't leave me many options.

Thanks everyone!

pure_rock_fury
03-18-2006, 11:51 AM
Even if there is not enough room for a fan to fit complete vertical, you may be able to set it at an angle. Then just double check and leave yourself some room CFM-wise. The fan would be blowing air towards the top of the scoop and would suffer some flow. If you take that into consideration and make sure your exhaust fans push more then your intake, then it should be ok to suffer a little impediment.
The key word is "should". That is just me thinking it out in my head, so there may be something I am not considering.
There are others on this board that know leagues more then I do, so may be good to get a little confirmation for that.

Project starting again. First the roof, now a lost family member. Have been at Hospice last few weeks.

Anyhoo! I've been ordering parts. So far two 7900GT eVga cards, the AMD 60 CPU, the radiator, WB, tubing, remote control parts, 2 gigs of Corsair XMS Pro, and a few miscellaneous parts have come in. Will start with the hood scoop again, and hope to have pics up soon.

Yeah, I thought if it's supposed to be a gaming case, I would go LP all the way on this one.

Here are some shots of the new stuff that has come in.

The AMD 60.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/cool9.jpg

The vid cards, (2) 7900GTs. Should have gone for the GTXs, and I may save the GTs for a later case and get the GTXs anyway.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/cool4.jpg

I decided to go with the DD rad instead of the TT rad. Which will be painter Pearlescent Red inside the white pearlescent case.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/cool12.jpg

The remote anything. Thinking of using it for the scoop LEDs in case I want them off.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/cool2.jpg

Going to just use the circuit board again on this for remote On/Off/Reset.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/cool11.jpg

This is for LANs. I decided to try this puppy for sound, so I don't have to lug speakers. I'll mod it to look better. But if they sound like crap, I'll take them out. FrozenCPU or Performance-PCs has them for $45, I found this one for $36
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/cool6.jpg

A CMOS-USB Video CAM. Thought I might add it to the case with only the lens hole showing. $19 bucks, so had to try it.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/cool1.jpg

And a backup case, in case I don't like the windows I'm planning on doing.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/cool3.jpg

Tonight I'm going to work on the hood scoop again, then the side panels. Hope to have pics of that work tomorrow. :)

Looks like another week before I start again. Now all kinds of relatives are flying in for the services. And my house is full of people I haven't seen for years. And it's just too hard to get things going with all these people around. I was hoping to immense myself in the mod to forget about what just happened ... but they all want to reminisce and it seems to just make it worse for me.

Closure and family take precidence in this instance.
The case will always be there. "Family", as you have just experienced, will not always be there.

Spend time with them while you can, make memories while you can.

We will be here waiting patiently for the case updates, but first and formost, you work through your loss and help the remaining members of your clan through it too.

Take care.

I hear what you're saying. And it is nice seeing some of them. Some I haven't seen since I was 4,5 yrs old and don't even remember them anymore. In fact, I have a cousin standing beside me while I type this out, whom I don't even remember :) and someones kids running up and down the hall I never saw before. But all in all, it is nice in a way, and I'll survive the relative invasion somehow. :)

Managed to get some work done when everyone was asleep. Had a small scare today. I noticed the AMD 60 was missing. Thought one of the kids running around here decided to play with it or something. Turned out my Uncle was showing it to my brother in-law. That was a $1000 sweat:eek:

Told everyone ... sorry, garage is off limits, especially to kids.:D ;)

Decided to keep the short hood scoop, and sanded it and gave it a base coat of Auto-Air Colors, dark sealer. But it just doesn't look right to me anymore.

Does it look straight to you guys? I want to make sure before I paint it.

And Tech-Daddy, how do you like the compressor? I'm not sure it's powerful enough now, what do you think?

honestly, I have not used it a ton yet. WHat I have used it on it has worked well. I mean, I'm using a Badger Crecendo airbrush. I'm not using any kind of HVLP or gravity fed brush, so I think this compressor seems to be able to hold it's own on what I have done thus far.

more training and scrap work than actual painting.
;)

Oh, and I love the shape! I think it looks astounding. The one thing that I would want to work on is the rectangular bulge in the front of the scoop entrance. I would want to find a way to make that match the rest of the rounded, sculpted roof line.

