So, after reading through some of the results for dr.walrus's education poll, it made me curious...(i know, always a dangerous thing :P ) I know we have a crazy wide array of people here, but I realize I don't really know what most of you do. So, to satisfy my curiosity... :D

Major (if in University):
Current career/job:
Desired career (realistic; seriously, what is it you are shooting for, if you're not there already):
Passion (what would you do if money were no object):

I'll start it off.

Major: Computer Science
Current career: Information Security R&D/IT support (side)
Desired career: Not really sure yet...still looking
Passion: Unfortunately, not entirely sure on that either, but the closest I can think is if I could have a huge junkyard, a hanger full of tools, and facilities to fab anything I couldn't build (carbon fibre, fibreglass, etc)... Just spend my days tinkering and building interesting stuff.

Major: Packaging Science
Current Job: Unemployed (looking for part time weekend work)
Desired Career: Work for my self (ideally small buisness owner), also want to own some income property
Passion: Likely to happen: Get my own warehouse to store and work on cars, boats, etc and let my friends rent space for their projects too. My hyper-idealistic dream: mega corporation I run builds self governed space colonies.

Major: None. Mainstream education systems don't work for me. I have many many certifications and specific qualifications.
Current career: Computer Systems Engineering (I design and build and document new computer builds), pre-sales engineer. (lots more)
Desired career: Owning a small bakery.
Passion: Lots. I always seem to have too many passions in life. Keeps me busy, but I don't seem to focus on any one passion.

Current career/job: Stagehand/Tech
Desired career (realistic; seriously, what is it you are shooting for, if you're not there already): I love my job. I do lighting and audio for various events at the local Arena/Theatre/Convention Center full-time and am the guy that does most of the infrastructure.
Passion (what would you do if money were no object): I would like to have a workshop in which to putter and tinker with whatever I find that intrigues me - cars, computers, audio, video, etc.

FWIW,

Passion: travel the world with my girlfriend, buy an ultra expensive Fazioli concert grand and play it all the time, and give free reign to my modding impulses. there'd probably be an estate house and a factory 5 GTM in there somewhere too. :D

Current Career: None/Student. Though part-time/side jobs pay the rent.
Desired Career: Multimillionaire retiree, 9-5 just isn't for me.
Passion: Tinkering and random designing. I've set a few slightly outrageous life goals: 1) Build a couple very large Stirling Engines that can power some small generators which will charge a home battery or capacitor array and #2. 2) Rip the motor and drive-train out of a Hummer H1 and replace it with 4 excessively high-powered wheel-mounted electric motors. Enjoy tire-roasting, eco-friendly behemoth. 3) Build and pilot battle mech. Do epic battle with guy in Canada who also built one. 4) Come up with more excessive and nearly-unattainable goals. 5) Have fun and die happy...or die in a fiery mech battle. lol

Major: Computer Science (UK student so 'major' doesn't really translate, all of my modules are in Computer Science...)

Current Career: Full time student and part time web designer / farm labourer / guitar tech / whatever fits around my course at any given moment. Spent several years working at various helpdesk tiers, from tech support to disputed warranty claims (fun).

Desired Career: Something involving robots. But more seriously, IT management.

Passion: Umm, haha, really? Punk rock, heavy metal, travel, technology, history, more monitors and more screwdrivers because you can never have enough pixels. Or screwdrivers. Oh and food. Mainly meat. And beer. Skydiving, scuba diving, tattoos, large slobbery dogs and having enough money to pay for all of the above.

Major: None. I did the trade school thing for a while, not for me.

Current Career: Stock answer to that: Fighting the Darwinian process by helping stupid helpless people to prosper, thereby being more likely to procreate. More specifically, I handle breakdowns at a major transportation company. I'm the guy they call when they break down on the road, anywhere in America. We have over four thousand trucks on the road and on my shift there are two people to cover the breakdowns. We also hire some of the most helpless, whiny, childish steering-wheel holders in the nation, and I deal with them for thirteen hours a night. You'll have to excuse my bitterness.

Desired Career: Anything that allows me to deal with things instead of people. More specifically, I would love to own my own custom-woodworking shop, specializing in high-end heirloom-quality furniture etc.

Passion: Creation. If money were no object I would love to travel the world and spend as much time as I could with my kids while they're small, but when that was all done, I would create, be it in wood, steel, electronics, or even the written word. My shop would make Jay Leno want to murder me.

