Couldn't find a forum idea thread but what about a forum lottery? Members who would like to play put a dollar in a paypal pot and an admin runs a name roller (I'm sure there are plenty of free apps that would work for this) and the member wins the lotto! 1 dollar a week for a chance to win 10-50 dollars? Sounds fun to me.

If we could get ALL the users to pitch a dollar, this could be HUUUUGE.

Right? http://www.random.org/lists/

3 seconds on google popped that up. Maybe it can even be streamed like a live event type of thing that goes on once a week. I bet we'd see a new TBCS record for members logged in at once!

ill go for it... just a buck a week for an entry sounds golden to me... but i think we should have a minumum limit, say... $35 in the pot before we run it.

I could see problems with members under 18 or the age of majority in the country they reside in.

I know you can't play the lottery until the age of 18 but wouldn't this be considered more of a raffle?

Still, I'm not sure if under 18 are allowed to raffle either

Sounds interesting. If we can get enough people on board I'm in.

Hell, we've got everything else, I wouldn't be surprised. ;)

I am going to have to veto this idea. In most states in the US it is illegal for a private citizen or business to hold a lottery. Its considered gambling and the fines are huge. Paul is from NY and thus TBCS is based in NY and I am sure NY has laws against this. Sorry guys.

How do companies hold raffles? I'm not arguing the matter boss, just curious now. :P

I am pretty sure that ALL US companies use a third party to conduct any drawings, just to keep the semblance of fairness.

Here is the blurb from California...

Sorry I hadn't gotten to this earlier, but CJ is right. This would definitely jeopardize our future as a website. While it sounds cool, we are not a gambling site, and doesn't even fit within the scope of our website.