Boy, that took some sanding. I didn't think I was ever going to get both sides to match up. And I was thinking the same about the front. I think I'll try to re-sculpture the front tonight, well, at least slam on some more bondo and start sanding again. My arms are tired:rolleyes: The shape prevents me from using the mouse sander on most of it. And I'm using a pipe with sandpaper rapped around it. Most relatives are leaving tomorrow, so I'll get some decent work done on it this coming weekend.

Yeah, looking at the second shot (I seem to see it better in pics then actually looking at it) but it looks like the front right needs to go in a little more as well as the back right side. The left front turns in a little more then the right front. For the front, I think I'll slap some bondo on each corner, and go at it with a round file to round out the intake.

When I show it to family, they just say, it looks even to me.
The other half just say why? Why are you even doing it in the first place :)

Can't round out the front top. The mesh screen gets in the way, and I have it glued from the inside. So, I'm attempting to round off at least the bottom. I'm sure I can get the round file to work there. Sanding will be tough for lack of space. But I already started and I'm now waiting for the bondo to dry. Thinking of using a small dowel wrapped with paper to sand it. Pics tonight.

Tried to round off the bottom front. But It was just too tight to make it look right. I kept filing and sanding. But no matter what, it wouldn't match the intake or each side. It would have ended up covering up part of the mesh and kinda hanging there. Ended up filing it until it was gone. :D
I should have done it that way from the start.

I did manage to level off the front where it looked like it dropped more then the other side. Now I'll have to smooth it all out again. :)

seeming as we're talking about aching arms and ways to fix that, ill put in my advice. my mom has been a hospital pharmacist for years and years. she knows whats best.

ibuprophen is more of a placebo drug, and the only thing it really works on is little kids. what you might want to do is ice like tybrenis said, and take some tylenol with codein for the pain if its bad. good old tylenol still works wonders. pot works good too......

Good call, my bad.

I like the scoop too, and I remember you saying something earlier about it not looking Lamborghini like, but from some of the pics I have looked at it looks pretty close to some of those rear-mount air intakes. This was probably already mentioned, but have you considered extending the angles edges on the bottom of the scoop forward some? That may help, sorry if this idea was posted but I don't have time to check right now.

Just came from the emergency room. Coughed up a lot of blood last night. Turns out I got Pneumonia while visiting the hospital or hospice. Now my relatives are gone, and I could use a few right now. Boy, when it rains it pours. One thing or another with me. They have me on 6 billion gallons of fluids and antibiotics right now. Looks like more of a delay.

Anyhoo ... I'm gonna try and get the windows done this week if I can (no bondo allowed says the doctor :) ) So I'll cut the windows and fill-in the ASUS side logos with bondo when I'm better. Really don't feel too bad right now. But I'll play it safe and stay in bed for a few days. When I feel 100% better, I'll attempt the door fill-ins and extend the hood fingers a couple of inches. This really sucks though, it's the first time I've been sick in 20 yrs. And then it was just a stupid cold.

Coughing all night, couldn't sleep, (Pneumonia sucks BIG time) then started to worry. With all these delays, I was wondering. It looks like I'm going to be way over the 30 days return on most of my stuff. Anyone doing worklogs run into this problem ... mobo, vid cards, CPU, DVD, memory, something doesn't work. You're past the 30 days, what do you do if something is DOA when you install it on say day 45? Send it to the manufacturer? Try and send it back to the original purchase site? I've been pretty lucky, I've only had to send back one Intel CPU about 5 yrs ago. But of course that was one day after it arrived.

Tech-Daddy

create a testbench on your hardware.

pull all of the components, and set them up on a bench using the mobo box as a base. PUt the anti-static cushion pad from the mobo box as an insulator between the motherboard and the box. Attach all of your stuff, and build the machine, all the way through OS.