Major (if in University): N/A
Current career/job: Assistant Manager for Wendys
Desired career (realistic; seriously, what is it you are shooting for, if you're not there already): Computer Network IT
Passion (what would you do if money were no object): Own my own restaurant, be it fast food or full service. And the time to spend with my daughter and watch her grow up and take her to different places like i had the chance when I was a kid. I would have a full workshop and the ability to work and develop more home automation systems for everyone and especially for the disabled.

Major: I dropped out, twice lol - Once from a Business Computing degree - 2 years in and I'd barely learned a thing new and there was a limit to even my patience, and second time from an IT and Education degree which would have qualified me to be a teacher. During the second year, during a 3 month placement in a school I realised that, as long as my temper is, I would have ended up knocking some little turn out of a window.

Current Job: Co-manager of an automotive body repair supplies store with a stupidly busy bespoke IT support business on the side.

Desired career: I'm a grafter with little real ambition. I really don't care what I do as long as there's a roof over my head and the bills get paid. I would like to run a small computer shop in a little town - I've done that in the past and really enjoyed it, but the market is pretty much flooded everywhere close to where I live now.

Passion: I'm almost at the point where, again, I no longer care - I just work to pay the bills and make sure everyone I care about is taken care of. I really don't get a lot of time for me, or to think about me, so I haven't really thought about this. It'd probably involve a move abroad and the aforementioned small puter store.

If I move to the states, I'm pretty sure the (American) wife would insist on PA lol - there's a guy in her hometown already doing computer stuff, but I hear thru the grapevine that he isn't particularly great at it - course - moving into a new town and putting one of the locals out of business isn't likely to make me super-welcome :p

If you're that much better at it than he is, the rest of the locals would probably be glad to have you. You'd likely not be super-welcome at his house, but you didn't want a Christmas card from him, anyway.

It's a SMALL town lol - I mean like, there are about 5000 people total, the town has ONE traffic signal, and that's part time - spends about 10 hours a day just flashing yellow....

I don't personally know how good or bad the guy is - the month or so total I've spent in town, well if anything went wrong, I'm not the kind of guy who needs to go looking for help most of the time. What I've heard from the wife and her friends though, wasn't positive...

EDIT: The figure 5000 was based on me yelling at the wife - A little more digging and... "According to the 2000 census, the borough population was 4,126."

I have many things that make me happy but nothing I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.

Watch out for that one. Not saying you have to decide now, or even soon, but I've been in that situation for several years now...it's fun for a while, but it just gets old. If I were stuck in a job I hated, I think it would be better almost (no, probably not, tbh)...instead I'm stuck in a job that I marginally enjoy, but where I am bored a lot of the time (software maintenance development now). All my life growing up, I was told "Find something you love doing and figure out how to make money doing it, and you'll never work another day in your life". ...I just never counted on the first step being so difficult...

Displaced network analyst. They have me sending out bills now. I run a Pitney Bowes Flowmaster, and process about 50,000 bills per night. It'll be more come next year; we just merged with another company, and will have an additional 80,000 bills per day to send out (this is on top of the 200,000 we already send out per day). I have the machine slowed down a little for the video.

After I finish Whaler's Heading, I'll probably spend my time making knives, powder horns, and such for bucskinning groups and Ren faires. Lots o fun and honestly, it's a lot better use of my time than sit around crying about my bad heart and failing eye. Feeling sorry for yourself never leads to anything.

Also, being a stay-at-home dad. It's great to get to watch him grow every day-each one of those a day we were told we wouldn't get.

Major: Architecture. At University of Idaho. I'll have my master's in 3 more years. Feels like forever.
Current job: Summers I work at WSU doing grounds maintenance. I mow and weed whack, pick up garbage, dig holes. I like it.
Desired career: Custom Homes, Urban Planning and Development, Regional Planning. Video game level design or Imagineer if the opportunity comes and I'm prepared to take it.
Passion: Design and run a 'nerd'/'geek' living/learning design studio/school. Have a lan gaming center, hacker space, tools to design and build pretty much anything, living quarters, study areas, cafe. Parts of it would be more public business and parts would be more private community. If money were truly no object I would design and build an entire city (or nation), build the fastest train system in the world here in the U.S.A., build a space elevator, and make a video game inspired theme park with all the big names in the industry. If money weren't an issue I would definitely start a video game company. I also like to write and do art, I really enjoyed doing the Midnight Rider's Video Contest and I've been talking with a friend about doing a low budget film. It might turn into several short films, but short films tend to be kinda bad, so I'd rather stay away from that. To be honest, the whole passion thing is something that I find myself actually doing in one way or another. Probably not everything on the passion list, but a fair amount of it will at least be attempted.
