In the lab today is Prolimatech's new socket 1156/1366 air cooler dubbed "Armageddon." Its competition is Intel's stock cooler and Cogage's Arrow cooler. The Armageddon cooler features a unique design on the top of fin stack, which would feel at home in any modded computer case. But that isn't today's question. Today's question is how does it perform? Read on (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/frontpage/?q=node/484) to find out.

Nice review. There seems to be no shortage of large effective coolers on the market these days. Looked at the first pics and thought, yup it's big. Then saw the shots with the Dr. P can  It's friggin huge.

It's actually not that big. I have seen much bigger coolers that perform wayyy below this coolers performance.

Checkout the Scythe Ninja Rev B that I had in my build, Karma. You could strap 4 - 120mm fans on it. :D

When I first looked at this heatsink I liked the way the heatpipes are spread in a line to distribute the heat through the fins very well, but still doubt it's a worthy upgrade over my lapped true, the temps I get on it are excellent.

:D Good stuff, been holding out for a real beast of a heatsink that offers significant performance over my lapped true, I want a near double sized version of the thermalright true to fill the extra space in my case :D, if I had the means to make my own I cirtainly would :D, who knows maybe I could with good planning & a heatpipe supplier, would be so cool to out do thermalright diy style lol :D.

Well Prolimatech's Megahelms bested the TRUE's by like 5c in some test I have seen and this cooler best the Megahelms by a few c so I think it just might.

The large cooler we have coming up is one of the largest made.

And this cooler has beaten every air cooler to ever come through my test bench. Not to mention it did it almost silently.

:D I'm probably just a bit gutted that I painted my case fans & this uses 140mm :P, I didn't catch it in the review, can it take 120mm fans? or would it hinder performance, I'm guessing it would, still, I'll hold on a little longer, can't wait to see this BIG cooler first :D.

A copper TRUE would look real sweet in my case though :), but would probably offer same temps as what I currently get & it's pretty expensive.

I am happy to report that we took delivery of the BIG cooler today and it is by far the largest thing we have ever seen to sit on top of a CPU

Yeah.
No it's 140Mm only

In this month's (November 2010) Maximum PC, the Armageddon is reviewed. They say it "shatters [their] lab records"

Check it out. pg. 87!