You don't need to install it into the box to test it, simply create a ghetto test bench and validate your hardware.

Or if you really want to put yourself behind by 2 more days, build yourself one of these:

Yeah, feel crappy again today. But refuse to let it get me down. And the garage is my work area, and I just open up the garage door when I bondo, sand, or paint. Plus, I wear my mask, and have it air conditioned so the air is always circulating. I just turn it off when the door is open, and use a big fan to push the air out. Then, when I close the door, I turn the AC on again (almost 90f here now). Funny, when the door is open ... my neighbors and their kids are always stopping by. Whatcha doing? Why? Why you putting on a hood scoop on a PC? How come it looks like a PC store in here? Why did you put a radiator in that one? But most of the kids just say cool :D

Agreed... spacers would give you the flow you are looking for.

Only other thing that I could recommend, is that if you cut out the bull body, leaving the outside line (like a frame of the body) then back it with speaker mesh... that is about the only thing I could offer up.

I think the spacer idea would look better. The outline would be a problem for the nostril, inner horn, and the legs and tail would have to be left alone (too thin to outline), which would just leave the body itself as an outline.
I'll go with the spacer idea.

I'll leave as is. But I'm going to use red fluid instead of green.
I may put it in backward so it doesn't take up a front 5 1/4 bay.

I have the DVD-CD burner with LightScribe (top in bubble-wrap), the LAN built-in speakers (center) (saw some cooler ones on FrozenCPU and may use one of them instead). And the CM6. May not use as well.

I also have the Sunbeam 20-1 front bay with card reader, a CM3, and a few others. Besides the DVD, everything else is, lets see how it looks first type situation. Or, how can I mod it to match type thing.

Looking great! I was wondering about painting radiators, it's ok to paint them, I mean it won't affect heat dissipation? I don't know alot about watercooling. Those sleeves are a perfect match too.

This mod is really coming along - your attention to detail is very evident, and the care you are taking in working this mod up really shows. Nice work.

I was curious about the paint on the radiator too. Do you know to what level it will effect heat dissipation?

I had a quick idea for you I wanted to mention - when it comes time to do some wire sleeving and such, have you considered sleeving them to look like spark plug wires? I jsut had to replace my plugs and wires in my car yesterday, is the only reason I bring it up, it might help add to the automotive feel.

So far you're doing a very nice job, the leatherwork is a great touch. Keep it up, and thanks for keeping such good notes.

I was wondering about that myself.:D Since you can buy them painted or unpainted. I figured if it's already painted gloss black, why not try painting them the color I want. I've always just put them in the color they came. I have a couple of them here, so I'll try a little experiment when it's time. I'll test the temps with a factory paint job, then my paint job and see if the temps go up.

Worth a shot, to have them the color I want.

Not yet ... but I'll find out.:) What I would like to do is paint the heat shields on the memory. But that would be an expensive experiment if it doesn't work:eek:

Thanks ;)

How it will look is the trick.
I still want to do an engine cover in aluminum, like Defyant did in plexi for a mobo cover.
Except add valve cover looking bends with the Lamborghini lines going down the covers.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/engine.jpg

Well, as close as I can to the engine as possible.
I already bought a decal set of the real Lamborghini decals.
AND, the script (chrome) name plate for the outside of the case. (only 4.5 inches long)

The engine decals are orginal, as well as the name plate.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1script.jpg

And some of the 37 decals.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1decals.jpg

And for the front of the case I'm going to add the real Lamborghini emblem.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/12emblem.jpg

Or, this one. Not decided yet. I'll see which one looks best on the case.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1emblem.jpg

And the new idea I was talking about for the other window.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/lamb1.jpg
Lamborghini style windows.

The one that will be looking at the back of the mobo board. Where there is just a plain sheet metal mobo tray to see.
I'm going to blow up a shot of the interior of a Lamborghini and put
it on the back of the mobo tray.
I was thinking of adding some LEDs to the instruments in the dash and radio
for 3D effects and realism.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1int.jpg

So, when you look into the window, you will see the interior of a Lamborghini.8)
Which is why I want to use real blond leather trim.

