widths?

so i kinda know what to do but have no idea what to do when ordering my materials. ithere are so many different widths of aluminum and acrylic that seem would work well. i would go ahead and just measure my cases materiel widths, but its kinda flimsy and has dented in the past. so i guess im wondering what are the best thicknesses to work with in aluminum and acrylic?

for Acry: 1/8th to 1/4th
For Alu: i'd say find out what gague you have now, and order a few gagues up.
