I am an absolute cable neatness freak!

Every time I go to one particular customers site, I can't help myself from cleaning up their cables.

This is an example of my latest rack. In this photo it is still unfinished. I will post a finished one later...

Gotta wonder how well that retains heat.... ^
It's nice to see that some people actually care about the aesthetics of cables not just the functionality.

It's really just as often about functionality as aesthetics. In the case of that 'blanket', sure, it works now...but if anything breaks the amount of time that they'll likely waste trying to find the issue will be exponentially longer than if the cabling were actually managed.

That being said, it's also about aesthetics. ;) I love me a clean rack. :D ...in retrospect, that could be taken another way...keep your minds out of the gutter damn it! :whistler:

EDIT:
Looking through the pics in the link....how many of you sysadmins would kill to have this office?

Oh god I've worked on one like this and it feels like a crime cutting through all those cable ties.

Half an hour later, it feels like a crime that anyone is legally allowed to use that many cable ties in the first place

I am the king of tie wraps.

When I build a rack that is static, I will use hundreds of them and half of them get cut off during the process. Once I build one rack and get the tie wraps set, the next rack doesn't take as many. If I build a rack that will be in flux I use cable channels and Velcro wraps.

One of these days I will find the pictures of when I used wax line to crochet wires into a harness.

I have posted pics of some truly messy data center cabling in the past, but this time we figured it was time to do the opposite: Show how some people have managed to organize cables into something close to art.