But don't tell anyone about my window idea ... it's a secret. :D

I've painted fans before, and they always seem to work just fine. As to how much it effects the performance, I'm not sure. But, I'll bet each coat slows it down minutely.

As to my lungs. Well, I probably shouldn't be painting (even with a mask, using non toxic paints), and I'm still coughing all the time. But I do feel better, and laying in bed has always been hard for me to do. Just finished off the antibiotics, so, it better be kicked. :D Thanks for asking :)

I would say to take out the mesh (unless you can't) and repaint the black, then gloss it (i think that if you made this case so reflective it could blind you, that would be awesome).

While waiting for a new respirator, I decided to start getting a plan and supplies for a homemade paint booth.

Instead of something like this.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/booth3.jpg

Which is fine (and the guy did a great job) ... but I wanted something better. Safer, for all the stuff I have in my garage. So ... I started looking on the net for some examples.

And this one caught my eye.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/boothe.jpg

Simple to make, cheap. and completely enclosed. Which is what I wanted.
So, I'm getting the PVC, tarp, lights, duct vent, and fans, form Home Depot. And ordering the filters (most expensive stuff so far, about $60-$80 per) from an internet site.

And going to make this.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/booth.jpg

Since I have a large 2 car garage and laundry area. And I only have one car (tired of moving it to paint) I have plenty of room for a paint booth setup in the far right corner. I thought I would splice into the dryer duck for the exhaust (having a filter on that end as well, to keep from having a paint splash on the outside of my garage's dryer vent)

I'm pretty sure I can build it for less then $350 (with filters).

When I'm finished with it, I'll post some pics.

Meantime ... I painted the fan shroud a pearl white.
I'm waiting on the new respirator before I spray the clear on all the parts waiting.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/2fan.jpg

With an idea of the fan with shroud (just placed on top)
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/2withfan.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/2withfan2.jpg

:D
Didn't think of that.

Okay ... that means I'll have to switch them out for each use. Which is pretty easy really. The dryer just has a big 6" snap ring, and I'll get the same snap ring for the paint exhaust duct.

Rankenphile
04-25-2006, 11:26 PM
Actually, you should be able to install an in-line one-way valve ont he dryver vent just befoure the coupling you use to join the two, which should prevent back-up. But then again, one tiny problem and you'd be in it deep. And nobody wants to raise the wrath of the almighty one herself.

MDCS
04-26-2006, 12:04 AM
After I read the above. I thought about some kinds of valve, even if was just a slide in panel of some sort. But then wondered if the heat from the dryer, when on, would re-heat the dried paint in the one part that is used for the paint exhaust, and still make everything smell like paint. I think just having to remember which one is being used, and hook up the right duct to the outside would work best.

The intake was almost flush with the case, so it will be pretty thin I believe,
once it's all the way sanded.

I need the holes and logo filled before I put in the window on this side.
Once the Bondo is nice and hard, and sanded. Then, I'll cut the window out.
Which has to be cut twice. Once in the plastic shell, then the metal case.

But ... I still have a couple of surprises for color on the inside and back of case.

Doing more sanding on the case door this morning. Looks like it will come out
just the way I wanted it. I'll get rid of the giant, imprinted logos, and the
ugly side vent will have to go to make room for the Lamborghini style window.
I'm going to do the window in smoked plexi, (keeping the red & black look outside) for a clean look, without the normal trim (you'll see soon).

You know, I saw that about a month ago. But it lacks the vent intakes. When I first saw the Vento, I thought it was ugly. Now, how to make a Lamborghini window .... hhmmmmm :D
I don't know, but I'm going to go with a simple design. One I shouldn't be
able to mess up too badly. I'll start with a template because I need 4
windows, all exactly the same. Two for each side of the plastic shell, and
two matching ones for the inside steel case.

