This is a neat little desktop customization program that helped me convince some of my friends that i was actually in the beta testing program for windows 8... lol... its called Rainmeter, and can be found here (http://rainmeter.net/RainCMS/)
heres a pic of how it transformed my desktop:

I have a network meter, hdd meter, itunes/WMP monitor, and a calendar that is linked to my gmail calendar and can give me alarms... Love it, but havnt gotten to play with it much yet. Skins can be found all over online, including at deviant art. oooh, and the big dial in the middle is a combo cpumeter, network, hdd, clock gadget... i think its neato

For ideas and really cool desktops done with rainmeter check out lifehacker: http://lifehacker.com/tag/rainmeter/
Most of their featured desktops use the program.

I just messed around with Rainmeter for a bit. Does anyone know how to lock everything in place? Whenever I exit and load it back up, everything is in a huge pile in the one corner on my main monitor. I haven't seen anything saying how to do this yet.

2 things i would do, 1 if its not something you will click on then right click skin menu, and "click through" also, save it as a theme in the rainmeter menu when everything is in place

Ugh, whenever I exit a fullscreen app it does the same stupid crap. This program isn't very useful to me if it constantly dumps all of the widgets into a pile.

Well I've tried out this program. It's great, if I am motivated to do so I may make a tutorial on setting it up, using it, and modifying skins when I install it up on my laptop.

@xRyokenx and anyone else having issues with skins staying put. I found to lock down skins: right click on a skin > Skin Menu > deselect "Draggable". This at least works for me, it does have to be done individually for each skin you are using. It is also a good idea to save themes in case something gets screwed up.

Two great resources for skins I found are customize.org (http://customize.org/rainmeter) and deviantArt (http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/skins/sysmonitor/rainmeter/?order=9)

For you guys having trouble with your skins staying in position, it sounds like you have a problem with your installation. Your Rainmeter.ini is either not in the correct place or something is blocking Rainmeter from writing to it. Please stop by here (http://www.rainmeter.net/RainCMS/?q=Rainmeter101) for some info on the proper locations of files. If you still have trouble stop by the Forums (http://rainmeter.net/forum/) for assistance.

Haha, I did read the Rainmeter 101 but apparently didn't do so thoroughly enough. Thanks!
