Hey guys :) need a break from HP3 while i sort out a few things :)

Still need to mod tho! so ive dont this "simi" qicky mod :)

Again as with most..not all! the mod begins with the sleek old style retro case that is the HP-8000 Series,

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0510.jpg

The first thing to be done is to strip the case down.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0511.jpg

Streight to cutting! the floppy area is cut away from the top panel and a 110mm hole is cut for the blow hole.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0525.jpg

For all my blow holes i use PVC pipe, its thick walled and very strong, perfect for this type of mod.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0540.jpg

It's marked as being 100mm but in actual fact its 110ISD wich is really perfect for the 120mm fan blow hole.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0543.jpg

A bit more trimming is needed to make the hole larger and the cut section of pvc pipe is tightly fitted in.

As you can see plenty of overhang is left to accomodate for the conture of the facia.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0550.jpg

Rather than use bondo to secure the rear of the Blow hole, Qick Dry Aradite is used just for the ease of use :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0551.jpg

the joining surfaces are "ruffed" up to help the Glue adhear.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0554.jpg

Dosn't look like a lot! i'll add more later.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0556.jpg

The glue is given 20 mins go "go off" and it's time to flip the panel over and trim off that excess.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0563.jpg

A qick going over with the sander tool

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0564.jpg

and a good old hand sand with some 200 grit.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0566.jpg

Looking almost done! a thin skim of bondo will be applied over night to finsih the blowhole.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0567.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0570.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0572.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0576.jpg

Next is to cut a matching hole in the Chassis to allow the new blow hole to fit. This time ive taken the easy and less messy way out and cut my hole with the snips!

For this type of hole this method is fine and with a steading hand and baby steps you can get a pretty clean cut :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0558.jpg

For all those Jaggy sharp bits! you can use a Hammer and Dolly to flatten them out.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0559.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0560.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0561.jpg

Time for a test run! Not too bad for a evenings work :)

Ive always wanted to do a window flame mod!

I ended up having to use more than 5 different dremal bits for this mod! as well as a stack load of 200G sandpaper.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0604.jpg

The pattern is copied onto the side panel @ this stage its just a ruff trace.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0600.jpg

I really had no idea of how messy and how much of a painstaking timeconsuming job this was going to be....i soon found out :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0601.jpg

Even @ this stage i'll bet your going hrrrrrm!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0602.jpg

After a couple of hours, 2 beers, a coffee, lunch and a qick session of catch with the son the panel was actually starting to look promising!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0605.jpg

Each and every flame is worked on individually until smooth.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0609.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0610.jpg

A close up shows just how much work was needed to get each flame smooth.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0611.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0612.jpg

A lot later in the day the panel is ready for a "look see " :)

Going to try my hand @ some embossed flames as you'll see next, try a 3D raised effect and might just pull out the old air brush to do a bit of highlighting :)

Embossed Flames!

Thought i'd try something new today, a lil something to jazz up the base a bit.
I was going to cut them from the left over plastic but remembered the good old Defyant style plex flames..

The idea is to make a "raised" pattern of molded looking flames.

Pics always say it best :)

*******Sorry for the badly focused shots guys***************

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0626.jpg

The flames get "The chop"

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0628.jpg

Next is to clamp on into place on the base.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0632.jpg

A bit of heat is applied and the front of the flame is bent into shape.
The wifey's pegs are always handy :)

Next is to sand and prep the area where the flames will be glued to, using good old Araldite epoxy glue.

Holes are marked and drilled to where the flames will be glued to, these will help act as anchor points.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0646.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0653.jpg

Plenty of glue is used! any extra araldite can be sanded later :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0654.jpg

The tips edges and excess glue is sanded away.

time to start the moulding process....i'm using spot/hand/glazeing putty... this is NOT the suggested method of going about this! and a proper skim of Bondo is a better idea then use your glaze sand spray putty sand paint.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0675.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0676.jpg

An initial sand to knock the bulk of the putty off...these will now be left to sit over night.

With some initial ruff sanding out of the way and a new camera for better pics you can see @ closeup just how ruff these are.