Template #5

This one seems to fit the best, look the best,
and is as close as I can get to a Lamborghini style window as I can draw.:)
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts15.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts16.jpg

Cut the template so I can position it on all pieces.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts17.jpg

Taped up and already drawn on ...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts2.jpg

Shots of it drawn on the door ...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts19.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts18.jpg

Check both of them to make sure that they are even.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts20.jpg
Looks like it. Measures like it. Template seems to work.

Clamp it down ...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts3.jpg

Cut out the window ...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts4.jpg
Other side ...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts5.jpg

Some closeups ...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts6.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts7.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts8.jpg

All cuts are inside the line. Now I need to sand it down to the line, to make it nice and even and smooth.

Next up ... Inside shots of the door.
This is where I get to put the plexi ... fun.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts9.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts10.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts11.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/1aacuts13.jpg

Lots of little cuts needed. Trying to keep as many places as possible to make sure the plastic snaps back onto the metal door.

:D It went a lot easier then I thought.

I started to cut the plastic around the inside of the window. It actually only
took about 15 minutes with the Dremel cutter and the sander. I now have
enough room for the plexi. I may have to sand down a few more points for
it to sit flush with the panel. I left all the important connections,
and I'll just cut the plexi to wrap around them.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/doorcuts1.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/doorcuts0.jpg

Now, I need to hand sand the window and then get it ready for paint before I
put in the plexi. I've decided to go with a two tone red paint job on the
doors. I'm going to do a complete pearl red, then ... on the bottom part (where the giant ASUS logo used to be), I'm going to do a candy red blend. Then clear coat it.

I saw this two tone blend on a car, and it looked great.

Didn't have much time to work this week. I did manage to do a little Sunday night.

Sanded both windows.
And ordered the 1/4 inch (10.16mm) chrome window trim.

Cut both plexi windows out.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0door2.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0door3.jpg

And then marked off the steel doors.
I attached the plastic shells to make sure they still attached.
They fit great still.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0door7.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0door8.jpg

The metal doors will be covered with the plastic shell on one side,
and the leather on the other side.

Now that the windows are ready and fitted.
I'll paint the doors the two tone job I have planned, then add the trim, plexi
& put the Lamborghini name plate on.

That's it for this update.

Paint Booth Mod :D

After walking around Home Depot for a while, I came up with this cheap
ghetto version of an enclosed airbrush paint booth.

I thought it would run around $350 using PVC and expensive filters.
But ... :D I'm going to go with wood because it will be easier to build the
frame the way I want it. Tack on the tarps. And build the filter housing on
both ends.

It will be basically the same though as this one.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/boothe.jpg

Wood, $25 Trim board that will be anchored to the garage wall. 1"x2"x10'
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/00abbooth1.jpg
100' for frame, door, and filter frame.

Tarps - two kinds to make sure I have enough. $9.67 + $11.57
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/00abbooth5.jpg
And with tape for sealing $7.27

Duct Fan $24.97
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/00abbooth2.jpg

Flexible 4" duct - $21.71
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/00abbooth3.jpg

Cheap filters for the front $5.94
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/00abbooth4.jpg

And a filter to mod for the 4" exhaust fan.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/00abbooth6.jpg

Now, will this work? The filters should keep airbrush spray inside the booth,
but will I get enough draw through them? Will the 4", AC duct fan
be strong enough for the exhaust. I think so. If not, I can go up to an 8" fan
with reducing couplings.

I guess we'll see.;)

But ... not bad for only (with tax) $118.07
Now, lets see if I can pull it off.:)

:D

Are you using any kind of a filter for your 6" duct fan? Or, are you letting the paint & fumes just go out the duct?

The US Government prohibits me from sharing that information.

This is all I will say, I may (or may not) not use a filter. At all. I know I should but I don't (possibly). Do you have any recomendations for filters (not like I need them, since I may use filters already)?

Started on the ghetto spray paint booth this weekend.

I decided to change the location though. I'm putting it in the
top corner of the garage, right next to the water heater, and my
13,000BTU portable A/C. I'm moving the exhaust fan to the left side of the
booth (on the bottom) and the table to the right.

