Hey everyone I have been lookin at some of the amazing work around here and it gave me the urge do make a case myself. I really don't know what direction I want to take it in. I know I want it to be miltary themed and it be semi portable LAN box. My first thought was to do an Ammo Box but that small of a case would requre me to use a micro-atx board or smaller and I really want to use a full sized ATX board. Mabye there is a large Ammo box out there. So I really don't know what i want to do. Any ideas?

Greetings! well, if you want larger ammo boxes check out http://www.armysurpluswarehouse.com/

on the left side of the page click on containers & ammo cans. there isn't a huge selection, but they have some of the larger sizes of ammo boxes. (a giant self contained computer (motherboard, screen, keyboard, etc.) built inside the rocket case would be pretty cool :D although not too portable)

there are some other sites out there that i can't think of off top of my head. give me a little bit and i can search though my bookmarks and see what i can find...

EDIT: here are a few more i just remembered: http://www.imsplus.com/ http://www.fatiguesarmynavy.com http://www.loadup.com/

all of them are very good sites as i've ordered lots of camping and Jeep equipment from them before.

also check out the link in my signature to "Gort". it's built inside a 25mm mortar case. depending on how asthetically pleasing you want to go, you can probably fit a full size ATX board inside that ammo box. those things are stronger than heck too; i ran that one over with my Jeep before while trying to tow another vehicle out and didn't put a scratch on the thing (the computer wasn't inside it at the time :D)

good luck with the project, looking forward to see what you can come up with! :)

in my opinion, you may want to go with something else other than an ammo box. think about it. ammo boxes are fixed shapes and sizes, and are fairly boring.

i would suggest doing something like one of those robust military laptops. the ones that look like a heavy duty olive green briefcase. that way you could probably fit an ATX board, plus you can have an lcd screen that folds out in one half. you could just have some rubber plugs for the various ports that wouldnt be in use, and that would probably serve well.

so if you can imagine something along the lines of the control station for a small remote control surveillance aircraft, that would be what im talking about.

all i would really recommend is staying away from the ammo box idea. its just a box and nothing more. there has to be other interesting things out there. take my suggestion or leave it, and maybe take a look for some pictures of nifty military gadgets that you might be able to recreate.

Ya thanks for the idea but i really don't want to build the case from scratch. At least with the Ammo box you at least have something. And this (http://www.galleria-e.com/cgi-bin/Colemans.storefront/en/product/220301) is definatly more then a box. Just look what this guy did,http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/album299?page=1. I plan on doing a simular thing. I just trying to figure out if I can put full size ATX, full size PSU, and a 1900XT, hardrive, and cd burner.Along with everything else. And if I put a window in I have to keep the wires clean. Omgexplosion.

as far as getting all of that in there, it's possible but will be a bit tricky. i suggest using a laptop dvd drive because they're about 1/10th the size of a regular drive. maybe also use a laptop harddrive because they're smaller as well. there are a few 7200RPM laptop harddrives out there so you can still have the speed of a regular harddrive.

all you have to be is clever and you can make it work. 8)

its been done many times, but i think the best one is still by zapwizard. the link to his machine is here (http://www.austinmodders.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24).

i did the ammo theme to my xbox (http://www.austinmodders.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=962).