Theres still a lot of work before these flames look any where near convincing.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0700.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0703.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0704.jpg

The hardest part is getting into the curved back of each flame, for this im using a small fine round sanding tip in the dremel.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0706.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0707.jpg

Then it's over for 3 really thick coats of spray putty.

The base was left to sit for 24 hours under heat lamps to help the putty cure.

As you can see! thyrs still lots of ruff/low spots, the proper thing prolly should be to "spot putty" these, but i'm confident enuf to over come these with some sneeky sanding and a few more coats of primer putty.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0716.jpg

Some black shadow is applied to help me find my "lows" as i sand.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0719.jpg

a few mins later of "wet rubbing" and the flame is starting to look like it should. (moulded)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0033.jpg

a qick few coats of primer now to help fill again and show up any ruff spots, whick are again sanded out.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0050.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0045.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0051.jpg

i'll leave this to sit over night to allow the ton's of paint to "settle" and have a looksee in the morn as to weather i'll add some more spray putty of just a few coats of primer :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0005.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0006.jpg

Again left to dry for the most part of the day and given one final wetrub

Some close ups show how each little area is worked to the result needed.

very nice...
{i wanna try something similar with a tribal design on the front of the case.. bondo and sand.. AND leave some plexi edges a lil bit visible (or invisble).. but i thought how nice it would be to make everything black.. and have leds under the plexi model.. just 4 a touch of highlighting, in the dark :) just a thing i wanna try(have not enough plexi).. }

back to your new mod.. it's brilliant :D

So very glad to see you back at it, Defyant, you're one of my favorite modders. Your attention to detail, artistry with the materials and sheer craftsmanship are really above and beyond, and you always put up incredibly useful and educational worklogs. I'm thrilled to see you working on a new project, especially one as cool as this one promises to be.

Looking forward to the rest of your work. Thanks for sharing! You make it look too easy.

Wow guys!! thank you all for the great replies :) thyr very much appreciated. :)

another flood update!

For the motherabord side of the PC i'm going to keep with the Auto theme and use some Vents ive had laying around for ages.

these will not only be for looks but serve to help the internals breath as well.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0582.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0583.jpg

The idea is that the 2 will petrude thru the side panel much like the hood scoops do on hot rods.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0585.jpg

These will be attached to the chassis and the side panel will be fitted over the top.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0590.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0591.jpg

The holes are cut by hand and dremel, so the lines are not as streight as they could be.

A block and paper help to sand them back to near streight.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0592.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/DSCF0593.jpg

With one hole cut the Vents can be placed thru for a "look see", the only dilemma is what way to have the vents face?

I decided that now was a good time to cut the second (top) vent hole and do a proper looksee!

Nothing really flash to show you guys, just me cutting a hole! so ive left that out and moved onto the better shots.

A bit of early spray putty was used to help fill in the larger scratches from the cuts and sanding.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0078.jpg

Next (using some double sided tape for now)was to sit the side vents in.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0082.jpg

Last was to pop the panel on!... i have to admit i really like this look and i think it will fit in with the rest of the theme, not bad for a $2.50 mod

I went off on a bit of a Tangent in this next update ! bit more self indulgence. I'd had an idea thru the week! and having a spare front panel to play with i'd thought i'd give it shot!

I wanted to spice up the old "blow hole" mod, give it somthing new :)

The modded panel and the new one i'll use for the new "Defyant style blow hole" :P

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0110.jpg

I'll pretty much skip thu the cutting hole process, all been seen before.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0130.jpg

This blow hole is going to follow the shape of the case and be a raised type.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0131.jpg

The new part or extra to the blow hole will be it'd side vents!

This is the first time ive tried this mod, it's ganna be messy soz, but bear with me and hopefully the end result will be worth the time. :)

No rocket science just mark and cut :P

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0135.jpg

The left over will be bent down to help with the shape of the vents.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0137.jpg

Some left over 100mm pvc from the blowhole is cut into 2 small strips.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0140.jpg

And pretty much "jammed" and araldite glued into the cut slots.

altho still no where near finished i can get a good look as to how the new front will now look.