This way I get it out of the way.
Still big enough for me ( 6' L x 3'10" W x 7' H )
I decided to go with the taller ceiling because I wanted to hang a big light there. And I have it closer to the exhaust hole so the vent won't be in the
way. Much better I think here.

Anyway, the area ...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth1.jpg

Pre-cut some pieces ...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth23.jpg

The first part ... (7' H)
-- and the part I'm going to use as the whole things anchor.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth30.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth31.jpg

Then I make a 2x2 (which will end up as a 3x2) for the one post and the
week point of the ceiling.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth33.jpg

I tap in a nail to hold a 6' board to the new 2x2 post.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth35.jpg
Notice the old leak in the ceiling. This would have been a bad spot just a few weeks ago (I have a new roof now :) )
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth2.jpg

Add a corner brace to make it stronger.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth34.jpg

The other corner that comes off the wall.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth32.jpg

Now I have my ceiling frame.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth3.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth4.jpg

Next, the start of the front filter frame.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth6.jpg

For the bottom of this frame ... liquid nails to hold it to the cement,
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth5.jpg

The 2x1 is at a 90 to the other, leaving a perfect 1" for the filters.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth11.jpg

And more liquid nails for the bottom left wall. A hefty bead all the way down
and on both ends.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth13.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth14.jpg
And you'll notice I added a filter frame brace.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth13.jpg

Now one coming down the water heater side with bracket.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth22.jpg

Lets add some roofing ... :)
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth27.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth7.jpg

Inside the filter frame, lets tape in the filters.
I'm going to use masking tape for the filters so I can easily change them.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth14.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0booth16.jpg

Above was done on Saturday. Here is what I did today.

Built the door.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/00booth6.jpg

Just kinda hanging there for the shot.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/00booth4.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/00booth5.jpg

I'm not going to put the door on until I put the plastic over it first.
I'm going to put the thin 1mil on the inside two walls and the ceiling. And the
thicker 4mil plastic on the door, outside wall, and above the filters. I'm also
going to put the 4mil on the floor, and cut about 3 extra pieces for the floor
so I can swap it out once in a while.

Next comes the side brace and exhaust fan. Then I'll unhook the light, tack
on the plastic, re-hook the light, run the exhaust vent, do some wire
management, then put in my stuff. I'm going to put the table in the far corner and get some kind of lazy-sue setup going (I love my paint setup now ... I put a board on my shop stool, cover it, and paint, then turn the swivel stool instead of walking around it. That way I see every side with the same light.

Great frame work, best would be to add in a few more support braces on the left wall. You don't want it twisting or falling over while your in there. Also maybe look into adding a length of wood along the top and sides with nut/bolt so you can get a nice tight seal and also be able to do easy replacment of the pvc sheet over time, and help keep fumes from escaping to a min.

Also maybe look into adding a length of wood along the top and sides with nut/bolt so you can get a nice tight seal and also be able to do easy replacment of the pvc sheet over time, and help keep fumes from escaping to a min.

Well, I just finished the framing. It's the best I can do with what I have. It's pretty solid. I'll bet I could put a spare tire on top.:D I won't of course, but it's strong.

For the plastic ... I'm going to slightly over lap each corner, then tape each seam to seal it. And on the door, I'm going to leave a half inch overlapping the sides so when I close it, it will seal better. Best I can come up with.

He's talking about the blue cover on the table.
And no, they are not used. I went to a hospital supply store and bought a
case of them (60). They are great. Light weight, waterproof plastic on one
side and soft cotton on the other. The blue side (plastic) is great for painting
without anything sticking to it. And the cotton side is great for putting things
on it you don't want scratched.

