I have this amp (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_026TS19202/Power-Acoustik-TS1920-2.html?tp=115) in my car and the other day I decided to see if the knob on the remote volume control would come off so I could mount it somewhere inconspicuously.
unfortunately, when I was putting the knob back on, the whole shaft broke into pieces.
(and sorry about all the "knob" and "shaft" talk btw ;) )
so... I did some googling and ebay checking and cannot find for the life of me a replacement knob! This amp is discontinued. So basically, can I use a potentiometer or something to replace the volume control? and if so how do I know what to buy? can I just hook up my multimeter to it or something? maybe I shouldve put this in rookie's nook lol as I don't have any experience at all with pots.
First, fair warning, I have absolutely no experience with car amps. That being said, the volum control is probably a potentiometer, though what rating I couldn't even begin to guess (see previous statement). Pictures are, of course, always helpful.

good idea, I will post some pictures later tonight. just discovered that there ARE screws holding this thing together, so with some luck and some superglue, I might be able to salvage what I have.

check a guitar shop, most have a few different types of knobs, for amps and volume controls on guitar

alright, finally got around to cleaning up my car so I took the volume knob apart and snapped some pics:

the circuit board that the shaft was attached to, you can see where it broke

picture of the *cough* shaft, and you can see the part that spins in the two gaps. the circuit boards are what broke it looks like. the shaft still turns inside just fine. wonder if I can just solder the leads on the boards back together? although it would take some pretty amazing soldering skills that I lack to do... lol. maybe solder some wire to connect the 6 contacts. hmm.

Good news is, that is definitely a potentiometer. If you can google some of the numbers on it you should be able to find a replacement or post them here and hopefully we can help you decipher them so you know the pot. rating.

awesome. there is some black insulating rubber crap covering most of the circuit board, I will try and scrape it off and see what kind of numbers this thing has.

remember, it's a stereo pot. so you need to go to radioshack, not your guitar shop.
And I hope you learnt your lesson about glued-on knobs ;)
