Well you'll have a few problems
1) the floppy button is the mechanical release of the drive itself. It requires more force to activate and cen't be relocated like an electrical switch.
2) the door on the floppy slot folds down into the machine unlike a CD tray door that pops out. So you don't have anything to attach a fake front onto.

easiest thing to do might be to recess the FDD a bit and mount a hinged door over the drive bay in front of it. Rockler sells "safe push touch latch" might work nice for that.

floppy drives for mac eject electronicly. i wonder if there is a way to port that tech over to pc. anyone know what kind of connector is on the back of a mac floppy? is it like a usuall pc floppy cable or a mac scsi wieirdo cable

Here's an idea...use an external floppy drive that connects via USB and when you don't need it-unplug and put in a drawer. Now that's stealth:D

Hahahaha :D good deal...well why not try...if you are really crafty :D...to build a reallyreally small mechanical spring loaded flip bay over...directly over, where the floppy port is...like on the super old monitors right. ou know, that stupid looking stealth bay where all the controls lay underneath. right well try something like that igf you kould GL

This is probably the best option out there. There is very little point in having a floppy drive in your case full-time any more.

a floppy drive these days is just for making one of two statements;

"I have an old computer"

or

"I have a floppy drive."

...or "I have a class or a job that still uses these disks" or "I'm worried about not being able to format without a boot disk". THere are legitimate uses for the disks any more, but I don't trust the things. I worked in a retail print shop for many years, and I would say a third of them came in with corrupted data.

You could always get an LS120 Floppy drive, there brill disks, less curruption, and they have electronic swictches, the only thing you need do now is sort something for the cover, or just not stelth the floppy door