I also picked up a box of disposable hospital gloves (I think 150 pairs). Super lightweight latex I think. Not sure what they are made of. But they kind of feel like a condom. Great for painting or anything where you need to have dexterity and sensitivity. :p

i used to do some electrical work in my highschool auditorium....theyve made it a new building code that you have to have the wall connectors with the ground pin up....for the fact of...if say a piece of paper fell and contacted between the 2 leads...that would make a nice little fire

Q:what does tha reset buton (me do'no:? )
Probably an ELCB built into the socket. Nice, but I still think it should be inverted.
The chance of a piece of paper falling onto the two pins is much lower than the chance of catching that wire sticking out.
Building codes are for new buildings. Screw the building code and use common sense. ;)

Q:what does tha reset buton (me do'no:? )

Could be a GFI (Ground Fault Interupted) socket. Basically the socket has a resetable circuit breaker in it. They are required/recommended if there is an electrical socket around any type of water, such as bathrooms, kitchen sinks, washing machines or in this case maybe the hot water heater.

I wouldn't feel too bad if you don't know. They are used in hospitals or doctors offices. Basically they go under a patient in, let say a hospital bed, to absorbe any bodily fluids that may be released.. whether it be from a surgical procedure or otherwise.

Used for under the patient to keep natural spills to a minimum. :)

I'm not sure what they are called, I ripped off the clear package and put them in my garage storage unit. But ... you can get them at any hospital supply store, just ask for the bed protectors and they'll know what you mean.

As to the gloves ... nope, not latex like wingman and I thought. But they are disposal vinyl gloves, even thinner then latex I guess.

Finally had some time to work on the Lamborghini ... started painting the
doors this week. But ... my brand new Iwata started spitting globs of paint.

I thought it was clean, so I cleaned it again (I have the cleaning kit), no
good, still spits out globs of paint. Cleaned it again ... no good again.
Contacted the place I bought it from and they said send it back. Great, but
that leaves me with a cheap $29.95 Badger ... won't do it!

So ... I ordered a new Paasche AND a new Iwata. Top of the line $300
setups (I like having backups :D ). I should get them Saturday or Monday
(did the 2nd day thing, but you know how they don't count weekends :( )

I already received the chrome trim for the windows (I also got regular black
trim in case I don't like the chrome look) And I'm already working on the back
of the case ... getting it ready (drilling the extra holes I need for my back of
case ... surprise.) Then I finally get to start on painting the pearl white

On the exhaust ducting ... I didn't even notice it was insulated on the box.

Shot of it next to the AC duct ...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0aabooth1.jpg

This ducting is better then the white duct that came with the AC, and holds
in the heat better, so, I think I'll cut a piece for the AC (I bought 25', so
plenty to go around) I think later on I'll even cut a piece for the dryer.

First door painted pearl red.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/0aabooth2.jpg

I'm going to paint the 'Candy Red' on the bottom where the giant ASUS logo
used to be. And blend it onto the pearl red.

I would like to blend the top piece with the hood scoop as well. Just have it
shaded to match (candy red running along the bottom of the scoop only)

Anyone know that procedure? It's already clear coated. Do I need to just re-
sand the clear coat off, or do I need to re-sand and start again? If I need to
re-sand the whole thing, I might skip it. :D

Well, I went and did it. I just went ahead and re-sanded the whole hood
scoop again. Then, I repainted it. LOTS of work, I can't believe I did that. :D
But, I want it the way I want it.;) And, I've been playing around with the
airbrushes, looking at some custom airbrush painting videos, and I have this
pattern down pretty good that I want to use.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/01repaint3.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f194/PCMDCS/01repaint1.jpg

And, I ordered, candy yellow, candy sunset, candy orange, candy brite red,
and more candy red.

This will be a blended line (on top of the pearl red, about 1.5" thick) that will
run the length of the bottom of the case doors, up the sides of the front,
and just under the bottom sides of the hood scoop. Kinda like a giant C. I'm
hoping this shading will give the whole case some depth and sense of
movement. Who knows:p

My lazy-sue arrived (real cheap one $7.95) with a crack in it running the
whole length and ready to split in half. So, I put some wood glue on it and
kept it. (ahhhh, quality work coming out of China these days  )
Works great now though. :)

MDCS Hows the humidity and airflow in the booth, when you are in there painting with the compressor on?