The 2 vents are not as perfect as would like and one is slightly more open then the other, this i can fix.
now that thyr under spray putty i can get the lines right and finish them for the next update.

The "finishing" putty i'm using id a pro type qick dry 2pak stuff, i'm using this because it drys and is sandable within minutes!it's expensive but gets the job done for me a lot faster.

Defyant

NB*** I opted in the end not to run this mod! the end case looks cleaner without the rings*****

While this mod is not going to be a HP3-MRGA when it comes to lighting effects ,i still wanted to add something new.

What i decided upon was a very simple yet modular design that would allow me (with the use of LED lit fans) to swap lighting around to suit the case. A blue fan id used for now but a RED, GREEN ,UV etc can easily be added to the carridge.

I wanted to add lighting that would add to the blowhole/turbine effect, but not distract too much from air flow.

A qik trip to the local plex shop and i was home with the parts needed :)

The major part of this next mod are the 2x 50mm long Perspex tubes , the outer is 100mm and the inner being 80mm.

The modular part of the mod is an old fan holder from a HP server. I will be altering slightily to suit this mod.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0212.jpg

Shown here is the cutting away ow the middle area to allow the nosecone to come thru,

In the end i removed all the round grill bits and just left the 4 support posts.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0215.jpg

The next shot pretty much gives you the idea of what im after!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0220.jpg

The plex tubes are taken inside for a qick sanding

Dried and cleaned

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0232.jpg

To help the new paint stick the "inners" of the plex tubes are coated with plastic plex prime.

Once the paint has dried the ends of each tube are given a qick sand to remove the overspray.

Then these are glued to the also previously painted and dried fan ex holder.

For testing i'm going to use a spare CM BLUE 120, this type of fan is totally perfect for this mod! the 4 placed LED's that are already on the fan will carry along the tubes perfecty.

Rubber gromets are used to support the fan, the fan is then bolted to the assembly.

Next is to test the lighting to ensure the light will actually travel along the tubes to the outer rim.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0300.jpg

It does! and as can be seen buy holding the light unit different angles can produce different effects :)

The next pic really moves along and also shows the base now painted silver! the process is the same as any painting but i'll show it for the sake of the worklog :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0014.jpg

After the panel is "high filled" and left to sit for a few day to allow the dozens of coats of highfill to sink back :P it is then "Black shadow'd" or guide coated, the idea is that the dusty black guid coat is your guide for the sanding or wetrubbing process.

If theres something on TV i'll sand in the laundry sink :) this allows me wet rub and watch the nightly news :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/PICT0043.jpg

Once wet rubbed using 800grit wet and dry the panel is taken back out to the workshop , wiped dry, tack clothed or propsoled and given a dusty coat of "Platinum Silver" then followed by several more coats.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2277.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2279.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2284.jpg

The panel is allowed to sit for a bit and then given 5-6 coats of CLEAR and left to sit for 2 days.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2289.jpg

While the shine looks pretty good! this is a can paint job! and does need to be chopped and buffed.

Defyant

Again 800 wet and dry is used for the chopping.

The idea is to get your clear coat flat! as you can see in this one small area after a quiky rub the clear is NOT FLAT!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2293.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2295.jpg

A bit more rubbing! now its flat.... its flat when its dull.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2298.jpg

A good long hand buff using some ultra fine compound and we have have some shine back.

A small update today! i'm still toying with the front blowhole/fan combo as this will be the main feature of the mod. the choice of spinner will be a combo LARGER then normal spinner and some plex modding :)

For the mod i'll be using the LARGE spinner on the left! instead of the smaller one to the right that i normally use for mods.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Tutorials/Turbine%20Fan%20Spinner/DSC02339.jpg

Next step is to pick a fan! i wanted to use a chrome fan... the only chome fan i had was a dead one :( so a bit of FAN surgery was needed.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2330.jpg

The motor in this fan had burnt out, rather than wait a few days to buy a new one i decided to swap the prop onto a new frame.
Pulling these things aprt is as simple as removing one plastic surclip on the back.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2332.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2333.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2336.jpg

The same is done to a cheeper black frame.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2337.jpg

The new silver prop is slotted onto the new plastic frame, clip is pressed back on, excess oil is wiped away and the rubber plug replaced with some tape to keep it in place.

