This has got to be the cheapest 42" television on the market! Maybe I've just been out of the loop lately, but I don't remember seeing 42" tv's under $700? At least not quality ones. And this is a samsung to boot!

I might just buy this bad boy. I really need to upgrade from this 20" cheapo CRT, lol. Damn that would be quite a difference.

if your thinking of replacing your current computer monitor, then i strongly recommend going 1080 for a larger screen size. i've got a 32" stuck at 1360x786.

I bought an Emerson 42-inch plasma a few months back for under $500 that appears to be a rebranded Samsung PN42B400. Everything on it is exactly the same except the name on the front, and looking into the left-hand vents with a flashlight you can even see the Samsung name on one of the components inside.

My question is, if Samsung is such a great name (and I agree that it is), why would they spend the money to rebrand something they made and seel it under a different name?

They probably sold the design and components to Emerson for a bit of extra cash. That's my guess anyways.

And I'd love a 1080p TV but I'd never be able to afford one unless it was a smaller size or a 1080p that's worse than 720p - aka a cheap-o brand. I'm all about quality and the wall in the house I'm moving into is WAY too big for a smaller TV. I actually need more like 65", but that'll never happen. lol

edit: yea I can see what you mean though. This thing is only 1024x768. Ouch. But I won't be using it with the PC except for watching movies. Which... Should be fine, right? I'll be buying a new screen for the laptop anyway so not too big of a deal I guess.

That's what this Emerson is and I have absolutely no complaints with it. I've hooked my system up to it and played Mass Effect 2 just to test it and it was excellent.

sadly, i found that at full 1920 x 1080 everything is too grainy to read (text) but at the 13xx by 7xx games still look good and play better...

It all depends on the game. If the in-game fonts were designed for low-res, then yeah, they probably won't look as good, but if they're designed for high-res, they'll look great. Case in point; from what I hear (haven't played it myself), the fonts in ME2 are pretty much unreadable on anything besides a 1080p display.

That's for console of course; you shouldn't have problems like that with PC games, since those are usually designed to run at a huge range of resolutions.