Well, since it's in my garage, and luckily I have it cooled this summer (or it would be about 120 in there - it's already 104-112 outside already).
So, the temp is a nice 76, and the humidity is never really a problem in AZ. Not sure what it is right now though. Maybe somewhere between 8%-10%.
I don't notice an increase in the booth.

And the airflow is good. I noticed the exhaust filter turned red on the very first spray with the brush (I mean one spray, not one job) :D And my respirator filters for the first time turned red as well. They never did when I was just spraying in the middle of the garage. It seems to be doing the job. None of the spray is getting into the garage. ;) Notice all the spray sticking to the walls on the filter shot. That would have gone all over the garage before. :D

And to Omega ... yes I know what it's called. Is it okay if I still call it a lazy-sue like I always have? As to the time ... yup, it's going to take awhile. I'm in no hurry to finish this. I want it done right, not fast.

MDCS
06-09-2006, 11:27 PM
BTW ... you'll see a big jump when I spray the candy paint. Which has to be clear coated soon after it's sprayed. So, I'll have the hood scoop, both doors, and the front piece painted pearl red and ready for the candy coat.
And that will be it (except for the rear, which is a surprise :) ) for the outside of the case. After they have dried, I'll add the chrome trim to the windows, put in the tinted plexi, and add the Lamborghini decals and name plate. :) :)

Not quite sure which you mean. The booth, you need to build. The airbrush ... well, Paasche makes some really nice ones for art work. I have one, and most that I know off, allow you to change from fine (small artwork) to medium, to large. And they're easy to switch over from one to the other.

well.. try this: put the webcam behind the mesh, plug it in and see if the holes in the mesh are big enought so they dont get in the frame, if not dont make a biger hole(its gonna ****up the look of the hole thing); under the hinge... thats its a good point, a nother one would be to put it behind the window (quete from you ) but I dont know how you gonna place youre case in reference to you, what about the side vents you could put it there but at an angle so it points up and to the side a bit

Not sure now at all. If the top is up, then the cam just captures the ceiling.

Anyway ... compressor took a dive (a whole 3 months old) so I ordered a new one. Went from 40psi to 100psi and this one has a 2 gallon tank. This time I've set it up so it's outside the booth (I think that's what killed the first one, breathing just paint fumes). I've cut the holes and ran the hose in form just outside the booth. It should work and last longer this way.

I've already masked off the front and I'm getting ready to paint the pearl white in the bay area before I paint the pearl red front. Pics coming soon.

STILL trying to figure out where to put the cam.

hmmm... you could mount the cam anywhere you want and have a mirror or prism in front of it.. or fibre optics.. that way, u could point it anywhere... don't know if this fits the theme, but this way you could install it anywhere and have exactly the view you want....

If I'm reading correct, there is some kind of hinge, right? Well... try putting the camera on a black 5.25" face plate and see how that goes.... just an idea though.

Some good ideas guys. I like this one the best. Maybe I'll see if I have room to put it on the speaker on fan controller bay device.

The bay area doesn't need to wait for me to decide where to put the cam, so I've masked it, primed it, and painted it pearl white. After it dries (I'll add the cam now to a drive bay device, so I can restart painting) I'll paint the front the pearl red. Then, I can start the candy colors which will go from the doors to the front to the hood scoop. And then give them all the clear coats at once.

This might be a daft question so here goes. Will You be able to move the cam around or will it be fixed? If its already been asked then just ignore me:)

It will be fixed, if I'm going to put it in a bay device. Limited that way I guess.

I must have upset the gods that be. First the roof, then the airbrush, then the compressor, then the Dremel. Now ... the house Central Air died (the garage is cooler with my portable going then the house :D ) I've ordered a new Trane XL1600. Should be installed Tuesday. Hopefully I can get back to the mod this week. :D

It's ok to do it in your own worklog. It's annoying to do it in a discussion. Subtle difference, yes, i know.

Be careful who you boss around-you're still new here. Some people might not like it.