With the minor surgery out of the way i can now get on with the mod :)

to add to another lighting feature to the turbine mod a clear sloped routed adaptor ring is made.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2362.jpg

The idea is this will not only become a light feature bit will be the adaptor for the larger cone.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2363.jpg

The ring is machined routed perfectly to suit the base of the cone.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2364.jpg

Using Weldon the Cone and Ring are centered and glued to the fan.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2365.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2366.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2368.jpg

Man, Defyant.... you continue to force me to drool on my keyboards... this is the 4th? 5th? keyboard I've had to replace because of your awe inspiring work!

I did a similar flame window mod on a rig once, and I feel your pain on the cutting of the flames... those things are *not* easy, especially on steel!

As usual, you have come up with creative solutions and crafting techniques to be well on your way to building yet another masterpiece of art and technology!

You always amaze me with your ability to "MacGuyver" a solution together that not only performs, but looks astounding!!!!

I would love to come and appretice with you to watch your work technique. I've already learned a few somethings on this post that will help me "finish up" on BOSS on the scoop! I really appreciate your taking the time to post up such detailed logs, taking the time to explain your steps. It makes eveyone better. I know I love reading your logs!

Good, good job bro. Another outstanding work already!!!

The holes are cut by hand and dremel, so the lines are not as streight as they could be.

A block and paper help to sand them back to near streight.

How else would you normally do that? Do you have a better tool? A jig?
And what do you recommend for metal windows. I'm set to use a jig & Dremel for mine. I bought a special dremel cutter, but haven't played with it yet. Something better? Thanks IA

DaveW, the rings i brought (cut to size) from my local plex shop in syd.
Thyr glued into place using Weldon Glue. ( i decided not to run the rings, leaving the blow hole open actually suited the mod better in the end)

Tech-Daddy, Cheers mate thank you very much mate :)

BOSS is still my favourite mod and makes for the most wicked Wall paper :)

gobygoby, ty :) i usually use use a compressor and 2pack paint for my mods.

This time i thought i'd give good old acrylic rattle spray cans a go!
The shine and paint tuffness is no where near that of 2pack but with some elbow grease as you will see the end result came up not to bad :)

MDCS, no jig for me soz mate, just hand/eye stuff. a better way (for perfect lines) would have been to just score them.

In the end i had a better idea!

A qik trip to my favourite place to pick up some pre-cut plex!

The plan was to buy some SILVER coloured plex....unfortunatly they don't stock a metalic silver... i had to improvise!!!

With the motherboard in place it was time to work on the new style motherboard cover.

To keep in theme with the mod ive decided to add some contrast flames! the choice was to you cut plex flames, a soft yet classy aqua blue plex was opted for.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2567.jpg

The edges are given a light sand

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2641.jpg

And then flame polished for a gloss shine.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2643.jpg

@ Hex head bolts will be used to attach the flames, the original thought was to glue these one! but i plan on making a second set in smoked and have 2 sets for interchangable or overlayed flames!

At this point i need to move onto the PSU cover!

Again the original thought was to powdercoat chrome or paint the psu! i didnt want to goto the extreme of making a plex psu as i had done with hp3 so i thought a matching cover would be the way to go!

As i will show later, i needed a specific psu for this mod,

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2476.jpg

the pic of psu's wasnt the best of the bunch but it was the configuration for this mod.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2479.jpg

The cover is basic in idea and design, so ive decided to add some fins!

i'd decided that the gold grill wouldnt work with all the silver in this mod, so some scrap hex mesh was added.

after a bit of muscle work! the NOS tank takes shape!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2600.jpg

In for some freeand wet rubbing

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2603.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2604.jpg

The wet rubbing is needed to hold the spray putty

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2610.jpg

As you can see in the above piccy some extra filling is needed

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2617.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2617.jpg

While the putty dries a quick colour paint test on some scrap!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2619.jpg

Next is to sand!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2627.jpg

Some more spray putty

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2723.jpg

and after another sand some blue metalic is applied

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2731.jpg

another final wetrub and four coats of clear is applied.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2790.jpg

that tape can now be removed to reveal the water level window :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/CUSTOM%20WATER%20TANKS/NoS%20Res/IMG_2791.jpg

Theres a bit of clean up work to be done , this will be completed when the paint is harder.

To cover the paint edges of the RES's Water level window some good old black pinstriping is layed and cut,

i also decidied to have a go @ my own NOS sticker! theres still plans to add some indicator lines on the water level window and a some smaller fine print around the top and sides and base :)

Want to try and find some here on my side of the pond! ;)

Cheers guys tyvm )
TD cheers mate :) , umm it could be called "high fill"? but it's basically just spray on putty! it won't fill deep holes, i use it to hold down edges and as a quick filler for sanding scratches.

All paints WILL sink back! give your work a few weeks and you will see your sand paper scratches in the paint! all the spray putty does is help fill these!!then you rub the excess off and it leaves you with filled edges etc,

It's always recomended to let any coats settle for a few days, spray putty.. if i have the time, i'll let it settle for a week then rub back.

It may just be called Highfill primer? primer filler.....

BOSS is still my fav mod atm mate :) and makes a great wallpaper :)

A change of colour!

Today was a day of paint! and a lot of it and a change of colour, i decided to go one shade darker on the silver , basically from a light to a medium range platinum silver.

I liked the orig colour vey much! it's just under some lights the case simply looked white! and white is the colour i want for HP-3!

Theres 8 panels in all that make a HP case, and ive thrown in a second front panel for the heck of it, all the panels were highfilled 800 wet a dry rubbed prepsoled, tackrag'd dust coated and given @ least 4 coats of acrylic platinum silver.

Unfortunatly i ran out of clear! so the top and far side and spare front penels are yet to be cleared.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2910.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2912.jpg

Ive given the front and base are given 4 very very wet coats of acylic clear over the new colour and have a pretty good shine even before buffing!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2926.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2893.jpg

the RAD is painted and cleared as well to colour match and blend in better.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2883.jpg

The fingys show the best part of 40+ coats of paint :P

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2887.jpg

All thats left to decide is weather to leave the side vents black! or paint them platinum silver to match ?

Off to the shop early this morn to PU some more Clear to finsih the last 3 panels.

The Can paint i'm using for this mod! is just a generic type can acrylic, being acrylic it will not dry shiny and will have to be chopped and buffed.

I still manage to get some shine becuase i put the paint on very thick and wet. Not somthing i'd recomend doing with heat lamps and a clean spray area.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_3046.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_3045.jpg

With the last of the painting out of the way for now , time to move onto some wire management!

Like all the HP's i want this one to also to look clean!

for wire cover matching silver tech flex is used, i cant buy this unfortunatly so i wil plastic prime and then paint my own.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2928.jpg

What you see is pretty much the basic wiring you will see in the case! bugger all :)

All that will be added will be IDE and Power later.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2973.jpg

Next was to install the motherboard cover, as you can see ive cheeted and added a few new extra's to it with out posting :) i thought adding active cooling would look "cooler" then the mesh grill and added a lil flame grill with a accent around the CPU tube hole.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2961.jpg

After a few new mounting holes are drilled to the floor and pump mounts i can actually move onto the plumbing (always my fav part)

I love a plumbing challange! and wanted to try and come up with a new design for the water tubes!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2976.jpg

The rad is a tight fit! and i usually fit them externally! but wanted the challenge of making everthing fit inside this mod :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2977.jpg

The Good old NOS res is mounted and installed.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2990.jpg

All hoses are tie clamped!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2998.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_2999.jpg

The pump was a tight fit! and i may swap it over for a MPC-350.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HPResurrection%204/IMG_3000.jpg

The funny thing is that you make it look so easy and when i do it, it's fairly simple to the point that anyone can do it. There's just something about you doing it to this extent, a certain finesse to it that really shows tallent. So remember everyone, you can do it to and it's not hard. We all can learn from Dfyant's worklogs and creativity. Cheers on HPR4.8)
